Changing a Reservation

I tried to search for this but was not successful. I appologize if this has been asked before (which I am sure it has ;)) but why is it that Member Services can not "temporarily" hold a room in the system while they cancel an existing reservation. We are checking into the BC this Saturday and have a five night split stay between there and the BW. We have been waiting for the waitlist to come through, but it has not. When I called today to check availability there was a night available so we could stay at BC for nights 1, 2 and 3 and be at the BW for nights 4 and 5. She told me there was a possibility I could lose the night when making the switch and wind up with no where to stay.

Why can't they hold a night while they free up my points? Is there any mention that this will be a possibility when they upgrade their booking system?

Thanks in advance!

Probably because their system shows you don't have points to make a reservation unless you have a whole bunch of points and go multiple times a year. If the system would allow them to use the points that are currently used in a reservation and then cancel the reservation, DVC could do what you are asking for. But as for now, you don't have the points, they are tied up in the current reservation. You have to cancel the reservation to free up the points.

Because they don't want to. They could make system upgrades that allows all MS Advisers to hold inventory but they drag it out for several years.

There could also be some other reason not related to software that we will never be told about.

This will really frost you. The Team Leads do have the capability to hold inventory so it can be done.

And it's also done for waitlists so yes, the software does allow it even if they don't allow MS to do it. :confused3

I actually did have the points, but was told that since I am within the 30 day window the points that would be released from cancelling the other reservation would then be in holding and not bankable. I already have two other trips scheduled within my current use year and will not be going again until next use year so I did not want to lose those points.

I was thinking that they should be able to do something similar to what ticketmaster does when searching for concert tickets. They provide you with tickets and give you two minutes to complete the transaction before returning the tickets to inventory. It would be very helpful :rotfl2: if they could do that for us when cancelling and re-booking rooms so we did not have to get down on our hands and knees to pray that in the minute or so they are adjusting the reservation, we wind up with no room at all, lol.

It is very frustrating :confused3 but we can hope that perhaps we will see this feature available someday....

When the exact same circumstances happened to me, I was livid. C'mon, you can't hold the reservation for a minute while you cancel? I asked to speak to a supervisor and he reserved the room for me.

I actually read on this thread that someone LOST their current ressie because 1 minute something was available (MS did not tell them the consquences) so they said to book new ressie and of course old ressie was cancelled 1st and when MS went to book new ressie it was gone! What a nightmare, it is just not right! I worked in the travel business 20 years ago and did everything from hotel front desk, reservations, travel agent and I had never heard of such a thing! All systems I worked on gave you the option to put a temporary "hold" on all inventory for a small window of time.

It happened to us last year. Called at 11 months, 9:00 AM and tried to book Jambo Concierge. Before the Adviser could complete the reservation, most of our confirmed dates were gone. :sad2:

IT is not one of Disney's strong suits. They have been promising online reservations for DVC for years and they can't even get their own system to work.
