Confessions of a reluctant runner, a DL 1/2 & PHM PTR. 7/5 race recaps and final thoughts

Pace is really not important at all. Ever, really. All that matters is you are moving and especially at the start it is about time put in, and miles. I think you are doing fabulous!!!!

Okay thanks for the encouragement on that, Cynthia. I feel like I would die if I even attempted your pace!

I am not sure if I did! They are from Athleta, they are part of their "breathe free" line of knickers. I absolutely love them. I have 2 pairs, these and then a purple flowered one. What I like about them is that they are long enough to help avoid any chafing issues, they are super lights and soft, mesh in key areas (behind the knees) so they breathe super well and they have the best pockets every. One on each side, one in the back (zip) and a small interior waistband one. I like that they are not compression. I wear them for running but also have found they are my favorite gym/cross training pant/short.

For shorter and warmer runs I stick to shorts or skirts (and colder/wetter ones to capri's or tights) but these are definitely the workhorse of my line up.

They sound super comfortable and easy to run/workout in. I'll be checking that website out, thank you!

18 days!!!!

15!!!

Yeah, not fun when it tears

It felt like it wanted to...but didn't.

6 is way more than I could handle. I don't think I could do 3. I will carry 3 just in case though.

Well, I do have my blood sugar issues. Maybe that is why? Or may I am overly food motivated. :rotfl2: Seriously though... in regards to my blood sugar. The medication that I take that regulates my insulin... I always debate when I should take it in relation to a race.

I think I will be fine. There are certainly plenty of stops. If I want water at each stop, I will take it.

I think there will be plenty and you should be totally fine!

You are so funny, we are likely to finish around exactly the same time. C is a bit fast for both of us to be honest, we probably belong in D but I am happy with it! We should do pretty well on the beat the sun aspect I think. right now is not to far from when we would be finishing (give or take 15-30 min). It's 70 there but high humidity. Sun is barely up though! If that holds, it is doable for sure. Forecast is consistent through the 20th so have to hoo\pe it continues past that!

Funny/peculiar, yes? :rotfl: I know...even if you are a minute faster per mile than me it isn't like you are waiting that long... just 13 additional minutes. I highly doubt we would be more than that apart in our pace. I think C is good. I won't stress about being at the front of it or anything...but I still probably won't want to hang at the very back. What did you figure for numbers? like 900 people in our corral? Yeah... I don't want to have to fight with that many people ahead of us.

I think you will have a huge mix of run, run/walk and walkers in that group. I think the 2:30-2:45 folks should have been broken out as I believe they are probably running more than walking versus the 2:45-3:13 group.

I agree... those who finish in under 3 are still doing a good deal of running and possibly not stopping for any pics.

Apparently D was like this last year and they broke into kind of a D1 and D2. I hope they do that for this, or really all of the larger corrals and start it in 2 waves. That would work better.

I hope for all those who are in H... that they do this. It would work a LOT better!

I wouldn't go so far as to say wow. Wow would be not taking all the breaks. LOL!

Well.. yes... wow! If you had taken no breaks imagine what your pace would have been.

I had no idea you had been sick! Don't over do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It started that day after I was done with the 14 miler. My stomach felt off. Then the two mid week runs I had a threatening stomach the entire run. (even having to stop a couple times for a bio break) I had a hard time eating all week because I felt so nauseous. If I were not old I would have worried about certain things. :rolleyes1 Friday night was as bad if not worse than it had been all week. Then saturday morning it all just stopped and I was fine. :confused3:confused3

Yeah, we will see. Right now it really looks like Sunday works better. I will play it by ear but ideally that is when I do it and, bleh, early. I may change my mind though. I just do not love the idea of getting up early on Sat to do it.

Well, I am sure no matter what you choose you will make it work. :goodvibes

In 18 days I leave on my trip

In 16 days I am going to run through a castle

16 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAH!

:scared1:

Not quite. I think we are now we are at 18 days till the race.

