No, I'm roused up now.

Was perusing Drudge. Did anyone see the report that the nonpartisan CBO is reporting how the stimulus will drain private capital in the long run and end up SHRINKING the GDP within the next decade?

Yeah, change, woohoo! Hope!

greta von susteren signed off last night iwth something like, "well, so much for hope."

:rotfl2:

G'morning! Mickey's PhilharMagic is open again so I'm off to go see it and ride HM and Space. Work is thankfully at 5pm.

You guys, on top of everything else going on - we really need to keep an eye on Russia. Don't forget how the Kremlin greeted the news of Obama elected the United States President:

They began moving missiles down towards Poland and have a bill to amend their "constitution" to allow Putin back into full power. For some reason, I don’t think they would have been so bold had it been McCain elected.

Russia rattles sabres in Obama’s direction
By Quentin Peel

Published: February 6 2009 17:20 | Last updated: February 6 2009 17:20

Russia may face a grim economic downturn but one would scarcely think so to judge by the sound of sabre-rattling emerging from the Kremlin. Unless, of course, it is intended as a domestic distraction from the gathering gloom.

The double-act of Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin has come up with a series of security initiatives that seem designed to provoke, or at least irritate, the new administration in Washington. Without even waiting to hear how President Barack Obama intends to conduct his relations with Moscow – something that Joe Biden, his vice-president, may well address on Saturday at the annual Munich Security Conference – the Russian leaders have thrown down the gauntlet.

First, they leaked details of naval and air bases to be established on the shores of the Black Sea in the breakaway Georgian province of Abkhazia, whose independence is recognised by Moscow alone. Then they signed an air defence treaty with the former Soviet republic of Belarus, apparently paving the way for an anti-missile defence system to counter one planned by the previous US administration across the border in Poland. Moscow appears to have persuaded the Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan to oust the US from its air base at Manas, outside Bishkek, in exchange for $2bn (€1.6bn, £1.4bn) in loans, and $150m in financial aid.

Russia and the former Soviet republics of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan – the so-called Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) – have agreed to form a “rapid reaction force” which is intended to be just as good as the equivalent force operated by the Nato alliance, according to President Medvedev.

Outside analysts are sceptical whether any of these moves amounts to a particularly effective military gesture but they are certainly intended to suggest that Russia is not rushing to embrace the new US administration.

The air defence deal with Belarus is on a par with Mr Medvedev’s announcement, on the day Mr Obama was elected, that Russian Iskander missiles would be sited in the Kaliningrad enclave to counter the US missile defence system. It appears to negate a subsequent conciliatory gesture from Moscow, saying those missiles would not be deployed if the US also held back.

As for the Abkhaz naval base, it may be intended as an insurance policy for the day when, or if, Russia is forced to vacate the existing base for its Black Sea fleet at Sevastopol in the Crimea, which is leased from Ukraine until 2017. Oksana Antonenko, senior fellow for Russia and Eurasia at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London, believes all the actions are part of a pattern, intended to provoke a US reaction, and give Russia more bargaining chips in negotiating a new relationship with Washington. “In Russia there has never been any euphoria about Obama as there has been in the rest of Europe,” she says. “Russia is still very mistrustful of the US, and Putin profoundly so.

“But there is an overwhelming view in Moscow now that the Americans are in decline and will be forced to negotiate with Russia from a position of weakness. They seem to expect all the concessions to come from Obama. It is very unrealistic.”

The response from Washington has been muted. Russia is simply not a high priority for the new president. Western analysts believe Russia’s production of Iskander missiles is not enough to base any significant numbers in Belarus as well as on its southern borders. As for the rapid reaction force, it is regarded with wry amusement in Brussels. None of Russia’s would-be allies wants to be used as a pawn in some muscle-flexing contest with Washington. Even Abkhazia is unhappy about becoming a vast military base for its neighbour.

So perhaps the entire operation is for domestic purposes. That way it might at least make sense.

Alright. How many pot-stirring threads have the liberals started out on the CB? I’ve now seen two within the past 12 hours. Didn't Webmaster Kathy previously come onto our thread and give us a warning about doing that? I'm not a report happy person - I've only reported two times in my DIS career thus far - and I had to really be pushed to go that far. My view is; I'm a big girl. I don't need to whine and complain to mommy or daddy every single time someone on here says something I disagree with -like a lot of people on this message board apparently do. But I’m thinking it would be fair if Webmaster Kathy issued them the same warning on their thread.

How do I know they're pot-stirring? I lurk on the lib's thread occasionally. I make no secret of that. We have our own resident lurkers – I’m one of theirs. They get riled up over there at a perceived offence from conservatives and then start a thread about it out on the main CB in order to fight with us about it. One thread, it was maybe the third post in, and a liberal flat-out posted; asking how many posts until someone (aka: a conservative) comes on being negative and hateful. They were expecting it. They were eagerly anticipating it. It had already been discussed on their thread that would happen should they post that article out on the main CB.

I still laugh that the first person who posted something that was their idea of “negative and hateful” (which wasn’t really) was a Democrat. They ignored the “Democrat” part and tuned it into a “Bashing Conservatives” thread.

It’s very seldom that we have a discussion on this thread about a topic that we know will rile up the left and then go and post it out on the CB. Normally we bring discussions of topics of what is currently going on out on the CB in here to discuss when we can’t take the liberals out there any longer.

The liberals have a tendency to discuss topics on their thread first, talk about how upset we’d be about it and then post it out on the main board – looking for a fight to prove them right that we’d be upset with said topic.

That's all. I just went out to see what was going on and the first thread I saw - a liberal pot-stirring thread.

Agreed.

On the stimulus note, it looks like Specter and Collins are lining up to be the Judases and allow this mess of a bill to pass. Specter himself said it's a bad bill, but hey, we gotta do something! Oh please.

These two RINOs sicken me. If ever there was a time to stick together, this was it. Even McCain isn't behind this, and he loves stabbing conservatives in the back! Yes, you have to do something, but junk spending is not it. Here's hoping to a Republican with some fiscal sense running against them in a primary when they're each up for reelection. McConnell ought to get them both in a room right now and chew them out, IMO. This isn't about being partisan, this is about recognizing the fact that doing something wrong just to do something is both stupid and immoral when you're talking about this kind of money.

Specter's email inbox is supposedly full, but people are suggesting we email Steele at the RNC and tell him we want two people who practice fiscal responsibility running in a primary for the nomination for those two seats come re-election year if they dare to vote for this travesty. Good idea, IMO.

The RINO that sickens me (well, let's face it they all do;)) is Voinovich and the last I heard, HE isn't even biting.

Last night I saw an ad on tv that targeted seniors for fearmongering. They wanted them to call Voinovich and tell him to vote for the bill. :sad2: Disgusting!

BTW, my favorite old musical is Brigadoon.

Everytime a liberal accuses - it's because it's something they would do or have done themselves. Sometimes it's entertaining to see how low libs will go in their accusations;)

Wow. You guys were crazy busy tonight - and were invaded it looks...

Yeah, that post was started by one of our resident lurkers. She didn't like the reports on this thread about all of the USS Cole family members PO'd at Obama so she probably found the one, and only, person who decided Obama's doing good in this in order to thumb her nose at us. Doubtful that thread would have been started if we weren't talking about the same subject on this thread.

Should we report it for pot-stirring?

Wow, a couple of you (breezy) hit a nerve with PR tonight to pull him into this thread. Could it be that he realizes that he's in denial that Obama is showing some sympathy for terrorist?

Well, actually, the entire left shows more sympathy for those terrorist then they do – say, an unborn child that the mother wishes to kill. But hey.. that’s our messed-up society.

It's those darn double standards. Again.

:lmao: You're on a roll SM.

I seriously doubt that the school construction would see much of any of it should it be left in the bill. This money will be just as badly mismanaged as the last bailout. Why? Despite the fact that Pelosi keeps lying and blaming the Bush Administration for the poor accountability of the last handout; it was never Bush in charge of that money. It was Pelosi and Congress in control. And guess who's in charge of this money? Pelosi and Congress.

But Bush will somehow still get the blame.

I'm sure.

She's already been called on it by one of us. So, go away (.. oh, yay, you did)

Then do yourself a favor; stop lurking. You won't agree with anything said on this thread. You can't; you voted for Obama. We despise what the man is currently (and in only two weeks) doing to this country. He's setting the stage for another terrorst attack. We despise the fact that the man so brazenly lied about everything and embarrassed this country with his arrogance and you guys fell for it all. He stands for everything America isn't. He's socialist. America was never made to be that way. He will destroy this country and people, like you, are letting him. Stop lurking. You'll never see our viewpoint; we'll never see yours.

Good point. I think PR said something about it being on the other side now in relation to Bush and Obama. He was talking from a lib's point of view but I think that he and his friends need to heed his advice. I wasn't a Bush supporter these last seven years but the left has given that man you know what. They've mocked him, ridiculed, cried for his imprisonment; wished him dead. For eight years they've done that. Now they can't take the heat when it's the other side that has issues with their choice.

:sad2: I am 100% against this bill.

Obama is arrogant and has to have media attention all the time. I considered Bush arrogant all of these years. I was wrong.

:thumbsup2 He was a good man.

Don't input logic when 99.9% of liberal prove to be illogical.

The comparisons that can be made - from the beginning of this election - between Obama and his plans and Hitler and Nazi Germany are beyond frightening. It makes me sick to my stomach that America allowed this man into office. They voted for skin color and not character. They accuse me of being a racist for not voting for him; I accuse them of being a racist for voting for him.

