Hi, y'all--I'm a very loyal lurker on the Conservative threads since before the late lamented election, but never felt witty enough to post.

But--#1Hockeymom--it's my anniversary, too! Happy Anniversary! Ours is the 27th--we passed the "married longer than not" mark last year.

Anyway, you all have made me laugh, cry, and think a lot in the last few months! Thanks!

And P.S. all you Debbies: I will be at WDW the first week of February, too, to celebrate my birthday. I'll be on the look out for lime green Mickey heads;)

Hi soldiersmom,

Welcome to the thread. Thanks for your soldier's service. :thumbsup2

Congrats on the Anniversary. We are nearing our 20th Anniversary next year.....where does the time go?

Hi everyone! :goodvibes

Congrats on all the new doggies - they are all so cute! :cutie:

Prayers for SD and blestmom's family.

Hello to those new to our thread! :goodvibes

Happy anniversary hockeymom! And congrats on being smoke free! :wizard:

I have been so busy with the 'afterbirth' of parties. And trying out my new baking skills. :thumbsup2

So..........

I've been hearing about Bristol Palin and Tripp on the news, congrats to her and her family!

But do they HAVE to throw in those drug charges for Levi's mother, everytime they talk about it?

OK WHERE IS EVERYONE THIS MORNING??!?

Just kidding...sort of. I'm at work and don't feel like doing anything. Y'all are supposed to keep me entertained, didn't you know that?? :) I've already been here 3.5 hours but it's only 830 in the morning.

I'm heading to the airport soon, to head home. Talk to everyone tomorrow!

Prayers to Blestmom's Step dad.

Vernors and chicken soup to JB! I know one of the Michigan Cons is a naysayer, but I'm here to tell you we haven't lost one person to the vernors cure!:)

Hey, quit talking about me. ;) I'm not so much a naysayer, just the fact that to this day, 30+ years later, I can't stomach the taste of Vernors because I was forced to drink it as a kid EVERY time I was sick.

I've seen those back home at the coffee shop...I'll see if they have anymore when I get home. They had a whole bunch of Palin stuff awhile ago...:goodvibes

Those would make some lovely belated Christmas gifts to your fellow Cons on this thread. I'll pm you my address. :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

Gosh, if this is what the NY Daily News thinks what hope has she got?

Taken from today's Daily Telegraph article,

I heard some of the interview on the news this morning. It was embarrassing to say the least. Not only did she not have a clue as to how answer questions, she sounded drunk. NO, I'm not saying she was drunk, her words were slurred though. It may just be how she talks. :confused3 Regardless though, it was embarrassing.

She was going by Kennedy-Schlossberg, I guess it's not convenient for her anymore. :scratchin

I think someone need to throw the line out to her "You are no Jack Kennedy" :lmao:

I need a new wallpaper for my desktop at work. I had a cute ladybug one prior to Christmas, and now that Christmas is over I need something new. Anyone got something cool they are willing to share? I have dual widescreen monitors, one of which is turned to be long instead of wide so it will appear on both screens when it is locked down :) It's a weird setup I know but I work out of 2 software programs simultaneously and I have to be able to see at least 3 windows at the same time, otherwise I spend all day toggling. At least my company realized that and sprung for double monitors for everyone in my dept. Makes it nice too, because I can work and have DIS up in the background on only one side.

I just recently changed my wallpaper to this:

I know what you mean about liking having the book in your hand, I am like that to. My wife even kids me because I HATE paperbacks, they have to be hard covers or I won't even pick them up! She says that I am a book snob.:snooty:

I do have to say that the E-ink technology that E-books use is really cool. It looks really close to what paper is and is easy on the eyes. Plus you can actually have hundreds of books right at your fingertips and a lot of libraries are loaning out the electronic version of books right from there websites. I haven't tried doing it yet but I read about it at http://www.mobileread.com/forums/ .

Besides being a sucker for technology and gadgets, I hate that I have a closet full of books. If I want to go back and read a book that I have read before, I have to go and dig it out of the pile of books in my closet. I rarely ever do this because it is a pain. Hopefully now if I want to go back and read a book, I will just have to go to the menu and select it!:cool1:

Don't know about the Kindle, but the Sony one displays pictures which look like etch a sketches since they are in shades of black and white, and plays MP3's over headphones so you can take music or audiobooks with you too. You can also read PDF files on it.

One drawback to electronic book readers is that you are stuck buying books from only their branded store. You can't buy kindle books and play them on a Sony or vice-versa.

Anyway, I am having fun playing with my new toy!
You should see my room AND my closet. PACKED with books! I have mostly paperback, but on occasion I do treat myself to a hardback.:goodvibes I am going to seriously have to get one of these Sony things. That would definitely be easier than carrying a bunch of books with me!:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Soooo... we were on page 2. Not a good thing.;)

I second that!!:thumbsup2

My desktop wallpaper is that "Glenn Beck Island" pic from Humphrey Bear's sig. It's tiled on my desktop about a hundred times.:lmao:

[Welcome! We're a nice bunch and quite supportive. About your username, is this a son or daughter? Are they still in the US or are they overseas? We have lots of military families represented here.

My son was in Iraq 2005-2006, but he's home now, and just in the Reserves. And yep, it feels very comfortable and welcoming here with the military families, and the support of everyone else.

There's nothing small about that, either :) Most of our deployed service men/women are reservists.

What branch is your son?

MM, Hil, and ward... if my garbage cans land in your yard due to these winds, please return them! Man, you'd think the winds would end sometime! Now the world looks all ugly. Yesterday I said to DH as we drove home from hockey looking at the bleakness, "I guess we start winter over now?" It was nice getting rid of all that snow... but now its sooo ugly!

I know! Everytime we go outside I feel the need to yell out for Auntie Em and Uncle Henry, lest they be lost to the twister.

