Colorado DISers ... where are you ?

Msslaydbug, while I appreciate the review, the contents are not family friendly at points. Do you mind editing out portions? Like the insult to Tom from the waiter?

Reading that with a kid beside me would make me squirm.

Thanks for sharing the Martino story about Grand Lux, Msslaydbug. Not good at all if it happened as he said it did. All it takes is one bad experience at a restaurant and the ole' word-of-mouth can really hurt your business.

So, other than snow, what can you not find in Florida that you used to enjoy in CO?

Decent Mexican food (there is nothing remotely close here), decent drivers and traffic (I am serious here!), Sam Taylor's (BBQ and cat fish nuggets anyone?), LoDo, being a major sports outlet as well as the main venue for concerts in the area (there is only the Orlando Magic in the area and many of the concerts seem to go to Miami, Tampa or Jacksonville).

There is actually quite a bit I miss. But I have a medical condition that makes the kind of cold you all get in Colorado completely intolerable for me. My parents still live there, so I can make visits back when the weather is good.

But oh boy, if I could relocate those mountains to right next to the beach I have here...I would be such a happy camper!

You know what??? After reading the Dr. Laura thread, what Tom Martino says is really nothing... Geesh. Sorry about that.

Hi,
I'd like to get some suggestions from those of you living in CO.
We are headed to your fair state (Denver area and Estes Park) for some camping this summer and would like some suggestions on things to see or stuff we shouldn't miss. Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks!

Maybe you need to arrange an exchange with Sandy V. She can send decent Mexican food in exchange for decent Cuban food. I assume that can be found in Florida.

It's a big state; can you narrow down where you'll be camping?

I found a recipe this week that included Coconut Milk - does anyone know where in the grocery store you find coconut milk ?! I asked a clerk and he had no idea !

I remember seeing it at Whole Foods in Belmar awhile back, but not sure exactly where in the store.

Yeah, MyManGoofy! I need my Cuban food fix!! :rotfl: I never knew how good that stuff was.

Denver and Estes Park areas.

Estes Park is beautiful......I am going out on a limb and say you aren't actually camping in Downtown Denver:rotfl: (sorry I am being a bit cheeky)

Do you have a cost limit?? There is a ton of stuff to do but we need Denver area narrowed down a bit more.

All of the posters here (other than the Colorado Springs posters) are in the Denver "area" so we know different parts of the area you are looking at.

Denver and Estes Park areas.
Camping in Rocky Mountain National Park? Great place. We would always stop for breakfast on our last day at a place just outside of downtown Estes Park on the RMNP side that, I think, was called The Big Horn Restaurant. After subsisting on whatever we could cook over a campfire, a hearty breakfast really hit the spot. If you haven't been to Estes Park before, there is tons of shopping on the main drag and you can tour The Stanley Hotel, inspiration for Stephen King's The Shining and site of the 2006 live Ghost Hunters Halloween Special.

estes park /rmnp area ROCKS!!!!!!

we go shopping up there every year, and actually stayed up there this x-mas.......BEEYOUTEEFULL

Oh my gosh, does anyone around here work? I had to catch up on like 4 or 5 pages just from YESTERDAY!!

Coconut milk-Whole Foods in Belmar

Pizza-definitely an Edgewater Inn fan. I like Fargo's in the Springs, more for the atmosphere and like my DD (PoohFriend#1) said, the sliced tomatoes. I don't know if it is still around but in North Denver there was a place called Carl's that was true Italian Pizza. You've never had pizza until you try it there!! It is/was owned by an Italian family and is/was in the part of town known as "little Italy".

Estes Park is a great place to visit. So much to see and do!

I'm not in Colorado yet, but DH and I are moving to Thornton next week. :scared1:

I've been reading the pizza recommendations, but I'd be interested in any local favorite restaurants.

The access to RMNP and Estes is one of the reasons while we are going. DH and I both grew up in Washington State, and 4.5 years ago we moved to AZ for DH's job. We've been missing the "outdoors" and DH can't stand the heat down here anymore. We went to RMNP 2 years ago on vacation, but I sprained my ankle and so we didn't do as much as we wanted to.

Hope, welcome to Colorado (a little early)!! RMNP is gorgeous. Make sure that you try and get to Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, too. My SIL lives in Thornton. Don't know of any restaurants up there, sorry.

Yes, welcome to Colorado. There are so many good restaurants in Denver, both chain and independent. Great Mexican, Good Italian, Great steak places.

As for Outdoors, Go NW, W or SW from Denver and there is some of the most amazing country in America. My favorite places are Estes Park/RMNP, Beuna Vista/Salida and the Sawatch Range. Maroon Bells by Aspen. All of the San Juans/Ouray/Telluride.

Of course, I live on the North Slope of Pikes Peak, surrounded by forest and have the Peak out my front window. There is a lot to offer. Unfortunately there's also a lot of people...

So sometimes I sneak back up to my old stomping grounds in Wyoming to get really alone. But on the whole, even with all the people, it's hard to beat Colorado!

Since Hope asked (welcome Hope!!) we have lots of favorite restaurants:lmao:

We love White Fence Farm
Jose's (here in Littleton)
Romano's

a lot of chain restaurants.....would love to try some other mom and pop/locally owned restaurants.

Here in the Springs I like Louie's Pizza.....

Mickey 02 ( I am her mom) took off for DW this morning.....we aren't going until April

Anyone from the Springs scrapbook?

Unfortunately I'm not from the Springs, but I do scrapbook! Anyone else here in Denver?
