Ok totally not clothing but I made some progress this weekend. I wanted to make a baby quilt for a couple at our church having their first. They are really young and have only been married for a year or so so they're still just starting out. I think they're 22 or so...anyway, I got to start it Friday, got it finished yesterday:

I'm gonna have to make some of those skirts for my DD. She hates wearing pants. Maybe once I clear out a couple of projects in my sewing room my DH won't cringe if he sees me start something new.

I love the fabrics in your quilt! It's really pretty!

That quilt is fantastic!!! I can't believe you made it so fast, too!!

Help needed!
I'm looking for a Timothy mouse applique, or embroidery (for my embroidery machine) for Tessa and Sawyer's Dumbo outfits. The only one I've seen is from Divas*Doodles on ebay, but they're so expensive and her designs don't seem to stitch out right on my machine. Has anyone seen one anywhere else? I'd also be happy to hear about any other Dumbo-themed appliques or embroideries, like the birds and such.

I swear I just saw one somewhere, I'll go look.

I found this great mickey fabric....and of course I can't save the picture so I am posting the site.

It's description is Aloha-mouse cotton knit fabric...I am considering buying some.

Check it out!

really cute!

I can't agree more about CarlaC's patterns. I use them all the time!
I don't think I have picked up a commercial pattern in a couple of years now, except for the Farbenmix ones.
Speaking of Carla's patterns. I just finished this Simply Sweet dress for our trip. Four down, a couple of more to go!
I also used the quilting block tutorial on YCMT's blog to add the hem detail.

Wow! That is just beautiful!

1.)I can't wait to see what you make with that pattern. Neither can Leslie! :rotfl:

2.)"Our" Dolly Pops, huh? Well, let's chalk that up to one more childhood toy I thought was mine, but wasn't. :lmao:
3.)We did have a much cooler stroller. But, it was the Pooh one from JCPenney that was recalled last year for high lead content. Now, they are just using a cheapie umbrella. I wanted to buy another cool one, but Henry felt Sawyer didn't need a doll stroller. :snooty:

4.)Oh my gosh, would you look at my ticker!??? :faint:

1.)I can't wait either!
2.)Sorry, yep, they were both of ours. They were on a really good clearance. I'm thinking at Kmart. So good the cashier had to call someone to make sure she could sell them to us at that price!
I don't think either one of us was lacking in the toy department though!!
Your toys that I remembe off hand (because I thought they were so cool!)
Fisher Price Little People Carousel (with that grumpy boy permanently hooked to the crank!)
Fisher Price Little People Hospital
Cool red tricycle (I never had a tricycle)
More stuffed animals than any human on earth!
That cool soap that was shaped like a dog.
The plastic needlework thing. I think it was a sun.
Miss Piggie puppet
That gear town (the one Mom stomped on when you ripped up my Cedar Point cards)
Those square little people type things with the forest (Mom still has those too I think)
Richard Scarry Mouse on a raft
That cool baby bottle that was shaped like an ice cream cone! (ok, that wasn't a toy, but it was the coolest bottle I had ever seen!)

Those are so cute!! I love the Aloha one!
I just looked at CarlaC's patterns. Too cute!!! I want to do one of the bundles. I wish there was a make your own bundle. I want the stripwork jumper, patchwork twirl and simply sweet :) Oh, I want the easy fit pants too :)

You will not regret buying them!!! Carla is great, they are worth every penny!
Hi Friends,

No time to read as we are heading up to the mountain. It is my first time on a new board that I got last year on a Pro form. I also got new bindings for Christmas.

I have only been riding once this year and spent 9/10 of the day teaching DS BFF how to snowboard. I am pretty scared!

We went to the city and I spent $36 at Joann's and $46 at Wal-mart:crazy2: But I have some great fabrics for big gives.

Have a great day I will catch up with everyone tomorrow.

APRIL!!! Didn't we talk about this already?? You should NOT be snowboarding! Drive carefully!

My suggestion would be to buy whatever bundle she has and purchase additional patterns as available. You will eventually use ALL of them. Her patterns truly are the staples of my sewing repertoire! They are so versatile, and easy, and VERY cute! I can't say enough good about her patterns. Any seamstress should own EVERY SINGLE ONE of them! And, no, she's not paying me to say that!