Last week, I was here:
  • JG Finish Upright. Total time: 13.5 hours + long run miles 85.5 (+ 6 magic miles)
  • JG Time Improvement. Total time: 20.25 hours + long run miles: 93.84
  • My plan. 17.65 hours + long run miles: 107.45
  • Total actual time to date: 15.82 hours + long run miles: 100.22
One week later I am here
  • JG Finish Upright. Total time: 13.5 hours + long run miles 85.5 (+ 6 magic miles)
  • JG Time Improvement. Total time: 20.25 hours + long run miles: 93.84
  • My plan. 19.07 hours + long run miles: 113.45
  • Total actual time to date: 16.87 hours + long run miles: 103.03

Yeah.
Not impressive numbers at all! Still within my own weird hybrid range of being somewhere but pretty far off of my personal plan.

Well, it isn't like you are not doing anything! I think you are where you need to be.

I wasn't exactly a bum though.

EXACTLY!

Wendesay: Ran 4.7. 9:49 pace, not great. It was 80 degrees out though!

Oh my! I think if I ran when it was 80 out and I managed almost 5 miles with a 9:49 pace I would think it was AWESOME! You are doing great!!!!

[/qutoe]

LOVE the new shoes!!!

Came home, saw them next to the old ones and they looked really wide.

Looked inside the box.

My normal size is a 7.5. I had ordered a 8

These were an 8.5!

The box was right

The invoice was right

The shoes, not so much.

WAH!!!!!

:sad2:

Not loving that the wrong sized arrived!!! BOOOO

I called the store who quickly expedited a new pair. I was SO bummed, I had planned on wearing them that night. I did my normal run but I spent it being sad about the shoes. I am SURE that it why it was slow. LOL. Not that it was 80 out.
again... that is NOT slow. You should see my runs. :lmao:

Friday: I ran 2.1 miles. In my new shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In the correct size! I would have liked to run more but I had time constraints. It was hot out but it was what I had time for. I tried to do a tempo run given that I didn’t have much time. I managed a 8:48 pace and was quite happy with that. The shoes?

Yay for the correct size!!! And your pace :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: woooo!!! That is speedy! I can see why when you can do that you would think that your previous pace was slow. Course... not exactly an apples to apples. a 2 mile run and a 5 mile run.

Saturday: I hiked 11 miles. Eric was finishing a 50 mile hike with his scout troop and another parent and I hiked in to meet up with them on their last leg (and provide return transportation. This was actually a tough call. I had the opportunity for a free bib to run a 10k race on Sunday. I was REALLY tempted to do that. However, doing both was a bit much, even for me. At the end of the day Eric, and hiking, won out.

I think the hike was the right choice!!!! :thumbsup2

Check out the hike

I love all the pictures!!!

Those are some great shots!!!

During the week ran into a young man who just broke the record for hiking/running the Pacific Crest Trail. The PCT runs from Mexico to Canada. This young man did it in 53 days, shattering the record by 6 days. He put in 55-60 miles a day. I cannot comprehend the pace to get that done. He ran all the flat and downhill parts, and walked the uphill parts.

Today I listened to an interview with him. What an incredible accomplishment!

The boys were ahead of schedule, the other parent and I knew lunch wouldn't be there as soon as they were down and elected to finish our hike. I am SO glad I went, it was absolutely incredible.

I don't mind running some of the time.

I even like it occasionally

But hiking? Feeds my soul. In ways I cannot express.

You are really making me want to get back into it!

After the hike I met up with Jeff and Kendall for an outdoor alternative rock concert. They had been there since noon, once you went in you could not leave. K and her friend literally stood at the front, in the first row for 9 hours!!!! That is insane. Jeff and I sat on the lawn, ate, had a beer, enjoyed the sun. And the music. Well most of it. One bad band. The rest were pretty darn great! We have pretty eclectic music tastes and it was fun to see smaller up and coming alternative bands. It was a lot of fun. A long day for me!

Definitely good that you didn't take the bib too... that woudl have made for an even longer day!

I REALLY don't want to get up early on Saturday to run 14 miles. It will mess with the W/F/Su schedule.

However, that night is my 30th HS reunion. There is other stuff in the afternoon. I may REALLY not want to get up and run Sunday morning. Both days have morning time constraints, I'd have to run no later than 8 on Sat (which is my Sat wake up time!) or 7 on Sunday given things later in the day. While I "could"run Sat or Sun afternoon, both are supposed to be warm so the earlier the better. Right now we are actually hoping the weather is cooler and we run later on Sunday, around 10. That should be livable.

As nice as getting that last 14 miler in before the half would be, I am sure that should you cut it back or illuminate it you would still be fine for the half.

One
I bought our photopass! That always makes things seem more real.

:woohoo:

Two
MY HEADBAND ARRIVED!
It is so stinking cute I can hardly stand it

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Ya know, I had not even thought about how it is stiche/hawaii themed. Your outfit now is even more perfect!!!

Three
Not for this trip but still Disney race related, Ann and I (and Mary Ellen too!) have figured out our ADR plans for the PHM. Crazy to think the 180 day booking window is less than 2 weeks away!

:cool1::cool1:

I just can't fathom the amount of exercise that you do. That's why you are so fit and trim! I would absolutely die on an 11 mile hike, can't even imagine 50 miles or 50 days! :faint:

It's really coming up fast now!

Is that Mt. Rainier in the background of your pictures? Just curious. I was a teen last time I was in that part of the country. We definitely need to go back...just a gorgeous area. And you get to see it every day!

55-60 miles a day?! :faint: God bless that guy.

I had a friend who hiked the entire Appalachian Train (Georgia to Maine) one year. I think it took him about 6 months. God bless him, too. :rotfl:

I enjoy hiking if there's a point to it--like a waterfall or a spectacular view at the end of the trail. I can't take a walk just for the sake of walking. But at the same time, I get where you're coming from--there's something to getting outside, away from electronics and distraction.