Hi L.A. :wave2: Welcome back.

Yeah, they probably have. They've done it before - they all have the number on speed dial by now. I figure this: If the SS didn't care one iota that an actual movie was made about killing GWB; they're not going to care that a woman on a Disney message board made a comment about Obama and Lincoln when Obama was the one trying to make himself out to be Lincoln.

I, mean, everyone knows how Lincoln ended. That'd be the last person I'd try to compare myself to - at least to the extent that Obama did. He was Lincoln obsessed during the inauguration.

Wonder- if you're going to talk like that; you need to move to Texas. You're in the land of the liberals. Here, in Texas, we like our guns and wouldn't think twice about your comment. Those liberals, however, can't take it and have probably already called out a SWAT team on you.

:faint: Who would have thought.

Oh, and they were whining the other day that we weren't giving Obama a chance and that they waited until Bush had been in office for awhile before hating him.

Right.

I bet if we can pull up posts from the week of the 2001 inauguration, we'd see an entirely different story.
Dolce speaks for me.

Hey, I thought a poster W. O. W. was L. A., but now I'm thinking this one is too. Oh what fun to have multiple personalities.

I had said that I would post these yesterday.

Yeah... well..

You may have seen some - or all - of them before; but these were US political jokes published in Australia. So, if the lurkers don't like them - blame Australia.

(hey! that was kind of fun blaming someone else for something. no wonder the lib's like to do it so much :teeth:)

And Charade? I have a feeling that this is the Australian political cartoon that you based a previous sig on - the one that caused a poster to follow you around the CB and give you flack for

The cartoon with the knife in the back made me cry.

No, I'm roused up now.

Gah. I feel the need to start selling stuff and stocking up on the pantry.

Not the news I wanted to wake up to in the morning.

DH and I have never been on the same side when it comes to politics. Actually, let me rephrase that - he just doesn't care. He takes the MSM at face value and thinks the amount of reading I do is silly.

That being said, last night when he found out about the Cole news, he sat down and was dumbfounded. He said, "why is he doing this?" in total shock.

I know the libs think that we're nuts, wearing tin-foil hats, etc., but the people who don't pay attention to politics, who only get their news from Katie Couric or The View and pay more attention to sports and their extra-curricular activities than their government are now realizing that maybe electing him wasn't a good idea. When my husband, who pays no attention to the news starts to complain, it's eye-opening.

I had two people call me yesterday and ask me what was going on - asked me - of all people! (They both knew that I had volunteered for McCain this fall and one of them gave me a very hard time about it). One of them had never even heard of Gitmo. The other (who gave me a hard time in the fall) wanted to know how they could get involved and said, "I wish we had Bush back." His car has tons of anti-Bush bumper stickers.

I find that telling - I am not a Republican (voted Dem more often than Repub) and have never had a real interest in politics until March or April. Sure, I read the papers and watched the news and such, but I never had a true vested interest until last year.

Gah. I'm bad with words, but what I'm trying to say is that people who normally don't pay attention at all are starting to see the inconsistencies of this new administration.

:wave2: Hi everyone! I hope everyone is doing well and past any illness. The cooties have been running rampant around these parts. Every time I talk to someone, they're sick! I hate this time of year. We all need some summer. :beach:

I love soarins' pic of Space Mountain with the lights on! I need more pics like that. I need video. :hyper: I love that 'insider' stuff. Bring it on girl! :thumbsup2

Good Morning! Just got through reading my emails and I had one that had me LOL! Another Disser sent me a post from the OS thread. I could not stop laughing: seems he/she/whatever believed that my tongue-in-cheek post last night about creating my own version of the thought police took it personal. Obviously, he/she/whatever did not read my other posts commenting on how immature, puerile nonsense was not my game plan (although it appears to be others'). That is why I never call the OS derogatory names: politicians, yes, they deserve it; people with ideologies different than my own, no. Something interesting, though, based on what I was sent, he/she/whatever made a flippant comment, that, depending on the reader, might be construed in a very negative manner. Good grief, people, grow up (and quit lurking, it appears to be bad on your blood pressure)!

yes. the post we received a warning about pertained to the "salute to heroes" ball. there were very unpleasant accusations being made about the title of the thread, the original poster, and about everybody else's support of the thread. turns out the thread was accurately titled, but we received a warning on this thread for trolling.

that was the day i learned that trolling was more this

The thing that I have noticed with our liberal lurkers on this thread - they have selective reading skills.

They've attempted to do selective reading with me and Tink before. I just reposted what they decided to skip over and shook my head at them.

They want to complain and vent about us. They look for anything they perceive to be negative posted here in order to do so. They have proven over and over that they will take things stated on this thread out of context in order to feel ‘justified’ in their complaints of us. Sadly, it just illustrates that they do not know how to read properly.
