Can you use gift cards to pay the room charges?
Just make sure you don't wait until the morning of your checkout day to pay. Your credit card will be charged sometime during the night before checkout.you have to have a CC on file in order to charge, but you can pay off the bill anytime and anyway (cash, debit, or any other acceptable form) you like before you reach the 2K limit or before you check out, whichever comes first.
While the DVA account number seems to effectively be the same as a gift card, the DVA does not come with any physical card. I don't know if the folks at the front desk could type in a "gift card number" or not, but it would likely be against policy. Plus, when typing in a gift card number, most places typically need the security code to validate the card, but a DVA doesn't have a security code.I don't see why you can't use your DVA to pay your room account as a gift card. Use a credit card to establish room charging and pay with your DVA account number prior to the front desk charging to your credit card.

I haven't kept up with DVA rules, but I' know they've changed a few times. You used to only be allowed a single gift card refund, at least in a defined period and for a small amount. I'm not sure how much you can get refunded in the form of a gift card now, nor how long it takes to process. Regardless, any gift card that you withdraw from your DVA doesn't count towards the 2% bonus, so it's pointless to put the gift cards into the DVA to begin with. It's easiest to just skip the DVA entirely for any charges that you won't pay in advance. So you can combine gift cards if needed and pay with a gift card or order a gift card from your DVA account and pay with it. I just paid our DVC dues with our DVA account online which made me think that you could use the account in person.

I buy Disney gift cards every week and keep a permanent stash of them to bring with us.
I should really do that.
I started doing it a few years ago after we had one trip that we spent WAAAAY too much and our bill at check-out was ridiculous. It all hit our credit card and I was like this is not happening again - especially if we're going to be coming 2 or 3 times a year. That's when I started this "collection". I buy them with my groceries and I usually get the ones that you can put anywhere from $5 to $500 on them and I put whatever I can afford that week on them. So a lot of them are $25 or $30 or $35 but sometimes if I've had an especially frugal week I put $50. (Our DS is away at college for the majority of the year so my grocery bill is a lot less when he's gone than when he's home.) When I get home from the store I write the amount on them with a sharpie & drop 'em into a baggie. I keep a little piece of notepaper in the baggie too with a running total. My goal now is to bring enough in cards on each trip to cover the whole trip. It helps me pace our spending. The problem is that the more often we go the harder it is to save up enough cards in-between trips - once a year is not a biggie....3 times a year is tough to save up!!
Guess it's an incentive to budget wisely at the grocery store too!!
