Colonoscopy 2/3 day prep? UPDATE on page 4!

I have low blood sugar so going 24 hours without protein is difficult for me. Probably worse than the drink itself. All the protein drinks were red so couldn't do that. This last time, (they found blood in the home test), I had to do the ducolax and then drink half of the gallon of the go stuff. I had to drink the remaining half starting at 3am. Well, I tried the second half at 3am but got sick all over the hallway, said xxx on this and laid down on the sofa and fell asleep. (the sickness was from no food/protein so if you don't have that problem, it may not affect you that way). My biggest issue was a headache from no caffeine/coffee. The nurse told me that she drinks a lot of coffee like me so she drinks Mountain Dew (never thought of that). The other nurse told me it was okay to drink coffee. As many have said, once it turns yellow for awhile, you're probably good to have your procedure. I take a protein bar with me to eat on the way home.

The prep is great. It's basically a real cleansing:) Flushes everything out.
It kinda is. It’s not pleasant when it happens but afterwards you feel pretty good. I’m due after the first of the year. 5 years ago when I had my first one I used it to kick start a diet. Lost a little weight and felt pretty good.

It's like getting a massage. Hurts while you get it. But it feels great afterwards.

It's really not that easy for some. It (the prep) can cause vomiting and "disturbances" for days or weeks. My grandmother avoided colonoscopies for this reason She died from colon cancer.

I am waiting on an appointment for my first colonoscopy. I am very concerned about the prep. I already have functional diarrhea and missing a dose of my medication has laxative effect. I feel like I will be sleeping on the toilet the night before, as I can't imagine being able to get to the toilet quick enough.

Even if the worst happens and you don't make it, you just deal with it and move on honestly. I fixated on this part and even bought disposable diapers. I was convinced I'd have to sleep on the toilet and was even more worried about the drive to the appointment. I didn't need them and spent a lot of time worrying about it for nothing.

I also wanted to add that my grandmother is dying of colon cancer, which is such a shame. People avoid colonoscopies for their own reasons, but the temporary discomfort can end up saving your life.

Yep....my mother died of colon cancer. She was 59 years old. I go every 5 years to get mine done

My mom has not been able to successfully complete a prep yet. Every attempt has landed her in the ER. Her Dr. Is trying to get ins. to approve admitting her for the prep.
Her brother had colon cancer, so it is important.

I always feel great (I’ve had seven in the last 8 years). It’s the best nap ever!!!
I won't say I feel great, but I did tell dh and dd when I got up, it was the best nap ever. I am a terrible sleeper, and I fell right to sleep and had a great solid nap, it was awesome!

Best wishes for your Mom. Hopefully she can get approval or find a satisfactory alternative.

I required hospitalization for two or my many preps. Thankfully my Gastro has modified this so I can tolerate it. II'm very thankful colonoscopies are so widely available. They really do save lives.

What is your prep? Thank for sharing

I haven't had to have one yet - my turn is next year. My husband felt the same way as you - the prep kind of sucked, but he felt really good afterwards having everything cleaned out.

The prep was not pleasant. I did the split prep……1/2 the night before and then 1/2 the morning of (which for me was really early since I had the 1st appt of the day). I found that chewing on some ice chips between ”chugs” of the prep was helpful When I felt like I was going to gag. That being said, it’s a temporary annoyance for the peace of mind that your colon is clear (or finding cancer early and getting treatment!) so please, please get your colonoscopy as soon as you can. Many insurance companies are covering it starting at age 45 because some of the guidance has changed.

One prep I was prescribed was SUPREP Bowel Prep Kit. I almost did not finish it. I was worried I was not going to make my appointment the next morning. It was horrible. I don't remember what my first one was but it was tolerable too.

So my next test I was told to take 16 Dulcolax - 4 every few hours day before. I was a little worried I might end up with bad cramps in the ER but it turned out okay.

I heard SUPREP comes in tablet form. Has anyone tried them? I have another two years to go.