I know! I remember when one of the female contestants did an acoustic version of it on American Idol and the judges slammed her for not taking the lyrics into consideration. Her version was so cute musically and really sounded great but was wrong on so many levels because of the lyrics. That's why I keep getting the words stuck in my head.
I totally remember that! And the most disturbing part was she really didn't get why people/judges (or really, it was mostly Harry lol) had issues with it. Like really really didn't get it.
I have worn the GT 2000 probably the most. I have had a few pairs of the Kayano's as well. I think theres a 3rd style I have used. My problem was I kept buying them too big because I was putting my insert OVER the shoe insert. Doh! When I tried both those on with the new insert (inserted properly) I just didn't like the feel. The Brooks felt better so I figured why not? I'm sure I will swing back to Asics in the future, but I figured now is a good time to experiment since I'm running more miles.
Oh my goodness! That totally makes sense then why the Brooks would feel better, it is a much more significant medial post I think and double inserts would probably approximate that in some way.
That's awesome! We have ocean and bay. That's pretty much it. I don't really consider the poconos mountains. :rotfl2:
We have lake and sound but the sound is too cold for real sunbathing or swimming, the ocean even more so (and a solid hour or more drive for "real" ocean).
Okay thanks for the encouragement on that, Cynthia. I feel like I would die if I even attempted your pace!
You are doing wonderfully! 40 minutes is quite a bit of time, as much as anyone needs I think. It will improve over time on its own. It is funny, I was being a little bit bummed as if I look at this month, compared to August of last year, my overall average pace is about the same. Except it really isn't. If I compare like runs to like runs (say under 3 miles, 3-6, 6-9 and then over 9) there is definite improvement in each category. Huge? No but it is still improvement.
They sound super comfortable and easy to run/workout in. I'll be checking that website out, thank you!
I am a huge fan, best part is their Love it or return for any reason policy. Which means wear it and if you don't like it, take it back No questions asked. I rarely do it but boy it is nice when you need to!
Yep! 15 till we leave, 17 till we run. YIKES!
Well, I do have my blood sugar issues. Maybe that is why? Or may I am overly food motivated. :rotfl2: Seriously though... in regards to my blood sugar. The medication that I take that regulates my insulin... I always debate when I should take it in relation to a race.
I think you should take your medication for sure and you eat the normal serving or suggested amount. I eat less (and get some flak for it in places but whatever).
I think there will be plenty and you should be totally fine!
I am not worried about water. :thumbsup2
I will NOT be a minute faster. Crazy talk. There are about 1000 in our corral.
I agree... those who finish in under 3 are still doing a good deal of running and possibly not stopping for any pics.
I hope they break up H
Well.. yes... wow! If you had taken no breaks imagine what your pace would have been. It started that day after I was done with the 14 miler. My stomach felt off. I am just glad you are fine!
Oh my! I think if I ran when it was 80 out and I managed almost 5 miles with a 9:49 pace I would think it was AWESOME! You are doing great!!!!
Eh. It wasn't all that much faster last night at 70 degrees. 76% humidty. BLEH! LOL. It was faster though so that is something I guess.
Yay for the correct size!!! And your pace :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: woooo!!! That is speedy! I can see why when you can do that you would think that your previous pace was slow. Course... not exactly an apples to apples. a 2 mile run and a 5 mile run.
Not remotely apples to apples lol! I am usually in the 9:10-9:30 range for a 4-5 mile run so when it is slower than that on a training run, not pushing it, it kinda bugs me. Not enough to run faster though that is for sure.
I think the hike was the right choice!!!! :thumbsup2 You are really making me want to get back into it!
It was and you should!
Definitely good that you didn't take the bib too... that woudl have made for an even longer day!
It would have been too much. We would have been able to transfer it, which is what made it appealing but it would have been too much.
As nice as getting that last 14 miler in before the half would be, I am sure that should you cut it back or illuminate it you would still be fine for the half.
As of now I am still planning to do it
:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Ya know, I had not even thought about how it is stiche/hawaii themed. Your outfit now is even more perfect!!!
Well the half isn't themed to that but certainly the kids race and 10k are!
I just can't fathom the amount of exercise that you do. That's why you are so fit and trim! I would absolutely die on an 11 mile hike, can't even imagine 50 miles or 50 days! :faint:
You would not die but it might not be terribly fun! This was obviously more than usual, in terms of time for sure. Generally speaking all we do is about 30-60 minutes a day, 5 times a week. I don't think that is excessive. Obviously these longer training runs are different but generally we are only putting in a total of 5 hours for the whole week, tops. And really, I only do any of it so I can eat and drink. LOL!
It's really coming up fast now!
It is, I will probably have a mini freak out after the last long run this weekend.
Is that Mt. Rainier in the background of your pictures? Just curious. I was a teen last time I was in that part of the country. We definitely need to go back...just a gorgeous area. And you get to see it every day!
Yes it is. That's an exceptionally good view of it and the weather could not have been better. Usually you don't see it like that from where we were. You can actually see it from my bedroom window and also from the lake we spend a lot of time at, but it's a lot more hidden because you are so much lower. The view of the Olympics can actually more spectacular from Seattle proper but it's all pretty darn amazing.
Is55-60 miles a day?! :faint: God bless that guy. I had a friend who hiked the entire Appalachian Train (Georgia to Maine) one year. I think it took him about 6 months. God bless him, too. :rotfl: I enjoy hiking if there's a point to it--like a waterfall or a spectacular view at the end of the trail. I can't take a walk just for the sake of walking. It has to have a point, or a payoff. Around here that could be a lake, a specific view, a treasure (remember the hike to the crashed B-52?) or a waterfall. Sometimes you can end up without the view if it's foggy or cloudy and that's a bummer. My first hike this season was like that. The view was good. But when really clear? It is unreal. We just got good that day. Sometimes though, just hiking through the woods, old growth or rainforest is magical enough on its own for me. Really depends on the trail. 55-60 a day? NO WAY. Or all that overnight camping either assisted or unassisted...no thanks. There is such a thing as too much solitude. Plus, I don't hike alone, I like the social aspect of it, I chatter a LOT as I hike. A solo man, probably 60, was hiking at the same time as we were. We kept passing him. Basically we would pass him, run into a group of our kids, give them snacks and chat and then start up again, pass him again, and so on. At one point we stopped at a vista he was at and chatted with him. He was a thru hiker, doing the whole trail. He was making fun of my non stop chatting as the other parent and I were hiking. It was pretty funny.

Love the shoes. Shame about the mix-up in size but it was good that the store expedited delivery of the size you ordered. Do you think you'll go back for the 7.5?

You're making me so envious with that gorgeous scenery and the walk you did. Love!

And yes. That headband is so stinkin' cute!

Now those are some colorful sneakers !!!

You can't miss them, that is for sure!

Not in this model, I actually think I may get a pair of my old style in the 8's as well and then rotate between the 2. Have not decided for sure, we will see how the weekend goes in these.

It is a wonderful store for customer service, it is why I shop there!

You're making me so envious with that gorgeous scenery and the walk you did. Love!

You would love it out here, I know you've done a lot of the west, have up been up this way?

And yes. That headband is so stinkin' cute!

:goodvibes I am very happy with it, definitely exceeded my expectations. Now to see if it stays on my head while running....

Thank you so much for sharing your running journey! From reading your other TPs, I didn't realize you have had so many struggles, mostly because I know that you and your family are pretty athletic. Of course, that doesn't mean a person would automatically have no issues, just that I thought you took to running just as much as your other fitness choices.

It's been really eye-opening to read about someone else's struggles, so I thank you for being so brave to discuss it with us here. I mentioned on your other TR that I ran my first half marathon without much training and was so sore, I could barely walk after. I now see how lucky I am! I didn't have a single blister or shin splint, no injuries, nothing. Just sore legs that went away after a few days. I'm definitely not bragging here, haha! It was dumb not to train. Reading your PTR has definitely taught me a good lesson not to push my luck!

Love that you found some shoes that work for you, especially after all trying out all of the other stuff. Yay!

Glad the new kicks are working. You are doing an amazing job with your training.

That hike scenery was spectacular!!!
Congrats to Eric for his hike.

You would love it out here, I know you've done a lot of the west, have up been up this way?

Yes. We have driven up towards Lassen, Shasta, Crater Lake, St Helens, Mt Ranier into Seattle. Stunning national parks! It's been quite a long time since we've been up your way.

I would never think of myself as athletic, or really the E's either. I guess to me "athletic" has always implied some kind of natural ability, grace and competitiveness that I don't think the 3 of us have, at all. Jeff and Kendall most certainly are and Taylor has the basic gift though he doesn't use it much. Athletic or not though I know that all of us have had different struggles as we attempt to do things, be it new things or things we have done for years. For me it is how you deal with those obstacles, whatever they are, that is important. Running is certainly not anything that I ever ever planned on doing. We just don't always get to pick our own plan! While the E's and I may not be naturally athletic, we do have commitment and a work ethic and that can compensate for a lot over time.

I feel lucky as well. I have had annoying issues but temporary ones. While they may be frustrating I know so many have have struggled with real pain and persevere. Educating yourself and training really does help mitigate, even if my husband thinks I take it to a ridiculous level. I know lots of folks that have done half without much training. I've seen how sore they were, and in some cases how sick they felt at the end, my sister on her last half could barely move and did not enjoy the rest of the day after her race. It most certainly can be done, just maybe not the most fun way to go about it.

T
Love that you found some shoes that work for you, especially after all trying out all of the other stuff. Yay!

Well I don't know that the really work any better than the old ones, the issue really is my feet, not the shoes, but it is a little early to really tell. I do like them though

Glad the new kicks are working. You are doing an amazing job with your training.

Thanks! Good days and bad days for sure

That hike scenery was spectacular!!!
Congrats to Eric for his hike.

It was incredible, so glad I went and I am very proud of him!

Yes. We have driven up towards Lassen, Shasta, Crater Lake, St Helens, Mt Ranier into Seattle. Stunning national parks! It's been quite a long time since we've been up your way.

Lots of spectacular places on that list! I've never been your way, Jeff has, but not I. Someday!!!

In 10 days I leave on my trip

In 12 days I am going to run through a castle

12 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GAH!

Last week, I was here:

  • JG Finish Upright. Total time: 13.5 hours + long run miles 85.5 (+ 6 magic miles)
  • JG Time Improvement. Total time: 20.25 hours + long run miles: 93.84
  • My plan. 19.07 hours + long run miles: 113.45

One week later I am here

  • JG Finish Upright. Total time: 15.5 hours + long run miles 103.5 (+ 6 magic miles)
  • JG Time Improvement. Total time: 22.25 hours + long run miles: 117.80
  • My plan. 20.49 hours + long run miles: 127.45
  • Total actual time to date: 18.44 hours + long run miles: 114.03

Still within my own weird hybrid range of being somewhere but off of my personal plan.

It was an interesting week

Monday: I did nothing.

Tuesday: Rest day. Not happy about the new piano location. LOL!

Wednesday: Ran 4.7 miles. 9:21 pace. Ok run, not great, not horrible, average. Humid which seems to be the norm. I did notice my left heel bothering me. I chafed it on my 11 mile hike, tore it open a bit on my Sunday run and it was not quite healed. It wasn't terribly pretty afterwards. The new shoes are just a little higher than the old and with the owie from my hiking Keens, not a good combo. I decided to get some new socks that would be higher.

Thursday. Went to the gym

And cancelled our membership. Which was very sad! We are changing gyms to a cheaper one, the reality is we don’t need the benefits at this one as the kids aren't doing swim, I am not taking classes anymore and the kids rarely use it themselves. It was kind of the end of an era though. We will be there through the end of the month. New one, is an old one, that we are going back to. If I really hate it I have 30 days to reinstate at the Y. We will see.

Friday. I ran 5.35 miles. 9:33 pace. I had failed utterly in my attempt to buy a higher cut sock that was my normal brand and style. They were not to be found in a store, only online. I ordered a pair. I think my regular ones will be ok, once my heel, heals. However I did not want to make it worse and since all my socks were either too low, or not for running (if high enough) I bought a new pair, different brand. Something you are not supposed to do this close to a race. They seemed ok. Weird as they were a bit more cushioned than I am used to but seemed ok. It was an ok run, humid again, nothing earth shattering for sure.

I tested out my Tiki headband and it worked great!:cool1::cool1:

Saturday. we went to the gym. I also went and bought another pair of socks, just like the ones I had worn Friday as I didn't want to rip open my heel on the long run.

Saturday night was my HS reunion. Which was a ton of fun. But a bit of a late night.

Sunday. I was supposed to do 14 miles. I had a few time constraints, I had to get the kids to church by 9:40 and then be at my sisters by 2pm to sit with my dad for the afternoon. After the reunion, a run of 14 miles with a "done" time that would let me drop of the kids at 9:40 am was not my idea of a good time. I decided to run after I dropped them off. Which meant that with drive time, shower time after and then the time to drive to my sisters, I had a very specific window to work with

I wore the new socks.

