what are you all doing for the summer?

I'm remembering the summer I worked on the assembly line at Estee Lauder. the plant didn't have air conditioning! but at least we got nice discounts on the product lines.

I have absolutely NO IDEA! Can you hook me up? ;)

Seriously, I need to start looking, but I'm leaving for Walt Disney World on Thursday morning. I figure it's better to put in applications when I get back then to have employers call me while I'm on vacation, what a great first impression.

going to disney on may 13..then coming back and working full time all summer..plus doing 1 summer class ...

wish I could help, Evil Princess. I think some of the camps are still taking applications, but they don't pay very well. in "the olden days" you had to know an Estee Lauder employee in order to get a summer job, but you could try there -- they closed the Bethpage plant (the one without air conditioning) but the Melville plant is alive and well.

I am going back to the boardwalk for my 7th year. I waitress and am assistant manager. Good times.

Will be spending my summer days working at Sam's Club, and looking for a teaching job! Hopefully, some trips to the beaches and casinos, and a lot of partying!

After going to Park Shore for seven years, I worked there for the following two.

They pay NOTHING, and as much as I like kids and I loved Park Shore, I couldn't deal with not making money.

Plus I'm going on a cruise the first week of August, and daycamps aren't flexible when it comes to time off.

Blueeyes101817- i am so jealous--- you will be in WDW for my birthday, I have to leave 4 days before it

I am trying to intern with Skidmore, Owengs, and Merrill Chicago

(they are the architecture firm responsible for, among other things, Sears Tower, Hancock Center, New SanFran Airport Terminal, and the engineering of the Guggenheim museum in Bilbao, Spain by Frank Gherry)

but didn't you realize you were supposed to live on the end-of-summer tips? I sent my kids to various camps like Park Shore for a number of years, after you pay $$$$ for 6-8 weeks of camp, you then have to tip all the counselors because you know that they don't get paid well.

I am not technically a college student anymore, I'm working on my masters, BUT...

my summer plans are SUMMER SCHOOL and working =) I get two weeks off, one of which will be spent in Florida, and then back to work!

=)

Yeah, I actually got more tips as a CIT and a Jr. Counselor than my Group Leader, which isn't what should happen. My girls loved me more and told their mothers so :)

But when the money comes in one lump sum at the end and not weekly or bi-weekly in a paycheck, it's kind of hard to live of off.

The tips are the only way that camps get away with paying such small amounts.

I'm not correcting you to be obnoxious but if you are applying to work at SOM it won't look very good if you don't spell their name correctly. It's Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Oh and it's Frank Gehry!

I figured I didn't need to check my spelling because I assumed most wouldn't really "get" what I was talking about :p

I say SOM or Gehry to my family and get met with  usually...

Nice to meet someone in the business though, I am still a student obviously.

It might be different for sleep away camp. These were daycamps where when you got to a certain age turned to travel camps. You weren't over night every single night.

I think I've got a busy summer ... unfortunately, it probably won't earn me a lot of money.

- travelling with the hockey team I worked with to finland, russia, and estonia
- helping my parents move
- working at the low-paying but easy job I've had since HS
- visiting my gf in MN (and hopefully being visited by her too, if we can work out schedules)
- working at another low-paying yet fun job for about 2 weeks

I'll be working 5 days a week at Hallmark (card shop) for the summer while taking 2 online summer classes. Let's hope I can manage it!

Tink

As a non tradiotional student.. I am working full time with family as well (as well as close to full time student-completed 18 credits in one year) I am also trying to take two (possibly three) classes as well.

I wont know my summer schedule for a few reasons.
1) My work (a school) closes on June 18th
2) I;m waiting for my husbands new work schedule

So as soon as I find that out, I can attempt to do things.

I may put in a waitressing application at Bahama Breeze. I also may work at some daycamps as well.

Since this is my last "real" summer, I'm going to spend as much time as I can traveling. I'll be in Greece for most of June (yay!), and when I come back I'm going to Las Vegas, WDW with a close friend who's never been, and also going to Atlanta and Washington D.C.

I'm also taking a couple of online classes for summer school, and if I have time, I'll pick up some seasonal hours at WDW.
