Cruising- Picture Package

For those who have cruised-

1) Do we book before the cruise for the photo package to get our discount or do we have to wait until we are on the boat?

2) Why are there different days and times that we have to pick for the pictures? I'm confused. Does it matter which day is picked?

I have never booked the package before. I only booked a small package once onboard.

From what I have read online it does not matter what day you book for the big package....it will be good for the entire cruise.