It was hot

It was humid

And the reality, early in the run I kind of went "whatever". My attitude was exactly that. I didn't "need" to do 14 to prove to myself I can run 13.1. I had already done that. I did need to get some miles and some time in. I didn't much care about pace. So I ran accordingly. Which meant I did 8 miles at a halfway decent training long run pace and then walked/ran another 3 for a total of 11. It is a funny thing, the mental aspect of running. Mentally I was done at 8. Stopped, walked around at a park a bit, had a couple of sips of water and watched folks jumping in a lake. I was happy as a clam to just walk and run if/when I felt like it for the last 3 to get back to my car. My legs weren't tired, my body wasn't tired, physically I absolutely could have run. I just didn't feel the need to. Or really, want to. Completely mental. Combine the 2 and I did 11 miles in about 2 hours. Which I am fine with. The actual 8 I did "run" was at about a 10:30 pace, which is a fine long slow run pace for where I would like to be. And, the last half mile during the "walk" portion? I did turn it on and ran at 8:40. Plenty of gas in the tank, I just didn't feel like using it.

The socks though?

Not so fine.

I did protect the heel. All that added cushion though didn't breathe as well on a longer, hotter more humid outing and my trouble spots are not terribly happy.

Actually, they hurt

They don't look so good either.

Oh well.

I did jump in the lake when done.

And the headband, and race outfit, again did great!

The fuel thing?

Meh

As I was running later, I needed a little coffee to fuel the driving of kids to
church. I was good and only had a little. I figured I would try 2 of the new java gels that were lower in sugar instead.

They were

Meh

They didn’t disagree with me or anything but I can’t say they did anything special either.

30 minutes in I had a half shot block, at 60 minutes, the other half.

Whatever.

LOL!

That’s all I had. I wasn't interested in more.

Can you tell my head was NOT in the game?

I hope this isn't a bad sign for the race.

I don't think it is. I do not think the fuel had a THING to do with my performance, or lack thereof. A certain friend visiting may have but that is TMI.

I do think....

I'm just going back to real coffee for the race.

What will be, will be

Forget the sugar and extra carbs.

I think, dare I say, I am slightly burnt out.

I think

Dare I say

That running here tomorrow morning (and Friday and Sunday)

Just might help.

If nothing else, it will be heat training.

Even if I am slightly burnt out, and I may be, I don’t “think” it will impact me come race day. I hope not.

I can't say that I know that for sure.

I do know that I will either wear my old socks, or the new “just like the old but higher cut” socks.

Which will arrive literally the day before the race.

Or maybe I will buy a new pair of the "normal" ones, perhaps the elastic is going in the back?

Sigh.

I need to go to bed. It is Hawaii, it is gorgeous. It is only 6pm here. I am completely wiped out. I have a long 3 days coming up. And then you know what? I am NOT taking the Saturday flight home after a evening work thing on Friday. I just couldn't. I am going to spend Saturday enjoying that view. It won’t happen until then, other than working on the lanai (which doesn't suck, I admit). I will run here. Will it be all 3 times that I should? THAT remains to be seen. I will be wearing the "old" socks for all of them, unless I try to hit a store here on Thursday if tomorrow's run gives me issues in the old ones.

Somehow I don't think an IPA, truffle fries and wild mushroom flatbread is what they mean by carbo loading. And 12 days ahead of the race doesn't really count. :rotfl: But, those happy hour prices make it hard to say no. Good thing I will be tied up with work the next 3 nights and will not be tempted by it!

I swear I had a whole bunch of other trip related things to say but, apparently the 5 hours of shrieking 2 year old, the 5 year old who yanked on his tray and kicked my back for 5 hours and the 8 year old next to me who was alternately annoyed buy the younger ones behind her or trying to play with them (often hitting me in the process, though totally accidentally, she was a cutie) have rendered my brain incapable of much.

I may have to walk next door though before calling it a night.

I need a coffee cup for the morning.

Right?

Then again, that would require moving.

Sounds like an errand for another day.

As is that sunset. You know, the one I didn't see our last "real" trip here as a certain hotel blocked it? This time I am staying in that hotel. But not on the sunset side. :rotfl: That too, would require moving.

