Convenient ways to bring water to the parks? Filtering bottles?

We are currently stationed in Florida and I agree the water here tastes and smells awful! When we fist moved here I bought a Brita filter and quit using it because I could still taste the foul water. I have not yet found anything that fully filters the taste of the hard water out. I usually just drink bottle water only, I don't even ask in restaurants for water.

My suggestion would be to bring your own bottled water. I bought a large(ish) reusable water bottle and fill that in my hotel room with my bottled water. This way it holds more than a single bottle. Since your kids (unless I read this wrong) are happy with the flavor packets in their water I would just bring two water bottles for yourself and then getting them a cup of water from a stand. This way you are not lugging around fifty water bottles. We also take a mid day break at our hotel so I restock there. I usually do end up buying a bottle of water or two throughout my trip from a vendor but usually because their water is cold and during the summer that is important.

I didnt realize brita made a filtered bottle, thanks for the info.

Brita "made" a filtered bottle. Its been out of production for maybe 5 years and the only place to get filters is any left over stock on eBay.

Everyone has said good things about the Bobble bottle. GNC.com has a buy 3 get one free deal right now. You can even buy different colors and still get the free one.

I too found that the Brita didn't take all the funk the last time I was there. The only thing that worked was a bottle filter that also had activated charcoal.

Also maybe if you let it sit a bit after filtering.

Thanks, I was just trying to find it on ebay and its "out of stock".

Maybe none of them totally take out the funky taste of WDW water and we will just put up with it. :confused3

If you are staying on site but with no car, have garden grocer deliver some water. They have a minimum order (I think $40) but add some snacks and breakfast items and it's easy to meet the minimum.
As far as carrying around water bottles in the park, I like a camel back . Pour your bottled water into it and stick in refrig or add ice. Stays cold for a long time. If you don't want the expense of a camel back (they are a bit pricey) at Walmart in usually the camping area, look for a bottle holder. It will have a rubber ring that you slip of the top of the bottle and has a clip on it to attach to your bag, lanyard or pants loop. I found a differnet one I like better than the rubber ring. It is a cord with a sliding fastener and has the clip. It is easier to put on and off the water bottle pluse it can go around different size item.

I don't believe I mentioned anything about juices or sodas at all. Not sure where you got that from. What I said, and I will repeat is...I wouldn't consider lugging around water all day just to save a few dollars. It isn't worth it to me and I stated (to answer your question) that I would avoid that awful taste of WDW water by purchasing bottled water. I don't think I could have been any clearer or less "absurd".

Carrying around water like a camel in the desert may be your idea of joy...it is not mine. And since you were so nice to call me absurd, I will repeat that to think that it is necessary to be drinking water constantly is equally absurd, except that I stated it a little more politely originally and said it seemed silly to me.

I will repeat my answer to the question of how to avoid that awful taste of WDW water. Buy bottled water. The stuff is good and it's cold.

Well it's obvious that you didn't understand the question. Possibly you didn't bother to read it and just the title, but who knows. Because if you had bothered to read it you would see there is no difference between carrying around the bottle that I buy and the bottle that I bring.

It seems you are just being difficult for the sake of being difficult. You you had no real advice and could be of no help why bother replying? Or possibly you just think the disboards is your own personal soap box:confused3

My solution is to just buy a bottle of water or two while in the parks. It is my firm belief that this obsession with massive amounts of water consumption is just silly. It causes one to need to use the facilities far more often and it has little or no real value when done to excess.

We are not living one second longer then out great-grandparents did way before it was fashionable to drag along a 50 gallon drum of water wherever one goes. We get water from the food we eat as well as just constantly sucking on a plastic dispenser. So therein lies my recommendation which I know won't be taken, but for a few dollars a day to not have to drag around that addition weight and end up with tepid water is well worth budgeting the extra cash to buy it, as one needs it.

Our great-grandparents weren't walking outside all day in Florida in 80 degree heat with 80% humidity. I do agree that some of the water fetish is overdone (I don't buy that if you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated for instance), but drinking plenty of water does cool you.

