Will we see any charachters at Hilton Head? We want to start getting our kids excited about our December trip and need to let them know what to expect.

No. My understanding from my guide is that characters have occasionally surfaced, but it is not part of the experience. I have read many reports on trips to HH since I joined this board in March and I have never read of a "character" experience, other than fellow guests or family. This really should not lessen the experience for your children. Good luck with your trip!

We were at HH for a week in July and there were no characters. They do have Shadow, not the shadow from Bear in the Big Blue house, but a dog that is the resort mascot. THe kids get to take pictures with her and they have her at a couple of the events. Shadow's paw prints are in the tile floor of the rooms, dog house at the main desk, etc...

Is Shadow a "Real" dog or a character? What breed of dog is it? Also are you the Chameleon that called into 101.5 on Wed and performed on the talent show? If you are you were excellent!

My wife and I just got back from HH a few weeks ago, and during our "Behind the Ears" tour someone asked if there are every Disney characters roaming around. The answer was no, although Mickey sometimes does vacation at HH, but don't count on it.

Shadow is a real dog who does a weekly show. She is a golden retriever who was a stray on the property when Disney bought it. Her history is pretty amazing. She just roams the grounds freely.

(I also heard Chameleon on 101.5. For being so nervous I thought she did an excellent job.)

We went to HH for the first time this June and had a WONDERFUL time. Although there are no "Disney" characters, I think HH has some of their own "special characters"......Shadow, B. Lou Crabbe, Eric the Naturalist, some of the recreation crew, to name a few ;) As DownNeckBoy mentioned..not having the characters there will NOT lessen the experience.

There are hidden Mickey's everywhere, especially in the Lodge, and you can pick up some hidden Mickey hints at the front desk. If you listen closely, you will here many familiar Disney songs playing!!

We saw Shawdow and my kids (boys 11 and 12) and I found her foot prints on the beach one day.

HH is a geat place to visit. Very family friendly!!!!!

Have a great trip,
Karen

We were lucky enough to run into Mickey and Minnie at HH one year but that was an unusual situation. One of the CM's dressed up like Cupid on VD on another occasion.

I have recommended to the staff to add a Character event every once in a while but it so far no response

10 visits to HH and I have never seen Mickey or any other characteur.

Shadow does appear and many kids our disapointed that my husbands Golden Retriever service dog is Ned rather than Shadow!

Sorry that was not me on NJ 101.5. I listen to the station often but I have never called the station.

Shadow is a golden retriever.

Too much Disney marketing for me to believe the story that she was a stray found living on the island during the construction.

The behind the ears tour will tell you that Disney Imagineers designed the theme of a fishing lodge and the rest of the story!
