Well that sounds easy enough!!! I'm assuming since it's not Disney owned that it's not on the DDP? (this is our first DDP trip, and I'm still trying to figure it out ;) )

Oh, but it is on the Disney Dining Plan (all three of the restaurants at CSR are) and it is a great deal (where else can you get a steak on the dining plan?). :)

Wow, I wouldn't have thought!!! That's great news.

Will they tell you what is and what is not on the DDP when you are ready to order?

P.S. Just saw the X-mas pics on a website someone reffered me to (Buzz's? webstite), and they are beautiful!!

If a restaurant is on the DDP, then anything on the menu can be ordered within the confines of the dining plan. When you say "DDP", are you referring to it being the Disney Dining Plan or the Deluxe Dining Plan? I think most people refer to the deluxe plan as DDDP, but just checking to make sure. What is offered on the various dining plans themselves varies in what you may choose.

Not quite - a lot of snacks are not on any dining plan. Generally there will be a symbol on the menu or on the card in front of an item such as a pastry indicating that it's on the dining plan.

(On these boards I've usually seen the deluxe dining referred to as DxDP, regular as DDP. I don't think I've ever seen DDDP.)

Hello everyone :wave2:
Skimmed over all 167 pages over the last week...whew. SOOO glad I did! My best friend and I are going on a no kids, no hubbies, GIRLS ONLY vaca for July 12-16!! Woohoo! :yay:
We are park junkies so while we'll love our CSR stay we'll be up at dawn, only to return after all EMH's/closings.
After reading so many wonderful posts I called and requested Casitas 4 or 5 simply because of the close proximity to bus stops and being the first to be picked up. Our families last stay (POP century) was a bus nightmare! I'm hoping we'll be in a better situation this time with less wait, less walking, less standing, less pack-us-in-like-sardines. Would you all agree with this location and if not, what other area would be a good fit for us?
Thank you in advance :)
Heather

Just wanted to re-ask if y'all thought this would be a location for us as far as bus location/pick up schedule?

Casitas 4 and 5 will put you very close to the first stop picked up and dropped off (Bus Stop 2) so it is ideal. However, a request is just a request and not a guarantee. If you can't get that, I would see if they could put you in Cabanas 8A...it is very close to a bus stop too and a great location.

My family is considering staying here on our upcoming trip in November and I had a question about the pepper market. I read on the first page that they charge you 10% gratuity when you cash out. Do they charge this when you are on the dining plan as well?? I just want to know if I need to be prepared with extra money.

This is the mystery question that has gone on for years. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. We never used to pay it on the dining plan, but last year we did. If you ask for your food to go, you do not pay the 10% (this is what we do 90% of the time because we like eating out by the lake).

I'm glad it did not disappoint! Thank you for thinking of us. Let me know if you do a TR or a review.

Kathy, I may do a review of POR and I will definitely be mentioning CSR in it if I do since we spent a lovely afternoon there. Since we probably won't get free dining next year, we won't be using a Dining Plan and I am not sure I could keep Dan out of Pepper Market and that steak for two weeks and the cost would be high if we had to pay out of pocket. I really like the idea of a split stay between the two since I love them both so much.

I'll let you know if I do a review on POR, I am so depressed right now I almost can't think about the trip let alone write about it!

I will add that the employees at the Pepper Market were some of the nicest cm's we met. The lady at Cafe Rix was also super nice, I chatted with her when I bought a water bottle before we left.

The cm's at Panchitos were also great, I think its truly one of the nicest gift shops at any resort.

WOO HOO! Officially booked for 6 days/7 nights in Sept. 2012 for our Honeymoon at CSR!!!:banana::banana::cloud9:

I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :goodvibes

Congratulations on both booking at CSR but, more importantly, your upcoming wedding.

Thank you SO SO much. I am really starting to LOVE these boards, becoming a little bit of an addiction for me. EVeryone is so supportive and helpful in answering questions. I am sure I will have plenty more to come!

We've decided to give CSR a try for a Christmas trip this year. thanks to whoever put together "Page 1" with all the wonderful information.

I made our reservations this past Monday, and have been very stressed about the possibility of staying in the Rancho's section (sorry, just not my cup of tea). Well I decided to head over to page one about an hour ago, and see that they offer a Preffered section in Casita's, which is exactly where I would want to stay!!!! I called up Disney, and switched our reservation to this section..................I am so much more relieved now.

I do hope to enjoy the resort, our dates are 12/21 - 12/27................is it decorated nice for Christmas??

How is the Maya Grill?? and is the Pepper Market as confusing to eat at as I have read?

KatMark is the one that keeps this thread updated and did all the work on page 1. She's fantastic. CSR really should give her and her husband free trips down there. It's due to her that I gave CSR another chance, after a not so great first trip. Now, I've fallen in love with the resort and prefer it over the Deluxes.:rotfl: There's no telling, how many other people KatMark has influenced to try CSR, due to her love and enthusiasm for the resort.

