I've seen those back home at the coffee shop...I'll see if they have anymore when I get home. They had a whole bunch of Palin stuff awhile ago...:goodvibes

Well, my trip has changed a bit. My step-dad has gotten ill while we've been here, so we are headed home early (tomorrow) instead of Saturday, so he can do what he needs to do.

wow...how scary! I'm sorry to hear all that - thanks for letting us know.

Here is the page at Sony with it.

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...0151&catalogId=10551&XID=F:reader:sony#/home/

It is really cool. It doesn't have wireless or a keyboard like the kindle, it has to be connected to a computer to download books. It is also smaller, lighter, about $100 cheaper but made of metal not plastic. Also the kindle is out of stock until some time in the spring I think. You can also download some third party software to enable it to pick up newsfeeds for free from all over the world. It is super easy to use and the screen is fantastic. I find myself picking it up more than I would a book.

It comes with 100 free downloads of classic books plus mine came with two Ian Flemming Bond books since mine is the James Bond edition.:cool1:

ughhh...I'm trying really hard NOT to fall in love with this latest in new gadgetry! I'm truly a paper/ink/booksmell sort of person but your enticing description is causing me to stray....

I've had a few "NEED" moments, but basically I've been fine! I haven't cheated since the first week cheat! Between me quitting, and DH, who quit smoking years ago but got hooked on nicorette finally quitting his nicorette habit, we paid cash for Christmas! WOOO HOOO no surprise bills!

:worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: You go, girl!

Hi, y'all--I'm a very loyal lurker on the Conservative threads since before the late lamented election, but never felt witty enough to post.

But--#1Hockeymom--it's my anniversary, too! Happy Anniversary! Ours is the 27th--we passed the "married longer than not" mark last year.

Anyway, you all have made me laugh, cry, and think a lot in the last few months! Thanks!

And P.S. all you Debbies: I will be at WDW the first week of February, too, to celebrate my birthday. I'll be on the look out for lime green Mickey heads;)

Welcome! We're a nice bunch and quite supportive. About your username, is this a son or daughter? Are they still in the US or are they overseas? We have lots of military families represented here.

And please forgive me if I've been intrusive...:flower3:

Just wanted to say "Hello" to the Conservative thread.
Im 38 and a Professional Firefighter/Medic. (another Republican Union member)
I am married and have 2 children 3 and 1 years of age. My wife is also a disney nut (but me mostly).
I am an optimist through and through. And, i will remain optimistic concerning our (the USA's) future despite the recent election loss.
I believe that in the end, we will prevail and regain our footing.
I am a Republican mostly because i believe the Republican party most represents the "core" principals that our founding fathers had and wanted this Nation to become.
i am also pro-life. and a Veteran of the USAF.
Yep, i STILL support G.W. and am hoping for a great candidate in '12
Regards,Shawn

I know, totally late, but hey, I've got kids...and I'm sick

Welcome :) Thank you for your service, both in the military and now. I'm married to a "lifer" Airman, and my BIL is a Fireman/EMT, so I know well the crap you must put up with on a daily basis.

Prayers to Blestmom's Step dad.

Vernors and chicken soup to JB! I know one of the Michigan Cons is a naysayer, but I'm here to tell you we haven't lost one person to the vernors cure!:)

Gosh, if this is what the NY Daily News thinks what hope has she got?
The "wheels of the bandwagon are coming off" and "fantasy is giving way to inescapable truth", he wrote. "That truth is that Kennedy is not ready for the job and doesn't deserve it. Somebody who loves her should tell her. Her quest is becoming a cringe-inducing experience, as painful to watch as it must be to endure."

I heard a few soundbites of her yesterday on SH's show (a fill in) and they were painful. The woman has a tough time forming a complete sentence.

I particularly find it interesting that now she is interested in a senate seat, but can't even be bothered to vote a majority of the time over the last decade or so, not voting in primaries or general elections at all more than the number of times she actually cast a ballot of any kind. Her response? "I'm not that pleased with my voting habits in the past but now I'll be doing better at getting out and voting".

whatever. I'm glad I don't live in NY. And what about her poor husband who has been shuffled off to obscurity so that she can bank on her famous maiden name instead, ditching her identity that she has demanded use of for years now?

