Conservative thread: We're still smiling!

hrmm...DH just sent me the email about the military special Disney is offering this year to all active duty military....apparently he wants to try and figure out a way to go.

If we do figure out a way to swing it...I'm gonna be calling on ALL of your help to plan it. I haven't been there in 15 years:scared1: and last time I was there I was with my mouseketeer friend, so I did things most people don't get to do. I've never stayed on property either but we'd likely do POP since it is most affordable. DH and I aren't big on paying for hotel rooms when we only plan to sleep there.

Soarin' how long are you there??
Hey, did you know that there's a military-only resort at WDW? I don't know the name of it so you'll have to ask. :goodvibes

I'm there through August 7th.:thumbsup2 Any help you need planning, feel free to ask. I love doing stuff like that.:goodvibes As a CM, I will be able to get additonal discounts for people so that combined with the military discount could make this a very cheap trip.:dance3:
So if we start planning to go in Jan 2010, will you still be there? How about Sep '09? :rolleyes1

Okay, I just don't see what people see in Johnny Depp. I don't get it. I really don't think he's that good looking.

Do I get kicked off now?
No, because I don't see it, either. I much preferred Orlando Bloom in Pirates, but maybe that's just me.

Yeah, I had a dream that I was married to Hugh Laurie last night. Man, if he were not an atheist and 20 years younger, I would totally go for it. Wow, I know when I say these things that I need to get another boyfriend SOON!! :scared:
I got someone you can hook up with. But he lives here in WA. And you don't want to move here, believe me. :lmao:

I don't feel that way about Hugh Laurie, but I do have a celebrity husband...Gerard Butler. Only thing standing in the way is my husband, my son, and the fact that I've never met the man. :rotfl:

goodvibes

No- my College Program ends August 7th. But I'll be back in May 2010 after my sister's graduation and my NYC trip to do another WDW CP.:thumbsup2

Yes, I am with you. Time for a new generation of conservative politicians.

Conservative politicians with conservative principles that are not automatically compromised every time someone says: "Let's work together".

That would be my wish.

Don't worry. Nothing will spark a new conservative revolution faster than the perfect liberal storm of Obama-Pelosi-Reid.

That resort is Shades of Green, formerly the Disney Inn. Apparently it's gorgeous. (wonderlanne beat me, lo siento)

Yeah, I'm not a fan of snow, rain, and clouds. And I've never met Hugh Laurie either, but he's a musician, a writer, and a comedian. He's my perfect match. Once I do get married, I will try to keep my crushes to myself, but I probably won't.

Hugh Laurie plays piano, which is pretty much all a man needs to do to get me...ask my DH! :rotfl: Once I heard him play at church, it was ALL over.

I think they still own it. Certainly looks like they do, from their website.

I thought that Disney did own it when it was the Disney Inn, but then the government bought it. In that case, SoG is really owned by Uncle Sam, and has been since it's inception. On the podcast, they said the grounds are pretty much like a military base. However, Disney probably does still have interest in there somewhere.

Thanks! I knew it was green somethingorother.

It is Shades of Green. It's across the street from the Poly. My step-dad is retired mitlitary and we have stayed at the resort. It is VERY nice. There rooms are large. Disney doesn't own it but, you still have the perks. (except..I don't think you can use Magic Express. I'll never try to do that again. It was a nightmare) The room rates are verrrrryy reasonable. We paid less than $100 per night. There is no tax....ON ANYTHING AT SHADES OF GREEN.
**edited to add link**http://http://www.shadesofgreen.org/eligibility.htm
The grounds are beautiful. The only thing "military resort" is you must check in at the guard gate. The same as any other Disney resort.

owned by the u.s. department of defense. it is supposed to be comparable to a disney deluxe resort.

Yeah, the pics seem like it's really nice. :thumbsup2

right, they refer you to a limo service, although i prefer mears transportation.

i didn't care for the magic express either, and you're the only other person i've noticed saying that. right from the get go i was disappointed. i got off the plane, tried to follow the signs to whatever counter i was told to go to, but there weren't any signs. instead, about mid-way, there was somebody standing with a sign in her hand that said disney, and she was hollering, "you can go ahead and get your luggage and take it out to the bus."

huh? the whole purpose of those luggage tags you finally sent to me (on my third request) was so YOU would go get my luggage! when the bus finally got moving, the guy was too hyper for 11 p.m. and wouldn't be quiet enough to let us watch/listen to the video. on the way back, they insisted on picking me up outside akl at 4 a.m., and my flight wasn't until 8:30.

You were lucky. We arrived and there were , literally, over 100 people in line. There families were sitting on the floor waiting for them to get through the line to check in. Dh said NO WAY!!! We took a cab....both ways.

Maybe we'll just rent a van or something, considering there would be 7 of us. We don't do limos. :rotfl:
