Characters in Bloom (?)

I noticed we will be at WDW during a "Characters in Bloom" weekend in May. What is this? Just more of them out and about? Are they dressed differently (I'm thinking flowers becuase of the F&G show)? Any suggestions or things we should take advantage of?

We've never been to it, but I've read some posts about the characters there. They do seem to be very abundant at that time, and rare ones are out too. I've read that all 7 dwarfs have been out. Also, characters from Bug's Life, and the Ostrich & Hippo from Fantasia (I think they're named Madame Upanova & Hyacinth, but I may be wrong).

When is the weekend in may...we will be in Disneyworld during MAY?

I'm pretty sure characters in bloom refers to the abundant character topiaries around EPCOT during the festival. Last year there were many (including Stitch tagging along with Snow White and the seven dwarves!). This, however, is during there the whole festival. Not sure if it is something else for a particular weekend?

ETA: From AllEars: May 19, 20, & 21 -- Characters in Bloom - Bring the whole Family to experience a weekend full of character. More Disney Characters than ever will be springing up all over the park!

I am hoping they have some really good characters out, but you never know! Could be just lots of the commons, but I hope since they are advertising it, Disney would get some rare ones out! I am not sure if the bug/insect characters would be there, as there seems to be a seperate Bugs weekend in June. I guess we'll all see!
