Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

hi. resident athiest there. i respect everybody's religion, christmas trees, saying "under god" in the pledge of allegience. I believe this country was founded upon Christian beliefs and people throughout the world need to accept and respect that. however, i don't want a president who puts God first in running this country. i want a president who puts our constitution first in running this country. if the president's belief in God guides him, all the better. but our constitution comes first in running the country.

Fair enough-because the Constitution guarantees Freedom FOR Religion, not Freedom FROM Religion. :)

I had a very good pastor when I was growing up who went to Lakeland, then to Bradenton to pastor a church. I don't know if he is still down there or not, he was with a non-denominational church last time I heard from him. His name is Mike Hailey. I wish I could remember the name of his church but I can't at the moment :(

Oooo, I'll google thanks! If you remember let me know. :thumbsup2

Yes! "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." It doesn't say anything about a complete "separation of church and state." But this seems to get twisted all the time to mean that nothing with religious significance should be displayed on government-owned property. I just don't see that written in the Contitution.

I won't argue with that!

Constitution first is cool with me! :thumbsup2 I like this for our President because he will be the one appointing the SC justices. :cool2:

yeah, but now we have 4 years of a President appointing justices that may not be so cool.

the people also have the freedom to impeach. only sorta worked last time, but there's no harm in trying again.

i'm ready to put the articles of impeachment together myself.

(okay, all you starry-eyed liberals...put your dukes up! i'm ready! come blast me! but first, remember "we the people" have the right do do right. impeach the imposter, i say!)

Well, we kind of have to wait until he's sworn in and actually does something other than introduce all the people that used to work for Clinton.

I want a President who "answers to a higher authority" than the ACLU and the NEA and who thinks about the morality of the laws that he signs. That's all I'm really looking for. I think we're going to see very clearly what happens when people who don't put God first run this country in the next 4 years.

I just wanted to pop in and say that I believe both of the above views are quite compatible - in fact, I believe a true man/woman of God seeking the presidency would adhere to the constitution first and foremost.

One thing I read about SP that really impressed me - during her gubernatorial run, she made no bones about her views of same sex marriage - she was against it. In a debate before the election, she was asked if she might ever have to do anything as governor that would go against her Christian views. She said that allowing same sex civil unions/health benefits would be one example - she personally did not believe this was right. However, the AK constitution did allow this so she signed this into law [I know I'm missing something here but I hope you understand what I mean].

All that to say, she made a vow to uphold the Constitution and, as an elected official, she did uphold the Constitution in this one respect. However, as a Christian, she was vocal in her own personal belief against it.

I think if we were to have an upstanding, honorable POTUS who followed the Constitution, instead of special interest groups and the polls, we'd be doing pretty well. I'd love for him/her to be a Christian - but I don't know that he/she would have to be a Christian to do that.

i say we get those articles of impeachment ready now. then we're all set. 'cause i'm pretty certain he's already violating the constitution by means of his birth status.

Oh, and Debbie #3 and SM, I've been spending the bulk of my afternoon making those yummy somethings you both gave me recipes for. I cannot tell you how many DOZENS of Rolos and Kisses I've unwrapped - whew! That's a lot of foil!

But I've got goodies for my party tonight as well as some for my neighbors. I just hope they last until I can get them to my neighbors - they're awfully good.

Thanks again for those recipes - ever since I was summarily poo-pooed for my love of almond bark, I had been a little dubious about my pretzel dips [those are my mainstay for Christmas]. Now I can hold my chocolate-loving head up high.

Way OT...

...but this is what we've been doing this week. My daughter has been dancing in a Nutcracker show as the Sugar Plum Fairy at different schools around town. Her big shows are this weekend.

There is something about the sweetness of the chocolate, and the saltiness of the pretzel that is SO good!:goodvibes

Oh my gosh, I quoted almost every post since I last posted, so let's just say I agree with all of you on both sides of the religious mini debate there.

Von - very funny stuff about the Pope. Thanks for the laugh!

Is that your DD? WOW! I'm afraid to say "break a leg" because she's so perfectly graceful looking. Say whatever is appropriate from me!

I think it is nature's perfect food!

I'm taking the easy way out and dittoing most of what Swedish meatball has said and agreeing with the other Debbie saying its all compatible. I was thnking about the exact same example. You can have views while still being true to your job/constituents.

aww she's beautiful! I spent 16 years in dance, and I was competetive, but I was never EVER a ballerina. Tap was my stronger genre, but I adore ballet. If DH gets his AGR slot (keep y'alls prayers coming for that one-he goes before the board on the 18th) I can quit my job and this is one thing I plan to get myself back into. I miss dancing more than you know, plus I gotta get a few pounds off this short little body. I'd be happy (and likely off some of my meds) if I could drop 2 sizes, but 3 would be ideal:)