I'm a water hauler to the parks. Not only for the money, but also the convenience of not having to wait in line. I pay for it with the extra work-out.

Drinking water is good especially on hot days... but it's pointless if you aren't replenishing your salts.

I drink lots of water on hot days if I'm going to be doing a lot of walking around and bring little things to snack on to keep the balance. but if I don't drink enough water I get heat exhaustion quite easily. If I drink lots of water and replenish the salts and maybe throw a gatorade or something in there I can handle the heat just fine.

It is possible to drink TOO much water but I don't think anyone here is talking about consuming amounts nearly enough for that. If people want to drink water on hot days I don't see why anyone else should care :confused3 I like water. When I get thirsty I crave water lol it has to be a glass of water or it just doesn't satisfy my thirst.

If it's to save money I say buy a case of water at a publix or something and then carry those around. Much cheaper than buying water at Disney. but if it's just a matter of carrying it around I would suggest a good filter bottle or a camel back that you can fill with bottled water and then you just wear it like a backpack and it's not really heavy.

We've used the Bobble in WDW and it worked great. Saved some $$ on buying water and I definitely thought it took care of the Florida funky water taste.

:rotfl: Only on the disboards does a question about how to get rid of bad water taste end up in a fight about life expectancy :rotfl:

Our great-grandparents weren't walking outside all day in Florida in 80 degree heat with 80% humidity.

You're correct, all they were doing is working outside in 80 degree and more temperature, sometimes from morning till night, doing everything by hand physically, hauling water in some cases, existing without air conditioning.

You're right we have it a lot rougher now, so we do need the extra water.

Look I don't care how much water anyone drinks...that's their business. The question was asked how do you avoid the awful taste. I answered, obviously not to the liking of the OP, but that was my opinion and how I do it.

No one has to run out and buy bottled water, I was expressing my opinion. Apparently, I introduced a possibility that for whatever reason the OP doesn't find acceptable. Fine...many of the rest of you offered suggestions more in line with their thinking. I even interjected a little levity by making the flippant remark about carrying around a 50 gal drum. Of course that was absurd, it was meant to be. Thanks for getting that!

Glad to hear the Bobble works well. My DH bought one and loves it so we got 3 more to take with us to WDW!

I tried the Brita in 2004 and thought it made the water taste worse, if anything. But I don't have a problem with the ice water from CS places, so I bring in a bottle, and then if I need more later, that's what we get.

I didn't want to carry anything with me, so we mostly bought bottled water in the park. Don't forget too that any counter service place that has sodas will also have filtered water they will give you a cup of for free.

I bring a refillable water bottle, and fill it up with ice water from CS restaurants. Works great! It tastes just fine -- it's not the same water as the icky tap/water fountain water.

Using a refillable bottle is better for the environment, and much easier than trying to lug around several bottles at once!

We took Bobble bottles with us in August and they worked very well. Unfortunately, the fountain water was tepid (it was over 100 degrees outside every day) so while the water tasted fine, it wasn't very palatable or refreshing. I started asking for large cups of water at the CS places and putting them into the Bobble (yes, we think the water from CS doesn't taste very good either, and it's what makes the fountain sodas taste icky, too). Anyhow... bobble worked well for us, we filled them as needed, and I discovered that I could fill the bottle with ICE from the drink machines during breakfast and the water would melt during the morning, giving me cold water during the morning hours.

I will repeat my answer to the question of how to avoid that awful taste of WDW water. Buy bottled water. The stuff is good and it's cold.

OP I am just the opposite, first of all you can't get a single bottle of water for few bucks at WDW. They are $4-$5 a bottle, with 5 people in my family, thats $25 for one water stop. No way am I paying that. :headache:

My alternative is an Igloo 12-pack backpack cooler. We load 8 water bottles (some flavored with Crystal Light) and ice and the whole thing weighs less than 6 pounds. As you consume, the load gets lighter and you always have ice cold drinks at your fingertips. I'm not one to wait in line for CS refills and I won't pay exhorbinant prices for water. Plus it's a backpack cooler so it's not that much of a burden at all.On rides I just shove it between my legs. Works well for us.
