Last night I was watching an episode of Intervention. :happytv: The young man going through the intervention had a very thick accent. It was so strong the show actually was using subtitles every time he spoke. He kept saying "dadgum"!! :confused3

I am here in Beantown and yes, I know we have a very interesting accent as well.... :rolleyes1 ...but what STATE would he be from saying "dadgum"????

We say it a lot down here in the South. :) (At least, I've heard it said all my life)

You're liable to hear that anywhere south of the Mason-Dixon line. I'm in NC and it's part of the vernacular.

It's like a swear word when you don't want to use a swear word!!!:lmao:

I should had ADDED to my post....WHAT DOES IT MEAN???

My impression was that it was intended as something to avoid saying "*******"

Hah... didn't think that'd actually get filtered out. Oh well... as a replacement for a curse relating to the almighty ;)

It's an adjective that is typically delivered with a scowl and a spit :rotfl:
"I ran over a dadgum nail and now I have a flat tire"

-OR-

It's an expletive expressing disappointment
[after Driver X blows engine in NASCAR race] "Dadgum!"

Yes, now when thinking of the show, he was pretty mad and fired up when he would use dadgum. I would have not had a CLUE as to what he was saying or even how to spell dadgum if not for the subtitles. I asked my DH where the young man was from and he had no clue either.

Thanks!!!

I'm in Texas and use it frequently. I wasn't aware that it was not a common slang word. I thought everybody said it!

It's a word I use on a regular basis! Keeps me out of the hard-core swear words. Usually.

Dagnabbit CLYDE!! :lmao:

I've heard more dagnabbits than dadgums up here. :p

In some old (18xx) books I've read, it is spelled 'dadgom'; somewhere I've heard that it came about as a rearrangement of the letters in GD.
