Happy Anniversary! My birthday is Jan 4th. If it weren't for a BRAND spanking new job, I'd be in Disney with the rest of the Debbies! I need a Disney Fix bad, and I'm not afraid to meet new people! Some of my best friends started as net friends. Disney vacations fit in well with that sort of thing!

Wine flight= new glass of wine with each course to go with the course. I didn't order it. We just had a bottle, then kahlua/bailey's and coffee for dessert. Feeling good but not over the top. Dinner was fabulous! Even better that I'm on over forty days of not smoking so I have new taste buds!

Happy Anniversary
And big CONGRATS on the non smoking:cheer2:

A Disney ticket question for my Disney friends...

Here's the scoop...

In 3 weeks, I'm taking my youngest three kids to Disney for 2 weeks. My oldest son can't go, because of college, and other son can't because of high school sports. I am getting myself an Annual Pass to get a room deal.

I was planning on getting the other kids 10-day Park Hoppers.

But...

My mom mentioned to me on this trip that she would like to try getting the whole family together next January in Disney, like the beginning of January. That way the college kids could go. So, if I got AP's for all of us, our tickets would be bought for next year.

But...

If I do that, and then can't find either frequent flyer tickets or other reasonable tickets, then I just don't know.

Either way it is a gamble...what would you do? I'm leaning towards getting the AP's just in case, and then that gives all four of us ultimate flexibility for this upcoming trip (2 days of travel, and 14 days at Disney).

Thought? Ideas? I just don't know...

:goodvibes

OH GOODIE I HAVE AN OPINION!!!! i always get, and advise others to get, an annual pass. in fact, i go with the premium pass because it doesn't have any blockout dates. one just never knows when the opportunity will arise to visit wdw. it is expensive, but if you break down the actual value, including meal and purchase discounts, over two trips, it is a great deal. you can also register at the disney annual passholder site for information on ap discounts on hotel rooms, events, etc.

when it comes to airfare, the ticket prices i have seen lately are fab. and if you go to the southwest site and download "ding" you will receive information on discounted flights beyond what you will find simply by going to their site. as a for instance, one of the "ding" prices today would allow me to fly to the airport nearest disneyland for $41 each way, provided i fly between january 11 and january 29. that's less than if i were to waste my time driving.

:wizard:

update: i just realized you obviously know all about the annual passes, but i think it is a great deal for all family members if it is a possibility.

I agree with wonderlanne. :wizard:

Thanks...I'd love to get AP's...just didn't want to be foolish. :goodvibes

Unfortunately, airfare from Alaska can be tricky. We don't have access to the cheaper airlines and deals.

I figure it would cost $200 for each of the kids to upgrade them to AP's...so that is the amount I'm 'gambling' with ($600)

looks like the annual pass would be about $12 per person, per day, more than a park hopper (????? this doesn't seem right...i'll do the math again). but, with the food/shopping discount, you might make that up pretty quickly. or consider it a $12 per person, per day admission for the second trip.

i was just looking at the southwest site, after realizing that you're in alaska. doesn't look as though they go there, but they have just partnered with westjet(?)...do they fly into alaska?

Right, except that I have to get an AP for sure, for the room rate. So I could do all the food, shopping, etc. using that discount...right?

Unfortunately, no. In the past, we've always been able to find something but you just never know.

My daughter just said she likes my Disney friends...I should keep them! :goodvibes (She really wants me to get AP's all around!)

yup. i missed a few discounts last time i was there, so it is probably worth printing the list of discounts from the web site to carry with you. it is really nice to see how much you can save in a day. update: i should say that not EVERYBODY gives a discount...some of the restaurants, etc., but almost always we did get one. the list is online; i'll see if i can find it.

HA! i had a difficult time convincing the then-boyfriend to purchase a pass on one of last year's trips, but he was astonished how much could be saved, merely by presenting the pass at purchase time.

January 25-February 10.

I really would like to get the AP's all around, if you guys think it would be a good idea.

Well...our flight is being called, so I'll have to sign off until tomorrow. Bye!

President Bush to commission carrier named for George H.W. Bush

Call it the Pentagon's going-away present to the Bush family.

The Navy announced this afternoon that it will commission its newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier named for former President George H.W. Bush on Jan. 10. His son, President George W. Bush, will deliver the principal address at the commissioning of the USS GHW Bush at Naval Station Norfolk in southeastern Virginia -- ten days before the younger Bush leaves office.

Also participating in the ceremony: presidential sister Dorothy "Doro" Bush Koch, who will serve as ship sponsor for the carrier named for her father. It will be Doro Bush's job to give the traditional Navy order to "man our ship and bring her to life!"

Bush joined the Navy on his 18th birthday and served with distinction as a Naval aviator in the Pacific. He was the youngest aviator in the Navy when he earned his wings at age 19. He went on to earn the Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals.

Young Bush nearly died in September 1944 when his plane was hit by Japanese fire during an attack on installations near Chichi Jima. Photos of Bush's rescue at sea by the Navy submarine USS Finback became a staple of his later political campaigns.

The GHW Bush, with a crew of more than 5,500 Naval personnel, will be the last of ten Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. It was built at the Northrop Grumman shipyards in Newport News, Va., over the past five years, and towers 20 stories above water level. At 1,092 feet long, it is nearly as long as the Empire State Building is high. The Pentagon says that its two nuclear reactors are designed to provide"more than 20 years of continuous service without refueling."

First christened in 2006, the GHW Bush will be initially assigned to the U.S. Atlantic Fleet with a homeport of Norfolk.

Hmm... Looks like the race card is being played with Blogo's Senate appointment.

JB111107--My son's in the Army. When I said "just" in the Reserves, I meant in the sense that instead of 24/7, it's "one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer"! He was in the 10th Mountain Division when he was deployed. We are very proud of him, but glad to have him safe for now.

My husband is "just" in the Reserves, too. He's been in the Reserves for about a decade after serving 4 years active duty. These days there is no "just" about the Reserves. They are a vital part of the service and called upon more than ever for duty. I'm sure you are very proud of him :goodvibes

Welcome to our thread. Glad to have another military family here!

My high school math teacher was (still is) in the Reserves. He spent quite a bit of time overseas in Kuwait last year (explains the gaps in my math education).:)

"I will ask you to not hang and lynch the appointee as you try to castigate the appointer," Rush said.

Some people have no shame in making such accusations.:rolleyes2

absurd. burris seems to be decently qualified for the position, and i'll bet illinois would vote him into the senate if he were running. leave it to bobby rush to make it look like a race issue rather than an issue of an accused governor making an appointment. jesse white, who would need to certify the appointment, is also black, and he has indicated he won't certify. it negates rush's argument.