Yep, what Shannon said! :thumbsup2

I forgot to add that I have acquired an embroidery machine. It is a little bit older and not the best model, but I am excited to try it out. I of course know NOTHING about them. Then again, this time last year was the first time I had ever used my sewing machine :)

So, any good places to start learning about embroidery machines?

What brand and model number do you have? There are some links in the bookmarks for "machine embroidery" or maybe it's "embroidery machine" one or the other! You can get some good tips there!

Carla's patterns are why more than just a pattern-they have definitely made me a better sewer. The commercial patterns make me want to quit sewing.
I agree! Carla's patterns made me love sewing again!

here is clints big give shirt.

That is so cute Tom!!!! Four to go? I can't wait to see them all!!!

My daughter is the biggest Marie (from Aristocats) fan. I thought it would be great to make her something for our trip in October. I was thinking pink and black, just seemed like the colors would fit the whole Aristocat/Paris theme. I stumbled upon this fabric on :wizard:

621f_35.jpg

and I LOVE IT!!!! Question is has anyone seen this anywhere where it's not $20/yard :scared: . That's a little...ok a lot :faint: ...more than I wanted to spend.

Thanks!

I LOVE that fabric too!!! I've only seen it on Ebay though.

I think Linnette once posted a purse made with the Disney Fabric Art squares....Has anyone else made anything with them that you would like to share?

Linnette used them to make a cute little dress too. I think it was the alice in Wonderland one. It was like blocks or something. Very cute! Maybe she'll repost the pictures for us!

So cute! I bet he will love it!

Wow, I really love the quilt blocks. I never read the quilt parts because I didn't think I would ever use them, but you are changing my mind!

Sigh! I wish I was working on a Simply Sweet dress today! I have been working on a mccalls pattern for a diaper bag and it has been the pattern from H-E double hockey sticks for sure! I even went to Joanns in desperation and the cutting table ladies could not help me. I called my mom twice to whine about it and I almost cried when I sewed the lining in inside out! But it's done! It is not perfect and I am a little stressed out about that because it's for a friend's daughter.

Then when I finally finished today I wanted to do something fun. I get so irritated that they don't have any cute girly sports team stuff so I took a 2xl t-shirt and cut it down to make a little dress. I think next time I will put elastic in th sleeves to be even girlier. Megan was excited about it until DH made her put on a long sleeved shirt underneath because they are going to out to watch the Steelers game.

Steph, I love Megan's sporty dress! So cute!

Here is Lily's Pooh dress I made a few days ago. I'm not so sure I love the pants. They need a pink ruffle to coordinate with the top/dress. Maybe it will be sooooo warm in Florida she will need shorts under instead. :thumbsup2 I CASEd this a bit from something I saw on here 100 years ago. And yes, she does have a big scratch under her right eye. She was lying on my bedroom floor yesterday when Luke tripped on her head :confused3

That turn out really cute. How about putting some pink rick-rac where the ruffle joins onto the pants. That would give a touch of pink to tie into the top without having to take the pants apart.

Can anyone tell me where they are finding the Mickey Mouse buttons. I thought they were from the scrapbooking department but I have been unable to find any. TIA

I have to go back to page 42 to catch up. You folks have been busy chatting today!!!
But wanted to type first. I just dont have anyone else I am ready to share this with you all of you are so supportive. Im not sure which way is up. Today has been a bit of a rough day.
The adoption event had it's cons, but thats minor. When I got home DH told me my Mom called and I should call her back. My Mom is a jabber-mouth- for her to call and just ask to be called back is unheard of, so I looked and DH and said 'Tell me whats going on" he said "just call her" me- "Not until you tell me at least something" Long story short I called.
My Dad, as some of you may recall has been fighting prostate cancer for the past 7 years. He has been complaining of back pain for the last 2 months, felt it was the cause of a skiing accident early this season. He was told last week he had a compression fracture- well I guess the fracture- they are calling them "breaks" now and there are at least 4. In the process of getting info on this they realized this is being caused by one of 3 things. They are most leaning towards his cancer matastisizing and a tumor has put pressure on his spine and caused the fractures. The alternative is lymphoma or lukemia. So he should hopefully know tomorrow if he is looking at surgery and radiation (in addition to the hormone treatments he hates) or treating the lukemia/lymphoma by some other means- Im not sure.
He's in a lot of pain right now and my Mom says he's not talking much. The meds he's on make him spacey, or the pain keeps him from talking.
I know the hormone treatments have left him incontinent and give him severe shakes, and fatigue and such.

I know we are sewing board. Im just so upset right now and knew you all would understand.

My daughter has a report on Tennessee. One of the pages she has to interview someone from there, who no longer lives there...only we know no one. is anyone willing to answer these questions for my 9 year old daughter?

I started to answer her questions then saw it is for someone in Tenn. :rotfl2: Sorry I don't live there. I bet its a nice place to live though!

I have used the ones from the Scrapbooking sections. I bought them at walmart & Joanns.

I think we are more than a sewing board. I will keep your dad in my prayers.

I am another who uses Carla C patterns all the time. I love the extra directions and suggestions she gives. I also HATE to take all the tissue out of a commercial pattern and cut out all the pieces I need. I like just printing out the actual pieces that I need! Instead of typing today, I am suppose to be making a 6mo size dress for littlest Granddaughter. They got an extra special last minute trip to Disneyland. No little outfits for her yet!! So, they are relaxing right now at the Tinkerbell pool and I am at home sewing (uh, on Dis boards!) and will be leaving in about an hour for an evening at Disneyland! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Wow!! The price sure went up since I bought it! There is no way I'd pay that. If I remember right, it's nice fabric, heavier like a scrub fabric.

Lily's Pooh dress is adorable! I second the ric rac idea. Much easier than taking the ruffle off and it will add that "pop of pink!"

So if you have followed my posts, you will know that I have VERY limited knowledge of sewing and my last attempt was a long time ago and had tragic and scarring results.

I finally bought a sewing machine, got it set up and began to make, what I thought would be an easy project. Shorts.

Well, I managed to not sew the legs together so it looked like a skirt gone horribly wrong.

There was not one single stitch that was straight, it looked like I had been sewing while intoxicated.

I finally did manage to get the legs sewn together and the crotch seam done (still drunk sewing looking)

One pant leg was wider than the other

The hem on each pant leg was pitiful
One pant leg was longer than the other even though I measured it 4 times.

It was none the less, sad and kinda scary but I will trudge on..

I would post a picture but as Halloween has past, I do not want to scare you all unnecessarily.

I am off to practice some more....

I think lots of us (actually I know lots of us) get our patterns from www.youcanmakethis.com and our favorite pattern author is CarlaC. Get whatever bundlepack looks the best to you and add on when able or necessary. Using her patterns and following her directions made it possible for me to finish a Vida. The directions that come with it are literally like 10 small steps. Where Carla's directions are literally 100 pages of step-by-step instructions. There is as big difference and hers are so exact!

I bought the Portrait Peasant Top, Stripwork Dress, Easy-Fit pants combo. I want the patchwork twirl combo, too! That will pose a problem with the double up of the Peasant pattern, but maybe I can email about it :) I love all of the information she provides thanks for the suggestions!!!

I am joining in the Texas discussion - I am in McKinney which is north of Dallas by about 30 miles. Hey to all of my fellow Texans, I didn't know there were so many of us!

McKinney! Like I said, I grew up in Princeton. So, I know McKinney well :)

I know we are sewing board. Im just so upset right now and knew you all would understand.

I haven't been here long, but I agree it is more than that!! I am sorry about your parents. It is tought having to worry about those things. Prayers and well wishes your way!

I am sorry that you are having problems sewing. It does take practice, lots of practice! I read somewhere, can't remember where, it was a long time ago and my brain is getting older, that a good way to practice sewing straight is to take lined paper and use it like fabric. Just stitch along the lines to practice sewing straight.

If its any consolation, I was making pants with a cuff and sewed the cuff to the top of the pants, not the bottom! In my house, the seam ripper is one of my bestest friends. :rotfl2:

Here is the outfit for Hayden (Tiny Treasures Big Give) that I made this afternoon. He loves orange and the cars material was all I could find that coordinated with the shirt!

Just the Easy Fit pants with the orange shirt. Simple rectangular applique on the shirt.
