Crafts, spreadsheets and pixie dust... oh my! A PTR for May 2014

Me neither! I am thinking a red shirt? Not sure.

So glad! Seeing how excited it made him, I am really thinking about calling the company that makes his patches and seeing if they could look into doing a Disney line.

I think it would look great on a red shirt! That'll really make Lightning McQueen pop. And you totally should. If Disney will license to bandaids, I'm sure they would license for eye patches!

That is exactly what I was thinking! I just wrote them an email. We will see what they say. I told them I would be willing to pay a premium for Disney patches! (if it gets Goose excited to wear them, why not!)

Sooo... I contacted the patch company. They responded quickly which surprised me. They basically said that they get this request all the time but the patches are made in Italy so they don't really have a say on the design. They also said the manufacturer wouldn't do a design that "has the possibility of only selling in one country"?!? :confused3 Call me crazy but last time I checked Disney had international appeal

It was really nice of them to get back to me, but since I have a hard time putting something to rest once it is in my mind, my next stop was Band-Aid. I wrote them a letter saying I love their product, my son never minds wearing a Band-Aide because it has the characters he loves on it, and it doesn't irritate his skin. I then asked if they would consider making eye-patches. It can't be that different right? Who knows if I will hear back, but at the very least it would be nice to have choices. I know there isn't a huge amount of people that patch, but those of us who do go through a ton of boxes, and most kids with aphakia patch for 9 years at least! That is a lot of patches!

Completely :offtopic: but my fellow Disney lovers and moms can understand my random Disney patch crusade (which really only consisted of writing two letters)

In other news 8 days until the little guy turns 3! And 10 days until we can book our flights! Hooray! pixiedust: :cool1:

Good luck! I hope Band-Aid comes through for you. That would be so awesome!

I think it would be fantastic if bandaid would start a line of eyepatches. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for them. Maybe all they needed was for you to write them that letter.

Aww, if you don't post an update before then I wanted to say Happy Birthday to your little guy!

i think it'd be awesome if someone made character eye patches!! i cant imagine they'd have any trouble selling them! and i agree--Disney is not limited to just one country......whatever!

you have so many exciting things coming up! plane tickets and birthday plans! fun! what are you doing for his big day?

btw--i ended up finding a bunch of Disney Halloween stuff at walgreens and am totally decorating our car with mickey for the trunk or treat! i even found some mickey ears with a little witches hat! and, the school is having an auction to raise money, and asked all the families to donate 2 items to auction off. so, i decided to do a Disney family fun night basket and got a TON of stuff today for it. thanks for getting the ideas flowing! i'll have to take pictures to show you! (and i'm going to make a quilt as our other auction item--but with the school's colors, have to do something not Disney related, right? :lauging:)

October is a crazy month for us! We are going to the airshow for his birthday! :cool1: He loves airplanes so I am thinking this will be a big hit! Then we fly to Houston the next day (partially for Dr. appointments) and will celebrate with more family there. Lots of fun lined up!

Happy Monday all! :surfweb:

We are exactly one month from booking ADRs!!!! There was a lot of Disney talk this weekend. I can tell DH is getting excited! :cheer2:

I am also starting to plan our countdown activities. Sometimes my planning gets a little away from me, so the actual activities may be scaled down, but for now I am trying to add a couple of components to the family nights.

I happen to be reading Parenting with Grace right now. I don't agree with everything in the book, but there are some great suggestions. One of the suggestions I like is a regular family meeting, and a family mission statement. The family mission statement articulates the values you find important as a family. I think the first countdown family night would be a great time to start this, because it will give us something fun to do after the more boring family meeting stuff. Goose will be a little young to help us form a mission statement, so it is something we will re-address throughout the years.

I also want to focus on a movie related skill/value during the day of each family night. Make it an all day extravaganza where I can get some teaching/preaching in :teacher:. Of course with a preschooler these things don't always go as planned.:rotfl:

That said, I am trying to build out my spreadsheet to reflect these changes. Some movies are easier than others.

Here is what I have so far.

Suggestions needed!!!!!! I haven't poured through the family theme night thread yet, I am sure there are some great suggestions there too. It is a work in progress.

That is all for now! Time to get going on my day! :laundy:

Hey! I started reading your PTR a few weeks ago - and I just now realized I never responded...

I loved reading about your family - your ds is adorable!

