I've read that the lighting at night can be poor outside on the paths. I'm not worried about this, but are there tiki torches lit with fire? Just thought that would be really nice for the ambience.

Also, is it true you have to pay to use the safe in the room? How does it work, and how much does it cost?

Thanks!

There are Tiki torches lining the paths as well as other lighting. I find it beautiful and not too dark at all.

Safes are free. They are the touch pad type.

The walking paths have enough light so that walking is safe. It is so pretty walking with the light from the torches. I also liked the beach front in the evening. We took my DGD to play in the sand one night and watched the Electric Light Parade in the lake and enjoyed the view. You can see the CR all lit up across the lake.

Last December when my family and I stayed there one night there was a lot of fog, however we had no problems walking along the paths to the Great Ceremonial House.

the safes are nice there. Very easy to use. I hate the older safes that have the key and you have to carry it around with you. You make your own code and set it up.

The Poly is awesome at night! The Tiki tourches really add to the South Pacific with a Disney twist feel. Take a quiet stroll through the grounds late at night and you will see for yourself. I get such a kick out of watching a tourch light itself after the wind blew it out! As far as safes, I have never paid extra to use them at the Poly or any other Disney resort.

I agree! We didn't find it too dark at all.

And yes the safes are free :)

This amongst many others, is one of the reasons the POLY is my favorite resort, just walking around the resort at night is an attraction unto itself. When we would return from MK or EPCOT we would always get off at the TTC and walk back to our building just to enjoy the tiki torches one more time.

Thanks for all the replies. I really can't wait to stay there. How late are the torches lit until?

The reason I thought you had to pay for the safes is from I review I read on tripadvisor.com. Someone said they paid for a safe, and I found that odd.

Don't forget to take in the torch lighting ceremony while at the Polynesian. The times for this short but fun presentation are listed in the Island Palm Press (or is it Palm Island Press?) newspaper that you will be given at check-in.

ALOHA!

So much for tripadvisor then!:rotfl:

I don't know exactly what time the torches are turned off....after I'm asleep though. Years ago if I awakened in the middle of the night, they were still buring. Now they always seem to be out by 2 or 3...so my guesstimate is 1-2am? Maybe a night owl knows?