Enjoy Hawaii.

So.....have you got a sock you like?
More importantly....did you move the piano to a position you liked better??? ;)

Keep going. You're nearly there.

That view is just SO wonderful! :good vibes A nice reward for 5 hours of a shrieking child. :faint: or what that children? :faint: Major UGH and one of the reasons I never flew with my kids until they were 6 and 8. Out of pity for the other people on the plane. :rotfl2:

I know that burnt out feeling very well. That's one of the reasons why I scaled back on exercise years ago. I got burnt out and it wasn't fun. But you have a goal, you are physically and mentally prepared, and you will do just fine.

Today is a long run for me and I am off today after working Monday night, but here I sit on the couch DISing instead of stretching and lacing up my shoes. :sad1:

I hope you have a great business trip. Sorry your socks were a bummer! Enjoy running in beautiful Hawaii. :goodvibes

How did I miss Hawaii! Relax and enjoy it!

I can't believe how close you're getting. You are definitely going to kick booty on your run. The whole 'run through a castle' is all the motivation you need!

Enjoy Hawaii.

Well, it is a work trip but I hope to capture a few moments, like this mornings run.

So.....have you got a sock you like?

Mnn...piano....out of my house? No, not really.

LOL. His teacher moved..away from the wine bar. SO SAD! Not even a decent coffee shop near the new studio, makes it hard to kill time.

Keep going. You're nearly there.

Thanks!

The 5yr and 8yr were not much better than the 2yr. I suspect the 8 year old would have been fine without the littler ones behind her to distract her and bring her to their level lol. I have been there and frankly, there are things you can do within reason. They were trying, they were but honestly, not really at the level I think they should have. They were definitely worn out but you could tell...those 2 kids ran that family. The 2 year old in particular. But really that 5 year old acted 3 or 4, he was far too big for the 5 hours of tantrums he threw. I flew as early as 8 weeks. In all the times flying with the kids there were 2 "bad" ones I can think of, one for each E. And boy did I apologize like crazy and spend the entire flight trying to mitigate. Which they did not. I can promise you this much, no kid of mine would have gotten away with the tray antics like that, over and over. I felt like they both just kind of gave up at a certain point. The parents that is.

In practical terms I don't think I've done anything to the level of the actual running, or other, causing burn out. More just burnt out period, going non stop all the time. I didn't mind being out, just didn't feel like exerting myself much. LOL!

I am actually considering the spa on Saturday. Not in the budget but...might be a very good thing!

Today is a long run for me and I am off today after working Monday night, but here I sit on the couch DISing instead of stretching and lacing up my shoes. :sad1:

You don't even need to be training yet, I wouldn't worry about it at all. You are busy for your big bike ride, don't burn out on running now!

I hope you have a great business trip. Sorry your socks were a bummer! Enjoy running in beautiful Hawaii. :goodvibes

If you go early, it is lovely! Today was the earliest I have ever run in Hawaii and it was really nice. Amazing how fast that sun came up once it did.

How did I miss Hawaii! Relax and enjoy it!

Haven't really talked about it other than to day I had a work trip. I have another one after the DL half (to San Diego) and then after the cruise (to San Fran) so this is the kick off to my fall busy season at work. I should be able to relax on Saturday and am VERY much looking forward to it. I did catch up on sleep last night and feel much better for it. Now I can go deal with the office here!

I can't believe how close you're getting. You are definitely going to kick booty on your run. The whole 'run through a castle' is all the motivation you need!

I don't know about Kick Booty :lmao: but I hope it goes ok.

Enjoy your time in Hawaii. :goodvibes

Well it is work Kathy, so there will be that bit of torture involved but I am staying close to the new office which is SO much better than being down in Waikiki. That makes me happy and for much nicer solo evenings and early morning runs. I won't be able to pull this off for most of my work trips here so it is nice to be able to do it this time.