Your planning spreadsheets are awesome! I used to plan like that - but I kind of became relaxed about it while planning our last trip. LOL

I love the graphic that was designed for you! I love to dabble in graphics, but I must admit - I haven't had much time for it recently.

Excellent idea about contacting Band-aid about the patches - that would be so awesome if it was something they would do - and with the characters on it - BRILLIANT!

Anyways... Looking forward to following along - sorry it took me so long to get here. :)

D~

I love your spreadsheet :lovestruc I don't have any ideas for you for what to add, but I am sure that you will come up with something.

It would be so great if BandAid came through for you, fingers crossed! And I also fail to see how Disney doesn't have international appeal...

You are one crazy planner! :rotfl: if I think of any suggestions, I'll let you know. I'm sure you know about it, but I've seen some cute ideas on disneys family fun website. I haven't printed or done anything from it, but they have lots of cute activities and ideas for stuff.

I saw on your countdown that on day 70 you have personalize magic bands. Where did you see that? I've been sort of avoiding all things magic band so I'm pretty clueless about them. but, since we are 90 days out, I should probably start getting informed!

Thanks for reading!! I kind feel honored :)

I think planning is probably more important with little ones, and being a Disney newbie. I am kind of thinking (hoping?) I will ease up a bit on the planning as the years go on, but I sure do enjoy it.

I hope Band-Aid does come through. That would be awesome. I never heard anything though. :confused3

Why thank you! I will try to repost the thing as I get more ideas.

Glad I am not the only one who thinks that was a weird statement.

I really am a crazy planner :) I will have to check out that website! Thanks for the tip!

Honestly I don't remember where I read that. I think I may have read that they are planning on allowing you to personalize your bands but it has to be more than 60 days in advance, and not knowing how far in advance it needs to be put it in the 70 mark as a place holder and reminder to look into it then. It is kind of hard knowing what all we will need to do with that since it isn't rolled out yet and there seems to be some mixed information out there.

This:

Is the best (read "least confusing") article I have seen on the subject. I hope it helps!

You can personalize the bands by adding a name on the inside of it. Many are doing nicknames guess.

It is at 60 days if you are part of the test phase, but by end of the year all resorts are part of this so you will be.

We are almost at 60 days so I will let you know what happens with us and Magic bands??

The link you posted said you have until 1 month before your trip. :confused3 This is all so confusing... I think I put less effort into my son's arrival than I am for our upcoming trip.

I love love love the countdown spreadsheet. What a wonderful idea to use your Disney movie night to teach different values. :goodvibes

Thanks for the magicband link. I love her website but haven't been there for awhile. She mentioned that November trips were just getting to personalize their bands now so I guess I'm safe for a January trip still--haven't missed anything yet. And on her video she showed making her FP+ reservations and it seems a lot better than i was thinking it would be. Hopefully by the end of the month January will be ready so it'll be one less thing I have to stress out about!

Hello all,

and to fill the void that has left, decided to start this PTR. It is my first PTR so be nice. I love doing crafts, collecting strange data, and making spreadsheets, so you can expect to find all these wonderful things pop up on this report over the next 11 months. I am also still very much a Disney newbie so I would love suggestions and input.

You are a woman after my own heart. :rotfl:

I can't wait to see more of your crafts! I may steal a few. =D

Good to know! I need to adjust that! Please do let us know! I am anxious to see it all in action!

:rotfl2: I can definitely see that happening!

Why thank you! I start out with grand ideals, we will see how smoothly things go come January 8th :)

So glad it helped! I haven't watched the video yet, I guess I should do that! :firefight (I have always wanted to use that firefighter guy, and I can't think of a situation it will come up naturally so...:firefight:firefight)

Why thank you! I have some crafting plans swirling around in my head :)

They will probably begin once the countdown starts!

A little editing note:

It is probably a bit late for this, but I decided to use aliases for the little guy and my husband. I edited the previous posts, and from here on out I will refer to DS as "Goose" (that is kind of his nickname at home) and DH as "Mr. Incredible", because lets face it he is pretty incredible :)

Honestly, I'm surprised there aren't eye patches with characters on them already. When I worked at a childcare center, we had several children (more than one might imagine) with eye patches, so I always assumed it wasn't rare enough not to warrent some kind of design. :confused3 I hope you find success with Bandaid.

The family theme night thread is a great place to look for ideas. You can get lost in there for hours, pouring over all the ideas. :rotfl:
