Cozumel, Mexico

We went in "03" so it's been awhile, we are talking about going back in "08". My DD did the Dolphin swim at Chankanaab Park she loved it.

Try this web site cozumelmycozumel.com it has very good info on the island.

For restautants I would go to La Choza it's on Avenida 10 close to downtown San Miguel, also Especias it's on Calle 3 also downtown San Miguel.

When we go we rent a villa in the downtown area so we can walk to all these places.

I also second going to Coconuts.. Beautiful view! I'd do a swim with the dolphins.. We did this a few years ago and had a blast.. also fury catamarans for snorkeling.. Mr Sanchos and Paradise Beach are nice also..

Is coconuts the restaurant thats up on top of a cliff? We went to a restaurant once on one of the days we had rented a car, im thinking it might have been on the "wild side" and it was up a steep cliff (there were stairs) and it had quite a few bra's and underwear on the ceiling, etc... and I remember the views there being incredible. Is this the same place?

Yes.. its up on a steep cliff overlooking the ocean.. bunches of stairs to climb.. but its a beautiful view to sit and have a meal and a drink...

We were in Cozumel for about a day and went to Chankanaab Park also. My son took an introductory scuba class (great class!), and my daughter and I snorkelled off the beach - neat area with submerged statues. We enjoyed our day there very much.

If we go back, we would like to go snorkelling at the Palancar Reef. I have heard great things about that area.

Yes that's it....

People leave their ummm garments behind to get into "The Book".

It's on the Bar....It's amazing what some people will do on vacation....

But don't think people are walking around naked either. When we were there, we had families with us and there were other fams there too....

If you go across the middle road to the east side of the island it is about a mile or two south of that on the ocean side.

DH, me, and another couple will be in Cozumel in 4 days:banana: . DH and the other guy will be scuba diving. The other lady and I will be shopping. Hoping to pick up a nice piece of jewelry for DH and I's anniversary. Before we get back on the ship I am hoping to hit Carlo's and Charlies.

There is a spectacular beach area called Mr. Sanchos (strange, I know). It has the clearest water I have ever seen, a little shopping area and an excellent casual restaurant literally on the beach. You are sitting in the sand on the shoreline, and when you are finished eating, you can just leave your stuff at the table and go swimming. Excellent Mexican food, and very reasonable.

We will be getting in on Thursday- we will just miss one another!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Keep them coming! I remember the book now that you mention it! Is the food good at Coconuts? I think we only went for drinks!

We are stopping off there on a cruise in May and plan to spend the day at Chankanaab & Discover Mexico. Discover Mexico is pretty new and we thought it would give us a bit of culture before we head to the beach and spend the rest of the day kicking back. :) Have fun!

Thanks for this thread. I am in the VERY early stages of planning a trip for our family for June 09 to Cozumel & Riviera Maya. I'm taking notes.

wow everyone keep the info coming! We are staying at an all inclusive resort but are still interested in restaurants and such. Has anyone taken a boat out for the day? Kinda like going deep sea fishing and such? My husband is interested in doing this but ive not heard anyone mention doing it in Mexico and if so havent heard the reviews.

What all-incl. are you staying?

So this restaurant would be family friendly for 3 kids?

We had really wanted to go to Xcaret, but have decided to book Chanaknaab instead because it is close. If I had a full day I would love to go to Xcaret, it looks wonderful!

I went to Cozumel on a RCCL cruise last month- did the Royal Swim w/ Dolphin Discovery (www.dolphindiscovery.com) at Chankanaab Park, and spent the rest of the day at Playa Uvas (www.playauvas.com) beach (walking distance from Chankanaab) where they have clear kayaks and snorkelling from shore. Both were great!

My boss went to Cozumel on her honeymoon, and they loved the dune buggy trip to the wild eastern side of the island. I don't know who they went through, but I think www.shoretrips.com has an option for this. I'd do it if I were to go back to Cozumel.

Snorkelling at Palancar reef is also popular, as are any of the beaches further south down the western coast.

Another on my "next time in Cozumel" list are the Tuluum ruins- actually on the mainland. You can also take a long day and go to Chichen Itsa which is further into the Yucatan.

Have a great trip!

We always go on a cruise ship. We like to go around to the back of the island to a little bar. We don't drink, but we grab a coke and walk down to the beautiful beach. The blue water is so wonderful.

Back in 2003 when we went my DD did the Dolphin swim she loved it. This trip it will be just the adults no kids, we are going to try and go to the Tuluum ruins. Last time the kids(DD and our best friends DD) didn't want to go.

I too am curious as to which all-inclusive resort!

we really enjoyed the island in Dec. while cruising; would luv to go back & stay for a few days:thumbsup2

we did excursion @ Playa Mia (all inclusive); far exceeded our expectations as to good fun, facilities, buffet & stiff drinks:goodvibes

funny thing is whilst lounging on the beach we could hear an increasing roar...people screaming, etc...it was the approaching party boat:rotfl:
