My great grandma painted everything this certain shade of green. The porch, the porch swing, even the little stool in the bathroom generations of kids used to reach the sink.

Anyway, after she passed my great aunt by marriage got rid of all her things without asking anybody on our side of the family if we wanted them. She wasn't trying to be horrible she just isn't sentimental and since all the things she tossed weren't "valuable" in her opinion (who wants a potty stool? Uhm, ME!!!!) we all just let it slide.

So now I'm trying to recreate "grandma ticktock" green. I think it was just the porch green everyone painted outside things with back in the 40s and 50s. Does anyone have a clue what I'm talking about and can you point me in the right direction for this particular shade of green? Nothing at Lowes or Home Depot looks exactly right to me.

I think I know what you mean. Was it that hunter-green color that they used to use to paint shutters and Adirondack chairs? There's a place in Sandwich, MA called Green Briar Jam Kitchen and all of the outdoor furniture in the wildflower garden is painted that forest/hunter green. It seems recently painted, but I don't no what they used.:sad2:

If it's not that green, is it the bluish green that was popular in the 40's? Like this? http://bayarea.kijiji.com/c-For-sale-Furniture-decor-Antique-Dresser-with-Mirror-W0QQAdIdZ83744800 Martha Stewart used to make a color like that was sold at Sears (but no more).

I'm very sentimental too. I hope you find what you're looking for.

It's not hunter green more like the green in your link. So no more Martha paint? Thanks.

keep in mind that grandma's shade of green could have been a bit off the norm of standard shades due to fading (if she had it on items for years). you might be able to go to one of the paint places that do color match and see if they can help you get a shade that would be close to what you're looking for (and if i recall correctly there was kind of a milky shade of mint that was pretty popular back then).

That's the color my grandparents had on their living rooms walls, for as long as I can remember. It actually got to a point where I no longer liked the color, but it always reminds me of their house.:lovestruc

This blogger found some oops paint at a hardware store...

If you can find a picture, a good paint place can match the color for you.

Good luck
agnes!

Is it in the mint green family?

Your memory of the shade be different than the actual color of that green. Try googling retro colors and see if you can unearth something. Perhaps go to ebay and check for old plates. I I remember correctly, there were some retro patterns with a mint-type shade of green during that era.

I cannot stand the sight of metallic gold spray paint. :faint: My stepfather (a Hispanic) has a downright OBSESSION with anything made of gold or anything that LOOKS like gold. So he used metallic gold spraypaint on EVERYTHING growing up. For a good number of years, my sister and I had a chest of drawers that would have been fine to strip down and refinish. But instead, he coated the entire thing in several layers of this ugly gold spraypaint. I can't even stand to look at it now. It's hideous.

try this site:
Behr link use the start color smart tool. Browse colors. Pick the green family.

There were a lot of greens that were popular in the 1930's and 40's. Usually cool mints were interior. While exteriors were a little bolder: raindrop, jade, Chinese-all popular greens.

Try a look up "art deco", also. :thumbsup2
