Can you all tell I come bearing good news? Well, I do! My mom made it through her first surgery this morning fine, although she's still a little woozy from the anesthesia and sedative they put her on. The surgeon had the area looked at under a microscope in the OR immediately, and he said there was no sign of a mass and, as far as they could tell today, it was non-cancerous! :goodvibes They'll still send it off to be tested at a lab, but he expects it to come back fine. Praise God, is all I have to say. I was so worried she'd have to deal with this on both sides. Thankfully, it doesn't look that way.

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. My mom doesn't use computers really, but I've told her about you all and she has been so touched that y'all care enough to pray and think positively for her. She wanted me to thank y'all for her. It means a lot to her.

:woohoo: :dance3: Excellent news SD!!

I just heard on the news that Jack Kemp has been diagnosed with cancer. They said tests are still being run to determine the type.

right, they refer you to a limo service, although i prefer mears transportation.

i didn't care for the magic express either, and you're the only other person i've noticed saying that. right from the get go i was disappointed. i got off the plane, tried to follow the signs to whatever counter i was told to go to, but there weren't any signs. instead, about mid-way, there was somebody standing with a sign in her hand that said disney, and she was hollering, "you can go ahead and get your luggage and take it out to the bus."

huh? the whole purpose of those luggage tags you finally sent to me (on my third request) was so YOU would go get my luggage! when the bus finally got moving, the guy was too hyper for 11 p.m. and wouldn't be quiet enough to let us watch/listen to the video. on the way back, they insisted on picking me up outside akl at 4 a.m., and my flight wasn't until 8:30.

You were lucky. We arrived and there were , literally, over 100 people in line. There families were sitting on the floor waiting for them to get through the line to check in. Dh said NO WAY!!! We took a cab....both ways.

Wow. Sorry that you guys had bad experiences. I've only used them twice now but both times have been great! I've never been told to get my own luggage; both times Disney took care of it and it arrived safely in my hotel room later that day. It tells you on the Magical Express booklet they send to you where they're located at MCO so I've never had much difficulty in locating them. Yes, they do schedule to pick you up three hours before your flight time but coming thru the airport after Christmas this last time, that three hours (well, technically just over two hours as travel time to the airport in included in that three hours) was needed.

:cool1: I'm very happy to hear that report!

I gave McCain my time, some of my money, and more importantly, my vote. That's all he's getting from me. I sucked it up and voted for the man, but I will not continue to support him or anything like this if he's promoting it. I don't trust him, never have and never will. He can go sit on a tack for all I care, much like Huckabee and his Huckabee PAC.

Sorry, I'm in a snarky mood today. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

My computer is moving really slow right now ... it's still downloading all of my Disney picture to Snapfish :rolleyes1

(it wasn't kidding about that five day thing!)

I haven't been on these boards today - what am I missing or what page of the thread do I need to go back to. With my slow computer it'll take to long to read everything written today.

I'd like to get my LPN/LVN, then my ADN/ASN, then my BSN, join the Army or Air Force and then get my midwife degree/certificate. I'm starting from scratch, if I can ever get to school. :sad2:
FWIW, I'm going to do LPN so that I can get ADN/ASN online.

Why do there not seem to be any schools or tech colleges that offer LPN/LVN anymore? Sheesh! :headache:

I'm not sure what all that means but you go girl!

And SD - :yay: :yay: :yay: is right! Thanks for letting us know your good news.

About ME - don't :scared1: me like that! I'm about to be their prisoner in a little over two weeks!

About McCain - he had me when he put SP on the ticket - he lost me forever when he ingratiated himself to Obama in that 30 minute 'meeting' [groveling/compromising what little conservativism he had left] AND, at the same time, remained silent when his running mate was being dragged through the mud by his own staff.

He got a lot of money from me [I've never given to a political campaign before] he got a lot of time from me [a week in NC working on his campaign] - I don't regret that I did this but I will not do it again if he's in charge of something because I just don't trust him anymore. Stick me, I'm done. He's a wonderful person, I'm sure but I expect a little more from a leader....

