D-Day Invasion- "Strange"-ly Imminent!! TRIP REPORT IS UP!!

Maroo and other weather watchers,
We officially have TS Danielle!!!!

Off to obsess and check the weather channel every day twice a day.:rotfl2:

Today was a full day- like every other day has been since we arrived on Terra Firma. It was lovely worshipping with my family, parents, sister and family, cousins, etc.... today at church. Singing songs in English was such a treat!

But even more lovely was getting Andrew settled into his new digs. You can call his man-cave "Bean Counter Meets Soldier Geek". So, what do you get when you pair up an accounting major with a mechanical eng. major??

Frightening on all accounts.

A long time ago some of us were joking about making our student's beds when they moved in; as if it's a mother's entitlement. He did allow me to throw on his sheets, but refused to let us help with the "personal stuff". I get that. I'm just happy that we were invited in at all with the way things had been going up til now.

Now, we aren't allowed to see him at all until Thursday as per his orientation program rules. Which is fine, because tomorrow we all (17 of us) leave for the lake for our houseboat vacay. Tow ropes, tubes, enough food to feed about 3 Platoons, and fishing poles are all packed up and ready to go!! We are excited!!!!

I won't have ANY internet or computer time there at all, so ya'll will have to keep up the good work of enjoying each other's company here. Feel free to keep that banter going!! I'll be back on Thursday to share some sneak preview tidbits of our time. I hear there are some storms a'brewin'!

Until then...

We have a swirlie! And this morning the models have it going too close to FL for my taste! Let's pray for it to be a fish storm!

Y'all are cracking me up with your weather obsession, I would never do something like that. :rolleyes1

When you said "we have a swirlie!" I was thinking about toilets! :rotfl2: I was watching it develop today, too!

I'm glad your boy is all settled into his man cave - sounds like Big Bang Theory if anyone has seen it - Cool Geekness! :cool1:
Have a wonderful time at the lake, Liesa - and make everyone stay away from the propellar, even when the boat is turned off! (tragic story)

Have fun Liesa! I've been on two houseboat trips and loved both of them! Very cool find in the attic by the way. My husband's grandfather worked on movie sets in the 60s and they love all the memorabilia he left with them. It's such a treasure to have such an intimate piece of their lives, as opposed to cold hard facts. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Liesa, hope you have a wonderful time at the lake. Just make sure everyone is careful with the tubing, and someone is always watching the person being towed so the boat can be stopped quickly if needed, and isn't started until everyone is ready to go!!!

Hey, Liesa!

Sounds like you're ready for a great getaway... have a fabulous time!

Kathy

HI Kathy!! We ARE ready, and super excited.

I see you have a new thread up- need to investigate that scuttlebutt a bit more!! Is the trip for you and Ed off? Replaced with a mom's trip?? Hmmm.....

The vacation on the water sounds LOVELY! Enjoy every second. :goodvibes

:scared1: Keep us posted!

BROOK!! I have a new phone number that I need to get out to folks! If only I could find that paper this second... coming soon...

Yes, indeed we should all be watching that spinning cloud of vacation death. Reminds me I need to go get my ponchos! :scared1:

Y'all are cracking me up with your weather obsession, I would never do something like that. :rolleyes1

They've been good, but OH SO BUSY!! Between school stuff, shopping for NEW SHOES!!! (Hopefully a picture of those coming soon- I went with Borns that we half off at Dillards), visiting with cousins, and re-packing EVERYTHING, it's been far less posting than I had hoped.

When you said "we have a swirlie!" I was thinking about toilets! :rotfl2: I was watching it develop today, too!

:rotfl2: That's what I think of too.

I'll have to watch that one; sounds funny.

Thanks for the reminder- my dad who was an ER doc early in his career also saw some horrific boating accident injuries. We all have lifevests, but yes, the propeller and misjudged shorelines and docks are also a very real danger!

I've never been on a houseboat; I hope I return sane after having been cooped up with 17 very noisy people for 3 1/2 days. My family is NOT the most quiet one that's ever existed. It will be a bit difficult for our own little family who really does enjoy a bit of quiet.

I also inherited 3 quilts- one of which was made by my great, great, great aunt!!!! (yes, 3 greats!) For a quilter, that's quite a score! I, like you say, LOVE that connection from the past to put the stories with the names.

Liesa, hope you have a wonderful time at the lake. Just make sure everyone is careful with the tubing, and someone is always watching the person being towed so the boat can be stopped quickly if needed, and isn't started until everyone is ready to go!!!

HI Marv!!! We will indeed have a designated floatie watcher. With a flag. Kids, by nature, are NOT so careful, but luckily my BIL and myself are pretty anal about safety. Except the time last week when he took the boat out to make a practice run and forgot to put the stopcock in and almost sunk the thing. What a doofus. :sad2:

Hope you have (are having) a fantastic time on your boating vacation! :goodvibes

On a downer note...I will not be coming to the DC meet. :guilty: Something (good) has come up with the kids, and I just don't have the funds to do both. I'm sorry, and I hope you all have a really great time. Take lots of pics, please!!!

Not trying to overly worry you, but the reason I posted that is because we had a tragedy on the lake near us this past week when someone got the rope for their tube accidentally entangled around their arm and neck.:sad1:

Now that's funny right there:lmao:

........and never been done before..... :rolleyes1

Hey Liesa! Sorry no time to catch up on all the banter. Glad to see you are enjoying your time back on the homeland. I can't wait to meet you (and everyone else) in a week's time!!! Do you have pictures from Germany to share???

I know it!

You know...the "real" obsessers..... well, we are over on www.wunderground.com...

In fact...some parts of the year I am on there more than the DIS. :rolleyes1

Oh no!!!!!!! That is horrible! I am sure she will be really upset not to be able to meet you!

Weather Update!

As promised, I will try to keep you guys updated on the weather forecast! We have not quite gotten close enough to give you a 10 day outlook yet - but that should be coming! My guess is that highs will be in the lower 90's with a chance of showers every single day. :rolleyes1

Tropical Storm Danielle:
There is a swirlie out there that we are watching! Right now it has winds of 60 mph. I think it may be named a Hurricane today, but so far the models have it finally looking like it will be a FISH storm! (I love those!)

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina forming as a tropical depression and in about a week our coast was gone - there is a lot of talk about it around here - it was a crazy time for all of us.

Another BIG Update!

Our Park Hours have CHANGED. I am going to look in a bit and see what will change with our schedule - but I got several emails over the weekend from Tour Guide Mike and it looks like our plans may shift a bit! And Liesa is out on a boat.

Anyway...more on that in a bit...

ETA: I checked the "new" hours and the only real changes to OUR schedule was an additional Fantasmic on our first day, Sept 2nd.

So...Liesa - you could go to the 10:00 show of F! But if you decide to stick with the 8:30 show (which may have changed to 8:30 from 8:00??), then at least it should be less crowded with some of the crowds going to the 10:00 show.

They also added some hours to the MK on two days, but we are not at the MK on those days - so it won't affect us.

So we are good to go! No more changes! :)

Wow Mary, you can really go way out there on that limb with your forecasts, can't you!! :rotfl:

Liesa and I talked yesterday and she was a little worried about our forecast because it called for thunderstorms every day...I remember having those same thoughts last year and assured her it won't rain on us too much...

Unless something tropical comes. popcorn::
