Should we stay at All-Stars resort preferred room or CSR standard room, not in tower? It will be in January with myself and 2 teenagers. Not going to swim or even use the resort much, more interested in transportation and getting to parks more easily.

PS-It's also $50/night cheaper to stay in All stars and we are staying 4 nights.

I think you're bussing either way.

I've not stayed in the standard CSR rooms. The tower would be worth it to me for sure.

Also dining will be better at CSR.

Both resorts use busses & are actually quite close to each other, so once you are on a bus, the travel times should be very comparable.

CSR has multiple bus stops whereas at the All Stars you just head out front to a single stop. The All Stars have a much more compact footprint, too.

Personally, if not spending a lot of time at the resort, I'd save the $$s & stay at the All Stars - we actually really liked our stays at Sports very much :)!

The All Star rooms are 260 sq. feet and the CSR standard rooms are 314 sq. feet, so slightly bigger.

The All Star has a single area to pick up a bus with different lines for the different parks. CSR has four bus stops so you will be riding around in a loop making stops before you leave the resort or if you are the last stop, have a lesser chance of having a seat.

CSR has multiple table service restaurants and lounges in addition to a food court and a limited menu at the main pool. The All Stars have only a food court and a pool bar.

CSR has a feature pool with a slide and hot tub and several plain pools. The All Stars main pool does not have a slide or hot tub and there are also plain pools.

I'd pick one of the All Star Resorts over Coronado any day!
ESPECIALLY due to transportation. In my experience Coronado Springs transportation is one of the WORST.

But if you're looking for a Value resort with excellent transportation I'd go with POP.

But out of the All Stars Resorts I'd either go Movies for theme or Sports for price.

Based on your OP I would say get a room at All Star Sports and save yourself the cost of the preferred room, it is really not needed at this All Star as the resort is quite compact. We have stayed there twice and are returning in January as well in a standard room. The best value on Disney property!

Transportation is NOT where CSR shines due to the size of the property. There are 4 bus stops and the buses all loop on their way too/from parks, it’s a time suck.

I haven't found that to be true. I think CSR has some of the bus service, due in part to it being a conference resort. Not everyone staying there is heading to the parks. The buses seem to be less full than other resorts.

And on some occasions the All Star resorts do share a bus. Typically during the middle of the day when not that many guests are coming and going, but it still can happen.

The CSR buses make all the stops all the time unless the bus is packed to the gills. In all my stays transport has always been a downside to CSR. And if you want to skip that and rideshare, they can only pickup/drop off at the tower 🙄

It probably depends on when you stay. We stayed there once for a full two weeks and went to the parks daily. Buses were too infrequent and packed to meet the needs of the rope drop crowds. We were lucky enough to be able to squeeze on at our stop near the Cabanas section, but we witnessed plenty of frustrated families each morning who were unable to get on at the next stop.

I like CSR, but only with a car.

Doesn't the busses go to all three All Star resorts a lot of the time?

We stayed for a week on our last trip and did not share in the mornings.

Plus each of the AllStars has a dedicated bus pick up location at the parks. So no sharing when leaving the parks and the option to hop on another AllStar bus and walk over to your AllStar resort if you wish.

I second the idea of splitting the difference and looking at Pop. The Skyliner access may tip the scales if getting to/from the parks is a priority.

Good point.

In the "old days" bus sharing happened VERY frequently giving Sports a nice advantage being the first stop.

But in recent years it happens much less often.

I’m not a big fan of the values. The rooms just feel so tight and small. However, if you’re pretty much going to just be sleeping there I’d say just go with the All Stars. If you book Movies request the Ducks section. It’s pretty much preferred for Music.

If you’re going to be at the resort a little, I’d pay the upgrade. Coronado has more dining options, it’s much more quiet, and just has a more relaxed feel. We only stayed one night at Coronado before a week long stay so didn’t use the buses so can’t comment on those.
