(CLOSED) The Smoking DSA's @ Resorts Info Thread

DSA'S: as a smoker, I agree the the DSA by ALoha Ilse is a bad spot. although I LOVE IT, it isn't really fair to nonsmokers who want to enjoy a Dole WHIP and there is no where else for them to sit. (aren't I being nice here?)
however, the DSA somewhat NEAR the center fountain in EPCOT is WAY out of the way of the central "travel path". you have to walk WAY into a recess to get to it. anyone stopping to see the fountains would have to make a point to walk BACK into it. it was a GREAT DSA for smokers and nonsmokers alike! and we all want to get along!:grouphug:

I agree, smidgy - I hope that one is NOT gone! Has anyone been there lately and stopped by to see if the ashtrays are still there (a sure sign of a DSA)? If not, could somebody PLEASE check? Not that my entire trip would be ruined... but I love that spot!

We may be moving from ASMovies to Pop. Does anyone know which preferred ground-floor rooms at Pop are the closest to a DSA? As we don't know if we'll have to move to Pop or stay at ASMovies, I have no idea what building(s) the preferred rooms are in, sorry.

Any help would be appreciated - there are 3 smokers in our Grand Gathering party!

For the most part, the Pop DSAs are not especially convenient to the Preferred rooms. There are a number of them on the walkway around the lake, but none of the Preferred rooms face in that direction.

If I had to make a suggestion, I would say to request Building 5. There's one near the far wing, closest to the lake, and another one a little more toward the 70s Building 6.

It was there in June.

Thanks to everyone for contributing to this thread. Sept. 12-20 will be our first trip since the "no smoking on balconies" has gone into effect and was considering renting a house instead of staying on property. While I will miss the "morning coffee and first smoke of the day" and "last one to reflect on the day before bedtime" on the balcony, I am no longer totally stressed over finding a spot to enjoy those little pleasures of the day! Will be staying at the Polynesian and thanks to the photos posted on this site do not see much of a problem. May have on MY "bunny shoes" and Dallas Cowboys nightshirt but I plan to relax and be myself! One month to go (will be 2 year old granddaughters first trip) and am so anxious to get back to my home away from home! Am looking forward to meeting fellow smokers as we gather in the DSA's!

...more questions. Does anyone know if the bar/lounge area at the Poly has big screen TV's ... and are there any DSA's close to the area? Am interested in watching our Cowboys play the Eagles on Monday Night Football and would love to do so on a big screen.

...is the FOX news channel available? I KNOW ... I'll be on vacation but have to have my Sean Hannity "fix" at least 2 or 3 times. Love that guy!!!

...is that a DSA I see on the Monorail platform? Hope so ... give me something to do while we wait for the monorail!

I'm pretty sure "no" on the tv - the lounge is really just an area in the lobby adjacent to both restaurants.

You can check the resort maps (see the first post in this thread for links), but you will need to go downstairs and outside to get to one.

Ditto for the monorail platform. It doesn't seem like there's be a DSA - but the Polynesian is somewhat unique in that I think a couple of the DSAs are actually on large landings in a couple of the buildings. But again, I could easily be wrong. I hate to suggest you read this entire thread (seeing that it's now up to over 750 posts :umbrella:, but I'm pretty sure that information is in here somewhere :teeth:

I don't know about the DSAs but I do know that a couple of trips ago we watched the end of a nascar race on a big screen at the Tambu Lounge at the Poly

The closest DSA to the Tambu Lounge (which is on the 2nd floor) is the one right outside the the GCH door on the first floor (the side that leads to the pool).

This photo was taken from a footbridge near the volcano pool looking back toward the GCH. Sorry it's so hard to see, but the cluster of people at the head of the stream are standing around the DSA. The door to the GCH is hidden by the same palmetto that's hiding the people on the right-hand side of the group, but it's only a few yards away.

Here's a shot of the DSA as you'd see it coming out of the GCH:

There is no DSA on the monorail platform. The DSA you see on the map is probably on the lower level. Can't say that for sure since I don't recall being on the lower level since the new smoking policy was enacted, but I have been on the monorail platform and there is definitely no smoking up there.

Sorry, can't help you with the TV channels, other than I do know you can get CNN and the Weather Channel!!:confused3

Krbq

THANKS for photos ... I remember the spot well. Have stayed at Poly many times and this is one of my favorite spots. Yuk on the CNN channel ... guess I'll have to set sleep timer on the Weather Channel!

Thanks for the replies on my Pop question, but it turns out we've moved from ASMovies to ASSports (our fabulous TA got us $500 off our package for doing so though!).

So, after looking at the maps, I think I've figured out which preferred rooms are closest to a DSA. The only two preferred rooms buildings are the Surfs Up buildings and the one that looks the closest to a DSA seems to be Surfs Up #1.

I thinks rooms #1104 to #1107 might have direct eyelines to the DSA (important for those of us with deep-sleeping husbands and excited children! lol). What do you think of those rooms? Closest?

Thanks!

This is probably the wrong place to post - Sorry

Can we now bring a disposable "Bic" lighter in our carry-on luggage?
I'm confused. :confused3

I thought some of you could answer this question for me.
Thank you!!!

yes you can :hippie:

Thank you! :worship:

Me too but I took them anyway and never had a problem even went hru security with one in mmy pocket accidently :rotfl2: I never really understood what they thought we would do with one anyway, was it a bomb thing or an arson scare ??? I would stick one in my carryon in a shoe and it was never detected . If it had been they could have taken it, no biggie. I never put one in my purse just matches but I wanted a lighter on hand when I got to Disney.Tried mailing them once and while you can it is paperwork and money.

Does anyone have pics of the smoking areas at the YC? I think I know just about where they are, but a pic would be nice.

We didn't have any problems with the DSA at AKL last week until Faye came. They are not covered so we got very wet from time to time. We did notice at night during down pours people were smoking in areas that they were not suppose to. We just took towels to sit on and wore our ponchos. We certainly got our money's worth out of our ponchos last week.

Has anyone been to Epcot this month and noticed whether the DSA by Mission:Space (the little area with the built-in concrete benches amongst the planters, semi-secluded) is still there?
