Dancing With the Stars - Fall 2023

Sadly, the negotiations with SAG have broken down and SAG has stepped away from the bargaining table. SAG said the producers & studios are offering even less now than before the negotiations. :headache: >:(

(bolding mine.)

"It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter our latest offer. We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.

These companies refuse to protect performers from being replaced by AI, they refuse to increase your wages to keep up with inflation, and they refuse to share a tiny portion of the immense revenue YOUR work generates for them. We have made big, meaningful counters on our end, including completely transforming our revenue share proposal, which would cost the companies less than 57¢ per subscriber each year. They have rejected our proposals and refused to counter.

Instead they use bully tactics. Just tonight, they intentionally misrepresented to the press the cost of the above proposal –overstating it by 60%. They have done the same with A.I., claiming to protect performer consent, but continuing to demand “consent” on the first day of employment for use of a performer’s digital replica for an entire cinematic universe (or any franchise project).

The companies are using the same failed strategy they tried to inflict on the WGA – putting out misleading information in an attempt to fool our members into abandoning our solidarity and putting pressure on our negotiators. But, just like the writers our members are smarter than that and will not be fooled.

We feel the pain these companies have inflicted on our members, ourstrike captains, IATSE, Teamsters and Basic Crafts union members, and everyone in this industry. We have sacrificed too much to capitulate to their stonewalling and greed. We stand united and ready to negotiate today, tomorrow, and every day.

Our resolve is unwavering."

I *think* Disney Week and the SAG letter above are part of the reasons Matt Walsh walked away from -err, was voted off the show the first week.

Disney is actually one of the major studios SAG is striking against.

Last week Julianne mentioned Brady and Marvel. This week, Barry mentioned being on The Brady Bunch, even though SAG members aren't allowed to mention old or current work, nor promote one of the studios' works SAG is striking.

I had even wondered if DWTS was going to cancel Disney Week? Yet, next week is Disney Week. While Disney, of course, can advertise and promote the heck out of it's own projects, the SAG performers are not supposed to promote SAG movie & TV projects. I think the animated movies had SAG voice-over actors do the voices. There were 12 SAG performers on DWTS, 9 now that Matt, Jamie Lynn and Tyson are gone.

This show must put the existing SAG performers in a bind as SAG had allowed them to do the show, as the show itself falls in a "reality competition show" category that is allowed. Yet, it seems that each week, Disney/DWTS has become bolder in having their SAG performers flaunt the SAG striking rules by mentioning what they've been in.

Matt Walsh is in both the WGA writers and SAG actors unions. Even after the writers strike was settled, the DWTS producers must have asked him what about Disney Week? He had already dropped out before the first show and came back for the premiere. But, being a loyal SAG member, I think he just said, this is a hard no. He will not be a SCAB.

Bummed that I missed another DWTS night but so happy the child abuser is gone! I’ll watch the show tomorrow and catch up.

Watched it this morning. Not being able to see Jason’s feet made his dance seem less impressive to me?

I loved Adrianna but then I love the song Into the unknown.

Xochitl is adorable.

I’m hoping for those three to be in the finale but you can never be sure with Bachelor Nation voting. 😜😜. Or with ABC pushing for the franchise

I refused to watch Peterson's dance. I love that song and I didn't want it spoiled by him. I cheered when the sent him packing. I was surprised that Ariana's score wasn't higher. Frankly, I expected her to pull a 10 for that dance.

That was fun that Ariana was a former friend of disney princesses

I've thought it for a long time now but the judges always seem to be anti-emma
I think she’s going to go deep into the show with Mauricio. He has charisma and a fan following. Plus, he seems to be a hard worker who is improving every week.

Just now watching, but I just love Julianne and Alfonso's dances every episode! They are really turning the show around for me after missing Tom so much!

I finally got to see the show all the way through.

Just now watching, but I just love Julianne and Alfonso's dances every episode! They are really turning the show around for me after missing Tom so much!

Yes, it's great seeing Julianne & Alfonso dancing in the opening number. THIS is what the show is about, and what they bring the show back to, not some top model doing a cat walk at the beginning of the show and wearing a bunch of weird, ill-fitting costumes each week.

It would be nice if they each did a whole, individual dance, the way Derek does one every once in a while.

Onto the show:

I wish the producers would send Carrie Ann to rehab or Narc-Anon or something. When she gets high, she just babbles on and on and on and on. :badpc: Last season, she accidentally revealed how the producers had it planned that a star was going all the way to the end. This week, she went on and on about a lift that Lele & Brandon did, so that Derek was only left ONE second, and then he didn't even bother to say anything. >:( Carrie Ann, shut your trap! We really aren't interested in you.

I like Jason. He's really growing each week, along with Mauricio, although, him not as much.

I think Alyson should go next week. Then Mira, and after that, Barry.

TMZ has photos of Mauricio and Emma holding hands after a romantic dinner. Apparently they were kissing during dinner as well.

I don’t like him. He seems so slimy. She has been coming across as a social climber lately so this coupling makes sense. Poor Sasha.