I too am not a fan of the Ranchos and thus far have managed not to be placed there. My favorite location is the Cabanas. (I'm hoping to be placed there during both my upcoming Sept and Nov/Dec trips.) I wouldn't mind paying the preferred rates, except the preferred rooms are all in Casitas 1, 2, and 3, so wouldn't help me get my preferred Cabanas location. One thing to remember is that Casitas 2 is the only building that doesn't have an elevator. Of course, you could always use the elevator in Casitas 3 and then walk across the walkway. The only problem with that is if you happened to be placed on the back side of Casitas 2 way down toward the end. That's a long walk from the Casitas 3 elevator. When I was there I was on the top floor and because it was closer to the bus stop, just cut through by the pool and used those stairs. (The outside stairs only go up to the third floor and I was on the fourth floor). I was really surprised they made those parking lot facing rooms preferred.

I've been there several times during Christmas and like the way they decorate. The covererd area out front always has alot of white/pink poinsetta baskets and garlands hanging down. Sometimes the check in area has one tree in between the windows and sometimes it has two side by side (one in front of each window). The fountain in the entry is always filled with poinsettas and twice the fountain was replaced by a large Christmas tree. The last couple of years that tree hasn't been there though. Going down the hallway toward the restaurants they have little shelves with small Chistmas trees on them and garlands going across. There's also a small gingerbread house down between the Pepper Market and Maya Grill. That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Maya Grill is pretty good if you like that type of food (which we do). They do not have the traditional Tex Mex though. It's more like the food they serve in the southern part of Mexico. We like the Pepper Market and always make at least one trip over there, even if we are not staying there. (We don't care for CS at DS or AK, so usually go over to the Pepper Market for lunch at least one or two of those days). They have huge chicken nachos, good burritos made to order (we always get extra guacamole:rotfl:). When we were there for lunch this past May (stayed over at POFQ), they only had the Mexican steak on the menu. When I was there in Dec they had two steaks for lunch (traditional with fries and grilled veggies at the grilled station and the Mexican steak with black beans, rice, guacamole, and jalapeno peppers at the Mexican station). They also have a pretty good roasted chicken that comes with grilled veggies and fries. My husband liked the pork loin with mango sauce also. We also like their homemade desserts (strawberry cake, oreo cake, flan, blueberry cheesecake, etc). They can be a little expensive if you pay OOP, but are a great deal on the DDP.

I don't know why some people say the Pepper Market is confusing. You walk up, a hostess seats you, a waiter comes and takes your drink order and gives you the card that shows where the different stations are. You walk around, order what you want from each station, give the card to the CM who writes down what you ordered, and go back to your table where your drink and silverware are waiting on you. You eat, then take your cards to the cashier who checks you out. As far as the mandatory tip, supposedly it is no longer covered under the DDP. We just always leave ours on the table for the waiter. The cashier will not ask you for it, so if you don't leave it, the waiter will get stiffed. If you want to avoid the gratuity, just ask for your food to go when you order it at each station and they will put it in styrofoam boxes and bag it for you and there is a place off to the left as you walk out that has plastic cutlery and napkins. You can take it outside to eat at the tables overlooking the lake or back to your room.

So I keep going back and forth over which section to request....I know no guarantees.

I love the looks of the Casitas courtyards, I really like the idea of being close to the hammocks in the Cabanas although that theming does not particularly appeal to me, and I know that DH would love the theming in Ranchos (not particularly my favorite). I want to be close to a decent bus stop (not one where I run the risk of the bus being full when it gets there as we will not have access to a vehicle for our stay). I would like to be reasonably close to a nice quiet pool and the Dig Site. I don't need to be close to a laundry room as I no longer do laundry on vacation anymore after losing almost a whole day in Paris.

Anyone have any suggestions on what would be the best location to request based on these wildly differing likes/dislikes? :confused3

Also......can anyone explain how ME works for when you leave the resort? We are flying home on Southwest which is a participating airline where you just turn your luggage over to ME and you never have to see it again until you reach your home destination. Does someone come to our room to pick up the luggage or do we have to schlepp it up to the ME pickup location which someone was kind enough to tell me was close to the Convention Center (to the left of El Centro as you face it I believe?).

If you don't want to run the risk of a full bus, then either Casitas 4 or 5, or Ranchos would work for you. Both are close to a quiet pool, with the Ranchos being a bit closer to the Dig Site. For the parks, Casitas get picked up/dropped off first, Ranchos second. It's slightly riskier at Cabanas, which are picked up/dropped off third.

You can call Bell Services to take your luggage down to the RAC for check in, but you have to be there to check in your bags - IDs & tickets needed, just as if you were at the airport. So you'd go with Bell Services, probably in one of their little golf carts. Or you can take it yourself, which is what we've always done.

A little late, but here are some photos from our trip last month. To re-cap, I had asked for Cabanas, but we were given rooms in Ranchos. That was the only section where we could get a connecting room with the other family we were traveling with, so we took it. We were given lovely pool-facing rooms in Ranchos 7B. We were super close to the bus-stop and not far from the Dig Site and only about a 10-minute walk to El Centro. So, all in all, it was a good location.

The room we had:
