Costco Amex Gas question, so confused!

For those with the Costco Amex card, it says you get 3% back on Costco and domestic stand-alone gas stations (excluding superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and warehouse clubs other than Costco);

Isn't there a tiny convenience store attached to every gas station???? What do they mean by this? Can you go to the local Shell Station? Or BP or Exxon???

Almost ALL gas stations nowadays are also convenience stores. You rarely ever see a stand alone gas station. We have ONE in our whole town. They only pump gas, change tires, do car inspections, etc. Sounds to me like that credit card wanted to add a bunch of exclusions so they don't really have to end up paying any cash back.

I don't think they are referring to gas stations with a "hut" selling convenience items, but rather those outlets which are more famous for being convenience store operators (such as 7-Eleven, QuikTrip, Circle K, Wawa, and Sheetz).

Hopefully someone w the card will chime in. Costco is not close enough for us to get gas there all the time.

We just signed up for cards today at work. Reading the back of the AMEX form is says:

"3% on the first $3,000 in eligible purchases each annual reward period (1% thereafter) of gasoline (individual purchases of 75 gallons or less) at Costco and domestic stand-alone gas stations (excluding superstores, supermarkets, convenience stores, and warehouse clubs other than Costco).

Hope that helps - if not, call their toll free 866-906-2532 and let us know!
