Thank you for posting the map.

Unfortunately, the changes in Future World look pretty drastic. For such a huge space, there are very, very few DSAs. It was so nice having so many before, because often DW could find a place to sit down. Looks like that's a thing of the past.

And we're sad about the loss of the one in UK, too. That was a great, relaxing place. Now there is a huge gap between the one at the IG and the one on the far side of the Refreshment Port.

Oh, Disney. :sad2: You've got to stop eliminating the things that made your guests happy. I know only a minority of guests smoke, and I know only a minority wanted Figaro Fries with tomato and lettuce, and I know only a minority wanted the Starboard Deck sandwich, and only a minority wanted the more unusual preparations made by your chefs and bartenders, etc. But it seems to me that a majority of your customers was affected by at least one of your recent decisions.

With the economy as it is, how much pushing from you do you think it will take to convince them to stay home?

I have to agree. We've found that trying to adhere to the rules at the resorts and running back and forth to the DSA's wherever we're staying has seriously cut into our park time (it seems to take forever to get away from our hotel). Now looking at this map I see that trekking around to the DSA's at Epcot will cut into our time at least in that park. That's a long walk between the IG and the Refreshment Port! I wish the DSA's were more plentiful all around WDW.

Is that the one where you could see the fountain? I loved that one.

That's the one. DW and I loved that one, too. There was usually seating available, and the view was great.

It appears there are no more smoking areas in the center of Future World. It looks like you have to cross Innoventions to get to one now.

Went to WDW for the first time with my family over 4th of July week. I am the only smoker and was more than a little concerned about finding DSA's (I think my DW was a little concerned too, I can get a little cranky if I go without for too long  ). But with using the maps I really did not have a problem, sometimes they were a little spread out but not a big issue.
The only problem I had with DSA's in the parks was people with young kids/babies smoking next to them. It made me really uncomfortable and I would usually leave or just find another DSA. But that's just me, not trying to be judgemental.
Also stayed at WL and we were on the 5th floor near the elevator near roaring forks so it was really just a short walk to the Trout Pass DSA. And when we were leaving for the bus or boat I would just go a little early and have a smoke and the family could meet me on thier way!:woohoo:

Thank you for taking the time to post a report! It's always great to hear what things are like on the ground -- especially over a busy period like 4th of July.

Oh, and as for Wilderness Lodge -- isn't that great? No matter where you are in that resort, it seems very easy to get anywhere else. Love it! :thumbsup2

I just found out that the tsa and my airline allows the standard bic lighter in your carry on. It also said only one book of matches per person. Does anyone know if they sell lighters at the resorts or parks? I know last time I flew trying to get matches in and around the world was difficult at times. I just don't remember ever seeing lighters sold anywhere:confused3

Thanks in advance for your help. My trip is getting close and my list of things to do seems to be getting longer:yay: :scared1: :yay:

Stick the Bic lighter in your pocket and the TSA will never know. There isn't enough metal in it to set off the machine.

Even when they weren't allowed I got one through.

And yes, a friend that works for the TSA told me about that little gem :)

FWIW - since they started allowing them in carryons, I've always had 2 with me in the same pocket and they've always gotten through.

Me too first time I did it was by accident, after that it wasn't plus I stick them in carry on and in checked luggage and have mailed them, first time I put some in with snax etc and no problem the next time I was just mailin the lighters so told the PO It's fine you can but it costs more anf is a whole lot of ???? etc!! I have heard they sell them at Pop behind the counter !!

Its so funny you say that. A few years ago when you couldn't bring ANY lighters (they had the big barrell FULL of them prior to security) I was so concerned w/ making sure I threw away all of the lighters only to be sitting at the gate and find one in my pocketbook :rotfl: (that had gone thru the security cameras) I was so scared they were going to come and get me.

You can purchase lighters at any of the gift shops in the resorts. They aren't displayed, nor have I seen cigarettes or cigars displayed (in recent years). But if you ask they stock them behind the counter along with most brands of cigarettes.

It's no secret. Lighters have been permitted in carry-on luggage since August 2007. It was costing the government too much money to dispose of all the lighters being confiscated at the TSA checkpoints (or so they say). Lighters are not, however, permitted in checked luggage unless they conform to the TSA standards.

From the TSA website:

Lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please leave it at home.

Here's a link to that portion the permitted/prohibited items on the TSA list:

Can anyone tell me about the smoking areas at CSR? I have seen the map, and it doesnt look like there are too many near the rooms. Also, are any of them covered? I requested a room near a DSA but looking at the maps, it doesnt look like it will be that close anyways.

How strict has Disney been about enforcing the nonsmoking? Has anyone been "in trouble" yet?

Are there any maps of the smoking areas in the parks and at the resorts?

If there are, can someone let me know where they are.

I'm actually wanting them so I can avoid these areas as I'm extremely allergic to smoke. Almost had trouble last year at DL when I accidently walked right by the smoking area.

Sorry, just found the maps. Wow there seems to be a lot of smoking areas. Now I'm getting scarred. Are the areas away from the paths? I would hate to wander into a smoking area. I'll carry my inhalers everywhere.

There were actually several off the paths, but they seem to have removed quite a few of them :confused3

Great! I don't want to have to be rushed to the hospital, just because I walked by a smoker. I may be alone with my niece most of the trip.

I only noticed one area in DCA, if there were more at the DLR I didn't see them.

It sure was scarry looking at the maps. They had smoking areas all over the place.

actually, It is NOT great that they have removed many DSAs. It makes it harder for smokers to abide by the rules. yes, WE will still obey the rules and smoke only in DSAs, but many smokers will not if it becomes way too inconvenient. (just like disney did a study about how long a person will carry a piece of trash before throwing it on the ground, and located the trashcans accordingly)
therefore, eliminating DSAs actually will make it worse for nonsmokers!

most ARE out of the way. the one they took away that surprised me was the one by Mouse Gear in Epcot. (with the fountain view) that one was WAY out of the way of the main "travel" path.

I think you misunderstood. I indicated that several of the DSA's that were off the main paths had been removed, meaning the ones that are left are on or near the main paths. In other words, you're more likely to walk by smokers than before. I have no idea why Disney chose to do it this way, but IMO it was a really bad idea.

Nooooooooooo!!!!! That was one of my favorite DSAs at Epcot. When I was at Epcot at closing, that was my spot to sit with a drink and a smoke and wait out the crowds. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Every trip I plan a couple hours of fountain watching.

I did not see with my own eyes that the fountain DSA is gone, but it is not on the new map a previous poster shared with us.:sad2:
