Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

Hope - welcome to our beautiful state! I love RMNP.

Things to do in Colorado for vacation: You can go to the Aquarium, Elitches (use to be a 6 Flags amusement Park), Denver Zoo, Art museum, Natural History Museum, white water rafting, tubing down the river in Steamboat, see a concert at Red Rocks, go to the Hot Springs at Glenwood Springs, people really like to go to the 16th Street Mall downtown, Denver Botanical Gardens,. I really like Rocky Mountain National Park, outside is Estes Park where you can get great fresh Taffy, and have some cute shops!! I love to hike in RMNP.

Closer to the Springs you can go to Garden of the Gods, 7 Falls, Santa's Workshop, Pikes Peak (take the cog rail!), Cheyenne Mountain zoo, Olympic training Center.

Okay with the talk of restaurants, I love the Blue Parrot in Louisville. My SO doesn't like it, but I really like the homemade noodles! White Fence Farm is such a fun place to go to, I haven't been there in years. There is also another Italian place I like in Old Arvada, but I can't think of the name.

Excellent Italian restaurant up north is Pulcinella in Lafayette. Mario also has one in Ft. Collins and just opened one in Denver. 5280 rated it as one of the best Italian restaurants. It really is fabulous.

Mario (the owner) is from Italy. He works at Cisco during the day and opened the restaurant as his passion. It took off so well, he opened two more.

Great Italian food with the freshest ingredients. Really worth a try.

I also love RMNP.

How about alpine slides? Who loves those as much as I do? We hit Winter Park a couple of days every summer just ride that thing over and over! :rotfl:

For visitors who may not have seen one before, here's a video. Winter Park has the best and longest, but there's also one in Steamboat, Breckenridge, Purgatory and Heritage Square (close to Denver). Glenwood Springs has an alpine coaster that's the same idea, but on a roller coaster type track rather than a concrete chute.

Morning everyone ! One day closer to the weekend !

Mrs Toad I didn't realize we had so many alpine slides ! I have only been to the ones in Heritage Square and Winter Park !

We love the area up near Rocky Mountain National Park/Estes Park. My son at least once a year has a karate camp at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park and we get a cabin and do all kinds of fun things up there !

I've been reading the pizza recommendations, but I'd be interested in any local favorite restaurants.

a lot of chain restaurants.....would love to try some other mom and pop/locally owned restaurants.
I'm a big fan of Oskar Blues in Lyons. The food is great and so is the beer.

Anyone remember The Gemini on Wadsworth near 38th? We used to love that place.

Benedict's on Arapahoe Road is a great place for breakfast or brunch.

Wow, this thread took off. I posted a couple of days ago and just got back today and it took me pages to catch up.

One other good pizza place is Santoro's in Lone Tree. They also have great sandwiches and salads. For Mexican we like the Moose Hill Cantina on Colfax in Lakewood. It is a ways from Highlands Ranch but it is good!

I like Moose Hill, but I go to the one off Kipling near the bowling alley in Lakewood. I am an addict to cheese and they put on a ton of cheese!

So was anyone as suprised as I was that the Old Navy off Wadsworth and Crestline closed suddenly?

Here one day and gone the next. On top of that, it is already leased to a Vitamin Store. The old Comp USA will be a Sunflower Market. I know they have one by the Target on County Line. Never been though.

Another pizza place in North Denver is Carbone's. Mmmmm. Traditional Italian pizza that is rectangle.

not from what I've heard about the company as a whole. When did it close?? We were over that way last week (we get our movies from Best Buy and 101 Dalmations was released last week:goodvibes )

I have friends who swear by the produce section of Sunflower Market...we always are out by the Wadsworth Target (we are almost exactly the half way point between those 2 Targets) so I am more likely to try that Sunflower Market.

Does anybody else remember when all that was out in that area was Southwest Plaza?? My mom remembers when it was nothing....she learned how to drive out there:goodvibes . I remember when SW opened. Gawd I am feeling old today!!

I'm not in Colorado yet, but DH and I are moving to Thornton next week. :scared1:

I've been reading the pizza recommendations, but I'd be interested in any local favorite restaurants.

The access to RMNP and Estes is one of the reasons while we are going. DH and I both grew up in Washington State, and 4.5 years ago we moved to AZ for DH's job. We've been missing the "outdoors" and DH can't stand the heat down here anymore. We went to RMNP 2 years ago on vacation, but I sprained my ankle and so we didn't do as much as we wanted to.

Another Welcome here! What part of Thornton are you moving to?

Unfortunately I'm not from the Springs, but I do scrapbook! Anyone else here in Denver?

Me! When we were up finding an apartment, I had to make sure to go to Archivers because we don't have them here. And one of the crazy things I am most excited about is having Hobby Lobby. There is one here in AZ and it is a 50 minute drive. I only went when I would visit one of my scrapping friends. Now I just need to check out some local scrapbook stores. One of the things I am going to miss here is that my local scrapbook store (although it's a 20 min drive) is run by the same people that run Bazzill Basics Paper. Every shade available, plus a warehouse sale once a year.

Thanks for all the welcomes and tips and recommendations.

In 1991, my family took a vacation that went through Colorado, and so we did Mesa Verde, Durango & Silverton railroad, Pike's Peak (but not the rail), Garden of the Gods and the Air Force Academy. And a trip along the Phantom Canyon Rd. Then 2 years ago, DH and I took a vacation and we went to Mesa Verde and Durango. DH and I also went through Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Curecanti. I'm looking forward to doing more with DH.

Another Welcome here! What part of Thornton are you moving to?

Our apartment is near 120th and Colorado.

:confused3 Your feeling old????? Try this......we are original owners of our house. I remember HEARING cows around SW Plaza. No stoplights on Wadsworth past Hampden. Kipling was a two lane country road. We all wanted street lights because it was too dark on Kipling. Geez, what I would do to have that all over again!! Peace and quiet, well, except for the cows.:rotfl:

My DW loves Sunflower Market, though she usually goes to the one on Colorado Blvd. She also remembers driving out to SW Plaza when there was nothing but fields between there and downtown Littleton.

What type of store is Sunflower Market? I've never heard of it before.