==================
Thanks for the chicken soup...not so sure what you mean by the other. I've never heard of it before. Must be a northern thing :) I'll take whatever will make me feel better. I've been coughing, sneezing, congested, etc. for 5 days now and it is driving me insane. Of course, if I could rest it would probably speed things along...but I'm the mom so that doesn't happen. I love my DH more than anything else in the world but I have really wanted to strangle him the last couple of days. I haven't taken time off work because I dont have anymore time off available, so not only am I still getting up with Jacob at night, I'm working all day, then I come home and he takes off to hang out with his buddies for 4.5 hours yesterday literally minutes after I walk in the door, leaving me with 2 kids. I also had to do all the dishes because every pot and pan we own was dirty and I needed to make dinner....then when he comes home he has the audacity to ask me why I'm not taking a nap....like I can do that with dinner to make, laundry to fold, and a newborn and 6 yr old at home. I swear sometimes men just.dont.get.it.

/rant over.

I admit it. I made this my new computer wallpaper. I threatened DH that the squirrels would get him if he didn't stop hiding the remote in the comforter when he was getting ready for work this morning, and I've been having giggling fits about squirrels all morning...

BUT>> perhaps we can train them to be watch squirrels?

I need a new wallpaper for my desktop at work. I had a cute ladybug one prior to Christmas, and now that Christmas is over I need something new. Anyone got something cool they are willing to share? I have dual widescreen monitors, one of which is turned to be long instead of wide so it will appear on both screens when it is locked down :) It's a weird setup I know but I work out of 2 software programs simultaneously and I have to be able to see at least 3 windows at the same time, otherwise I spend all day toggling. At least my company realized that and sprung for double monitors for everyone in my dept. Makes it nice too, because I can work and have DIS up in the background on only one side.

OK WHERE IS EVERYONE THIS MORNING??!?

Just kidding...sort of. I'm at work and don't feel like doing anything. Y'all are supposed to keep me entertained, didn't you know that?? :) I've already been here 3.5 hours but it's only 830 in the morning.

Well I'm working at home for the first time in a long time. More time to surf the DIS! :thumbsup2 Of course, it's costing me a bloody fortune today - our gas furnace went kaput yesterday morning and we are now getting a brand spanking new one (and a new AC unit). Oh well, we were going to get one in the Spring anyway. It's only money, right? :)

I bought Jack a SpongeBob sweater for a souvenir. I'll have to take a picture to show you when I get home! :rotfl2:

I never realized the power of SpongeBob until I had grandchildren. He is the best!

Thanks for the link. I also like to wait for the discounted prices on calendars.

Yeah, that's who I would want in the Senate representing me - someone who couldn't even bother to get out and vote in the past, but promises to do so in the future. I think her chances are dwindling every time she opens her mouth.

:rotfl2: My grandkids (especially the 2-year old) are fascinated by squirrels and we have plenty of squirrels in our backyard to entertain the kids.

ughhh...I'm trying really hard NOT to fall in love with this latest in new gadgetry! I'm truly a paper/ink/booksmell sort of person but your enticing description is causing me to stray....

I know what you mean about liking having the book in your hand, I am like that to. My wife even kids me because I HATE paperbacks, they have to be hard covers or I won't even pick them up! She says that I am a book snob.:snooty:

I do have to say that the E-ink technology that E-books use is really cool. It looks really close to what paper is and is easy on the eyes. Plus you can actually have hundreds of books right at your fingertips and a lot of libraries are loaning out the electronic version of books right from there websites. I haven't tried doing it yet but I read about it at http://www.mobileread.com/forums/ .

Besides being a sucker for technology and gadgets, I hate that I have a closet full of books. If I want to go back and read a book that I have read before, I have to go and dig it out of the pile of books in my closet. I rarely ever do this because it is a pain. Hopefully now if I want to go back and read a book, I will just have to go to the menu and select it!:cool1:

Don't know about the Kindle, but the Sony one displays pictures which look like etch a sketches since they are in shades of black and white, and plays MP3's over headphones so you can take music or audiobooks with you too. You can also read PDF files on it.

One drawback to electronic book readers is that you are stuck buying books from only their branded store. You can't buy kindle books and play them on a Sony or vice-versa.

Anyway, I am having fun playing with my new toy!
