We need prayers as on Christmas Eve DH got a call that he and all the drivers for his job had been laid off until at least Jan 5th. They have a conference call today and we're praying that it goes well and he can get back to work.

Happy New Year, everyone! :cool1:

Saying prayers for your DH!

Yes, it is the same daughter. She will be singing with the Alaska Children's Choir for the Alaska Statehood Celebration 50th Stamp Ceremony. Governor Palin is scheduled to speak. Initially, our flight was coming in just hours after the event, but since we've returned home early, she can go.

He hasn't improved, so they are flying to the Mayo Clinic tomorrow.

Congrats to your dd! More prayers to your father, also.

Anybody know who the Stockton Thunder is? I'm thinking college hockey...we flew in with the team last night. DD was liking that...she got to sit by some of them. :thumbsup2
Its minor league hockey. I looked it up! They're playing you guys tonight! *I LOVE minor league hockey! Less money, all the fun... and usually they rack up the penalty minutes!

NO!
I do not want a recipe!:rotfl:

Sorry the squirrel thread is not as funny as the
SP hates animals Beowulf in Old English post. Sorry that one always that one always cracks me up.

Nothing will EVER top Beowolf! But, give the squirrel a chance. It didn't really hit me til the next day. Then I realized it had the same look in its eyes as my crazy deck squirrels!

Good for Israel!

Here's an op-ed from Alan Dershowitz -- a liberal -- but one who understands that Hamas is a terrorist group. It's very well said.

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/1231/p09s02-coop.html

And here's video of Fox News's Greg Jarrett cutting short an interview with a Palestinian apologist after she repeatedly lied and spewed lying propaganda. It's brilliant!

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/12/30/video-greg-jarrett-cuts-interview-with-palestinian-apologist-short/

And yesterday I saw one of my heroes — Benjamin Netanyahu — being interviewed by some apologist for the terrorist group Hamas masquerading as a journalist. When the snot-nosed little punk said something about Israel's "unprovoked aggression" in Gaza, Netanyahu said: "You're in New York, right? How many bombs being lobbed into your neighborhood from New Jersey are you going to accept before you want your government to do something about it?" The little punk just sputtered like an idiot. It was awesome!

I see a tide turning, though. More and more I'm seeing people say that Israel has the right — in fact, the duty — to protect its citizens from the terrorist group Hamas and its continuous, unprovoked rocket attacks into Israeli territory. Gee, do ya think?

:thumbsup2

Happy New Year to anyone who might be going out, or going to bed early! I would like to go see "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", or maybe "Valkrie". Has anyone heard anything about either? If not, we'll be staying home per usual. I think we've been out maybe three times in 24 years, and one of thosee years we were in St. Lucia, so of course we were out! DD is out with her fiancee and DS just left with half the "geek squad" as we call them to have a xbox 360 gamers new years. I'm thankful I'm not feeding them this year! Usually its at my house.

I saw Valkyrie the other day and loved it. As a WW2 buff I knew the details of what was going to happen before I even went into the movie and was still on the edge of my seat for most of it. Even the posters on a WW2 message board I am on are giving it good reviews and they normally pick any WW2 movie apart.

Tom Cruise did a decent job. It was easy to put all his off screen stuff out of my mind as I watched the movie. He also has a great supporting cast, which didn't hurt.

We got back from CA on Monday, four days after we were originally scheduled to be back. Long story.

We need prayers as on Christmas Eve DH got a call that he and all the drivers for his job had been laid off until at least Jan 5th. They have a conference call today and we're praying that it goes well and he can get back to work.

I haven't been on this thread as the only net access we had was if DH took his sim card out of his phone and stuck it in my laptop, and even then it was as quick as molasses and everyone wanted to use my laptop.

Happy New Year, everyone! :cool1:
Prayers for you and your DH Tink.

tryin' to keep us on the front page -

sooooo, now that we're winning in Iraq, the MSM is pulling all of their journalists out? [this is probably good for the soldiers, though]
They can't afford to keep their journalists there - nobody watches them anymore.

DebbieandRoo - every single one of those quotes saddened me. And they say there is no bias in the media...

