You have all been such a great help in the past, that I thought I would throw this challenge your way. DH's grandmother has given us a nice check to use to purchase gifts for our three kids for Christmas, Birthday and Easter. DH and I would like to do something for each kid that would not be something that they would normally get. For DD12 (a shark freak) we are going to book the Swim with the Sharks experience at Sea World during our WDW trip next summer. DS3 will probably get a Power Wheels. So that leaves DD9 almost 10. We have no idea what to do for her. Does anyone have any unusual ideas for something we could do for her? She is a pretty mature kid for her age and her interests are reading, gymnastics, and frogs. I was thinking of some experience for her while we are at WDW, but I am having no luck coming up with anything. :confused3

Instead of the "individual" gifts why not do a day at Discovery Cove? My son LOVED that day. He still talks about it and we went about 5 years ago.

That's a good idea. I think, though, that my chicken 3 year old would be scared, and my 9 year old would be bored. She is definitely a Disneyphile (don't know where she got that from). Hmmmmm maybe we just won't tell them about the money and I'll go to Discovery Cove.... :-)

Just another piece of info on DD9. She went through over 4 horrible years of hospitalizations and uncertainty until emergency surgery discovered she had an intestinal problem and she had some of her small intestine removed. Now, a year later, she is going to Shriners Hospital to deal with a leg length discrepency and scoliosis. The kid has been through heck and has been a trooper. She never asks for anything. She works her tail off at school and on the gymnastics team and truly shines. We would really love to surprise her. An over-the-top Disney surprise would be the best. Any ideas on something like that?

how about a summer camp of some kind?

She already goes to gymnastics camp. I thought about another one, but can't seem to find one that she would love. Needless to say, she is not an easy one to please. :rotfl2:

you could do one of the fireworks cruises at WDW.

Is she into Princess stuff?
There is the Princess tea at the Grand Floridian
Or Bippity Boppity Boutique?

Both very very special.
And at the Grand Floridian as well as other hotels there is a Pirates cruise that my son and daughter both enjoyed.

That's a good idea. I might have to check that out. It would be all the better if it was just DD, DH, and I. Just a night out with mom and dad. :thumbsup2

Not really a princess, though she thinks Jasmine is great. I think it is because she looks like her. :thumbsup2

If she was old enough, I would say Keys to the Kingdom would be more her speed. She is a 29 year old in a 9 year old body.

Since she is into gymnastics, how about a sitter for the other little ones, and a special evening of La Nouba Cirque du Soleil and a special meal while in DTD. They have some very unique souveniers (books, music, etc) and you could purchase something for her to remember the experience and or expand on it.

Tink, great minds must thing alike. ;) I went to run some errands and all of a sudden Cirque popped into my head. Adding dinner is a great idea. Or, she would probably like going to the Ghiradelli shop instead. :rotfl: She is soooooooo like me!

My daughter is a dancer (very close relative to gymnastics) and this would be so cool for her. I know she would enjoy it. I was in the gift shop in September and there are some very unique gifts. If you decide to do this, please let me know how it is. Diane