MM - thanks for the update about your sister and I hope you're feeling better. Don't let that keep you from eating McD's double cheeseburgers, though...grease - nature's perfect food :)

Got this in an e-mail from a friend

What happens when a fly falls into a coffee cup?

The Italian - throws the cup and walks away in a fit of rage.

The Frenchman - takes out the fly, and drinks the coffee.

The Chinese - eats the fly and throws away the coffee.

The Russian - drinks the coffee with the fly, since it was extra with no charge.

The Israeli - sells the coffee to the Frenchman, the fly to the Chinese, buys himself a new cup of coffee and uses the extra money to invent a device that prevents flies from falling into coffee.

The Palestinian - blames the Israeli for the fly falling in his coffee, protests the act of aggression to the UN, takes a loan from the European Union to buy a new cup of coffee, uses the money to purchase explosives…and then
blows up the coffee house where the Italian, the Frenchman, the Chinese, and the Russian are all trying to explain to the Israeli that he should give away his cup of coffee to the Palestinian.

 LVN/LPN is licensed vocational/practical nurse. ADN/ASN is Associate Degree of Nursing/Associate of Science in Nursing. That would mean I'd be an RN after passing the NCLEX.
BSN is Bachelor of Science in Nursing. With that I can go into the military as an officer and a nurse.

I appreciate McCain and respect what he went through for this country, and while I would have rather had McCain than Nobama, I held my nose when voting. The only thing that made me excited was putting Palin on the ticket.

I agree. :rotfl:

What page do I need to go back to? Why are we talking about McCain :confused3

debbieandroo - don't stress about the Magical Express. It'll all be fine, I'm sure. I used them last week without a problem.

OOOH OOOH I can answer that....most school dont offer it anymore because there is not much desire to hire them anymore. It switched over some years back where they were phasing out LPN/LVN and places were not only requiring RN's, but RN's with a BSN..If you are a RN with a AA degree forget about getting a good position.

Nursing homes still hire LPN/LVN and also RN without BSN. Years ago LVNs/LPN's did a lot of the grunge work like bed pans and beds and bathing the patients and getting vitals and such. They use Nurses aids for that now and also, after they were being phased out us RN's had to start doing there work along with our work. This made for a big stink among Nurses and also mistakes started happening. To many patients per nurse. And all that paper work ...UHG....

Have you looked into maybe just getting your RN and going from there. In the years that I worked as a L&D Nurse....almost all of the midwifes were RN :confused3 not sure how the military works however.

Either way ....good for you for going back to school , it is a worth while career and the time you put into it will come back to you seventh fold:thumbsup2 Even though I am not practicing I still keep my licence active and take my required credits and clinical hrs to stay licenced...I dont expect to return to my career but ya never can tell what life might throw at us. And one thing about Nursing and midwifes....they are needed every where.

I want to give you a heads up that the majority of hospitals don't hire LPNs anymore. The only places hiring them are doc's offices, and they are paying them precious little money. I'd rethink doing the LPN route if I were you. Do any of your community colleges offer RN programs? That is the route I took many moons ago, and the hospital I eventually ended up working for back-paid my tuition!

SD - so glad to hear the good news. Continued prayers for both you and your mom.

I took a 4 hour nap - I needed it so badly, but I'm going back to bed in a few. I'm wondering if I should eat something first before going to bed.

I'm reading Glenn's "An Inconvenient Book" and it's scaring me. I shouldn't read it before bed.

Yup! The mil will pay back up to $60,000-$100,000of student loans. AMEDD director said nurses are in short supply and are desperately needed. I won't make the money I would in the civilian sector but I will serve my country. :thumbsup2

With the military, I've already spoken to the director of AMEDD and they will pay for my BSN and pay for whatever it takes for me to get my midwife thing. I just have to pay for ADN/ASN which is still pain in the toosh.
I did consider just going for RN and I may still do that instead of LPN. It's just an option I'm researching right now.

I say go for it!!:thumbsup2
