Conservative Thread: U.S. Steele - Back In Business

Dubai sounds interesting. We had friends who taught in Saudi and once their kids reached a certain age, they were forced to ship them to boarding school in another country. Would Dubai do the same thing?

I'm not leaving without a fight either, but if they start to go to the National Security Force and mandatory indoctrination, er I mean community service - then I might leave.

The NSF is a slippery slope and historically I think we all know where that road leads. :scared1:

Dubai is very nice......but I simply don't like it's geographic location.....too close to potential trouble spots.

I live in Texas. We won't stand for the sort of nonsense that other regions might. I am pretty comfortable here.

I don't listen to Rush, either, only because I don't have radio signal in this house.

Mr Man, I'd pick Costa Rica (ooh, warm weather and the beach!) or Singapore. I was in Europe for 3 months and loved it, DH was there with his parents for 6 years and loved it. So you could do Norway.
Hopefully someday when I'm an Army officer I'll get stationed in Germany.

As for the email, he is a real law student and he did write that.:thumbsup2 Too bad we can't really offer that and do it.

Costa Rica is a gem. It is a 3 hr flight from Houston. We have vacationed there once (well DW and kids did, I had business in Brazil). I want to the Vacations by Disney trip there someday.

Singapore is my personal favorite. It is like Hawaii is to us Americans...but for the rest of the world.

Hey, did you guys all get the memo that if you gripe about the government, then it means you feel hopeless and are in a constant state of despair??:lmao: :rotfl2: Poor libs, they assume since they were so miserable the past eight years, then we are left with no other choice than to travel the same road that they did. They really don't get it.;)

Funny thing is, they sound just as miserable now.......after having "won"

Must be that whole glass half-empty/half-full thing.

Hapily, my glass is simply at half-capacity! :thumbsup2

They spend too much time worried about our opinions to really embrace their happiness. I also think that much of their joy is forced, because they wanted this so bad and now are spending a ton of energy convincing us, as well as themselves, that they are satisfied. Obama gave them a great new line to use also....."well, he inherited this mess, so I am very pleased and hopeful that he is doing the right thing." I suspect they will have to keep stroking each other a lot to maintain that united front. Some of them are already getting so lost in the weeds, and I waiver between feeling pity and amused. Mostly amused. :teeth:

OTOH, DW has been pressing me to accept an available transfer overseas for a few years and do the expat thing for a while. We lived in Europe for 7 years total and had a great time.

I can choose from Singapore, Dubai, Brazil, Korea (not frackin' likely) & Norway.

It would be a great experience for the boys to live and learn in another culture.

I am leaning towards Singapore but have been reluctant to pursue the transfer (I have parents in declining years and I would miss this time with them).

Regardless, it would only be for 2-3 years.........I dunno.....

My brother has been joking for years that he's going to school to become an ExPat (he's basically been majoring in languages.)

Isn't that depressing? :sad2:

Depressing, but I'll go too...

Well it has passed the house.

You're kidding...that was quick. Better get my hand ready... :rolleyes1

That's what I was thinking about Dubai, too. No thanks.

I've never been to Singapore but I've heard it's beautiful. And if it's HI to the rest of the world, I'd like to see it someday. So yeah, I guess I'd pick Singapore.

:thumbsup2 I love it, that, as the glow dissipates, they ramp up the ridicule and condescension they point at anyone with an idea that does not mesh with dear leader's. Personally, I see that as a psychological, protective defense. Unfortunately for them, merely calling the os stupid does not make it true.

Remember how the libs were lecturing people before 1/20/09 not to complain when the man hadn't even been given a chance to fail?? Well are we there yet, Dad?? Are we?? Huh?? Are we??:hyper:

This thought has been rolling around my mind for a couple days.

If the Rep were completely shut out of the writing of the bill then is that not taxation without representation?

I didn't trust Obama before the election but this closed door policy making is really causing me to fear what is happening in our government. How far will it go? Is it so far fetched to think that the country would be so divided and inflamed that it would come to, God Forbid, a country that is actually split? We have done it before with England. It could happen again if the people decide they won't take it anymore.
Scary thought, but I agree with you. I've been reading all of the biographies that my public library has on George Washington (I'm on book two now, out of three - isn't that pathetic - only 3 biographies of Washington in our library?) Okay, off tangent, but as I'm reading about the Revolutionary War, it truly seems like taxation without representation to me.

Someone needs to fight this.

thank goodness we still have the SC, at least for now...
For now. How long will that last?

I love that e-mail, Dolce. I passed it on to a friend who razzed me mercilessly during Bush's 8 years. I called it "the first of many to come in Operation Payback." I actually adore her and we enjoy the mutal teasing but I have to say after 8 years of it, there is a little evil piece of me that is going to enjoy givng her a taste of her own medicine. ;)
Be careful. I have a friend who has razzed me for years because I voted for Bush (never mind I voted for Clinton twice, but anyway...) and I happend to rip on her a couple of weeks ago. She hasn't talked with me since and I was very gentle in my teasing.

Libs can't take the teasing - be careful.
Well it has passed the house.
Please tell me no Republicans signed it again this time. I have had kids in the house all day, so I haven't been watching the news at all.

The irresponsible dems DIDN"T EVEN READ WHAT THEY VOTED ON!! Good, Lord!!! What a bunch of idiots.

 :sad2: :dance3:

They don't have to. Their messiah wants it and that's good enough for them.

:rotfl:

That vote didn't seem very bipartisan to me!:rolleyes1 Hmmm...here's to hoping the GOP has decided they are not going to roll over and let Obama rub their tummies.

:worship: oh please oh please:worship:

If it was just the two of us....DH would move to Costa Rica. It is beautiful!! Lots of fun too.

Yup. We are there. 3 weeks in and this administration has done nothing but screw up. For G-d's sake, they can't even find enough honest people to join their administration.

Amazing.

I unleashed in a couple of other threads.

Felt good.

Now, I am going to work on my touring plan for WDW (21 days and counting). :thumbsup2

Okay folks not a single Republican vote in the House. Let's just hope that the 3 in the Senate wake up before they vote, there is still a small bit of "hope" left.

Anyone know what the deal is with BO helping people who are facing foreclosure? Apparently another $50 billion:scared1: . Is that part of the spendulous or is that an additional $50 billion to help a bunch of really stupid people keep the homes that they chose to buy but can't afford?

Don't hold your breathe. The RINO's have been bought and paid for. They don't possess a conscience or backbone.

To be fair, it wasn't from a standing start.
The likes of Frank and Pelosi were already screwing up at warp speed when the new POTUS got there.

Well, this is true. But, President Obama just let those Democrat idiots in Congress run wild.

This leaves two possibilities:

1. President Obama is weak/inexperienced/not ready to hit the ground running and allowed himself to be run over by Congress.

2. President Obama is fine with what they are doing.

Either way, he loses much respect from me (of which there was precious little to begin with).

I'm so glad obama's election has saved us. Is the the change they hoped for?

This is depressing.

My father worked for Aramco when I was a little girl. We lived in Saudi for 5 1/2 years. We left 2 years before I was going to get shipped off to boarding school (7th grade was the last grade taught before you had to go elsewhere to continue your education). I was seriously bummed. I so wanted to go to Hawaii Prep :p

I will say this about living overseas, though. It definitely gives you a different perspective on what a privilege it is to be a United States citizen. I've seen first hand what it's like not to have the same freedoms we have here.