Michiganders - if you're watching Fox Sports Detroit, you probably just saw a couple minute praise of my kids' school. We are the smallest school with a football team in Michigan and we outscored our opponents this year of 400-50. It was so cool to see our boys on TV. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to be a part of this team. Football is HUGE here. :)

Happy New Year!!

*can't believe I spelled that wrong!* Thank you for the glowing review! That is what scares us. We know the story!

I'm so sorry I missed them! Hopefully I'll catch it later?! Glad they didn'tt have the worst HS football ever, as that would certainly be our town!

Here's a couple of links for anyone interested in seeing it. The first is about the bomb plot, and is interesting because it also talks about what happened to Stauffenberg's family afterward. The second is a pretty even handed review of the film.

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I won't be staying up too late because I have to be up for work at 4am. So I thought I'd stop in now to say hello.

I just found out a couple of hours ago that the Hospital I work for has decided to terminate the contract with one of the sites I work at. Luckily for me, I work most of my hours at the primary work site. But the site that was terminated was really convenient for me as it is just a couple miles up the road. I was supposed to start working 1/4 of my hours there starting in January. But, obviously now that won't be happening. I'm a little concerned because this is the 3rd contract in the past few weeks that has been terminated. And I'm a little irritated that I am finding this out "through the grapevine." (Although I did verify it - so I know it's not just a rumor.) I passed up an opportunity to put in for a full time job at another agency; if I had known that the hospital was going to downsize my division this much I would have definitely applied for the other job.

I am just thankful that I still have fulltime hours available to me. Unfortunately I have to drive an hour to and from work everyday. I was really looking forward to working close to home one day per week. Oh well. Here's to hoping that they don't completely eliminate my department.

This is so fascinating. People like Claus von Stauffenberg give us all our humanity. A man stepped up to do what he felt was needed to eliminate a monster knowing what the consequences would be if he failed.

To all my DIScon friends, I wish you and your family a very happy, healthy, and safe New Year!!!

an oldie but a goodie --

toon042407a.gif

Eeeewwww! (reminder to self - if you ever meet Sheryl Crow, do NOT shake hands!)

Debbie - Thanks for the quotes from Matthews and Olberman (aka Beavis and Butthead). :rotfl2: Those two are something else.:sad2:

Global warming doesn't appear to be happening here in Alaska (-31)...and snow in Vegas!

:scared1: Blestmom - Is that with or without a windchill? Only kidding. I assume that once the temperature hits below zero degrees, it really doesn't matter. Cold is cold.

Great news on your daughter's upcoming event Saturday! How exciting for her! Also, I am sorry to hear about your step-dad. I will keep him in my prayers.

Thanks, friends. He has to be on the phone for the conference call in 38 minutes; part of me is hoping they'll call him back to work and the other part of me is worried they won't.

Tink - I hope the call went well for your DH. I'll you and your family in my thoughts and prayers also.

He's not completely laid off so that's good. But he still doesn't get to go back to work until the end of next week and they're still only giving them 32 hours. :headache:
So that's 2 1/2 weeks with no pay. He said he's going to get a temporary second job and maybe file for unemployment. :headache:

We're having homemade pulled barbeque beef sandwiches for dinner tonight. Yum yum!

Here's a photo of us at DL at Pixie Hollow, L to R:
Me, BIL Jon, DS Robbie, DH, and SIL Valorie. It rained for three hours that morning so my hair was just awful the rest of the day. Spent 20 mins fixing it and it was pointless. LOL

The look on your DS' face is priceless! :)

Tell DH to apply for the unemployment. IF nothing else, throw it towards a CC or into savings. I just received my extension notice days after I cancelled. I'm glad I would have been able to get the extension, but really glad I don't need it now. UE isn't much, but it sure helped us get through a lot of months.

I know. I should've said EXCEPTIONALLY HOT!!!! :faint:

My favorite "young" Pitt movie are "A River Runs Through it" and "Legends of the Fall". Lucky for me, they're two of DH's favorite movies so I get my brad fix in quite regularily! We actually toyed with moving to Montana, years ago.