My 6 year old thinks winter is over and it's now time for spring. How I wish! We'll be getting a fresh dumping tonight. At least fresh snow is pretty. It's just a soggy, muddy mess out there right now.

well, i $ee that illinoi$ ha$ a new $enator. i$n't that $well? roland burri$. :teeth:

I just looked him up on Wikpedia and to my great surprise I see that we were colleagues at one point! Never knowingly met the guy but he left Continental Illinois the year after I joined. Who would have thought it?

"it's a small world after all....it's....."

Good guh-RIEF you guys! We had a wind storm yesterday and my internet went down. Finally got it back at noon today and you guys have kept me busy catching up for an hour and a half! :lmao: You chatty cons. Oh and btw, no damage here from wind. One of my garbage can lids is MIA, but I'm sure I'll find it in the woods sooner or later when I decide to go looking for it.

Just wanted to say "Hello" to the Conservative thread.
Im 38 and a Professional Firefighter/Medic. (another Republican Union member)
I am married and have 2 children 3 and 1 years of age. My wife is also a disney nut (but me mostly).
I am an optimist through and through. And, i will remain optimistic concerning our (the USA's) future despite the recent election loss.
I believe that in the end, we will prevail and regain our footing.
I am a Republican mostly because i believe the Republican party most represents the "core" principals that our founding fathers had and wanted this Nation to become.
i am also pro-life. and a Veteran of the USAF.
Yep, i STILL support G.W. and am hoping for a great candidate in '12
Regards,Shawn

Hi, Shawn, and welcome ( I just had to back up and spell your name right...my son is Shaun :lmao: ).

Well welcome. :wave2:

Is is nice that our thread keeps growing with more Conservatives joining in.

I thought that there were no Republican union members.....at least that is what the mainstream media keeps telling me.

:rotfl2:

Shhhh, don't tell, but my husband was a Republican union member for twelve years.

That is one that I want to read to.

OK...OK...I'll get The War of the Worlds. No need to get violent.:rotfl: Also
#240:laughing:

I love Poe and Twain so will be getting those along with some HG Wells. I always wanted to read The Count of Monte Cristo so that is a given. Since I have 100 to get i am going to get some books and authors that I haven't read or didn't like in the past. I will even give Shakespeare another shot based on your recommendation. I just couldn't get into him in the past.

Thanks for so much good advice. I will take a look at all of them.

:thumbsup2

I immediately thought "Shakespeare" when you asked which classics you should download too. I LOVE Shakespeare. I didn't in high school, but in college I had a great (although terrifying and hard core) English teacher who took the time to explain all the old English terms to us, and translate the jokes when we didn't get them. Once you can understand what the heck is going on, it is really timeless, a bit bawdy sometimes, and wonderfully funny (or tragic, depending). It's amazing what a grasp Shakespeare had on human emotions, loyalties, etc...and how little those things have changed. One thing that is really helpful is to experience it as it was meant; acted, not read. I like the Kenneth Branagh renaissance films for that. I watch Much Ado About Nothing over and over. My next favorite is Henry V. Some day I REALLY want to make it down to Ashland OR for the Shakespeare Festival. It is expensive, and hard to find a hotel sometimes, but I think it would be as worth it to me as a trip to Disneyland (oh the sacrilege  ).

Hey we had those yesterday too. All the cans are accounted for...just the one missing lid.

Thanks. We're hoping it's a reaction to a medication he is on. If not, he's headed to the Mayo Clinic. We'll know more tomorrow.

I'm sorry, Deb. Prayers and positive thoughts.

JB111107--My son's in the Army. When I said "just" in the Reserves, I meant in the sense that instead of 24/7, it's "one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer"! He was in the 10th Mountain Division when he was deployed. We are very proud of him, but glad to have him safe for now.

I'm sitting in the Vegas airport, headed home. My step-dad isn't any better, so they are flying to the Mayo Clinic Thursday morning. Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers.

You know, through all these circumstances, I can see God's hand working things out for us...last-minute flight changes, rides to and from airports, so I am thankful for that.

Hi all. I come bearing bad news, so I really need your prayers and good thoughts. My mom was the family member I had been talking about. I didn't want to say who it was just because I didn't feel like talking about it. She got the call this morning, and she has breast cancer. On the good news front though, it is very small, non-invasive, and differentiated. The radiologist thinks she might not even need radiation, just surgery to remove it. I am really upset and worried (and we still don't know what the second area is), so please pray for me too. I know it could've been much worse though, so I am grateful and praying prayers of thanks right now. Please pray that they treat her fully and correctly. And on my end, please pray that the genetic factor doesn't come into play in my life and I don't get it as well. Thank y'all. Y'all have been a great help to me, and I'm going to need your support in the weeks ahead.

SD Im so sorry to hear this
If there is anything we can do, let us know
Both of you will be in my prayers

A Disney ticket question for my Disney friends...

Here's the scoop...

In 3 weeks, I'm taking my youngest three kids to Disney for 2 weeks. My oldest son can't go, because of college, and other son can't because of high school sports. I am getting myself an Annual Pass to get a room deal.

I was planning on getting the other kids 10-day Park Hoppers.

But...

My mom mentioned to me on this trip that she would like to try getting the whole family together next January in Disney, like the beginning of January. That way the college kids could go. So, if I got AP's for all of us, our tickets would be bought for next year.

But...

If I do that, and then can't find either frequent flyer tickets or other reasonable tickets, then I just don't know.

Either way it is a gamble...what would you do? I'm leaning towards getting the AP's just in case, and then that gives all four of us ultimate flexibility for this upcoming trip (2 days of travel, and 14 days at Disney).

Thought? Ideas? I just don't know...

:goodvibes
