Fake Nails

I keep my nails short and rarely will paint them. I may do some fun colors when going on vacation, for a convention, or ren faire. Just a pop of something different. When I went to Salem I did a sparkly purple that matched the outfits I was bringing along.

I just walk around here being myself whether its esthetically pleasing or not.
I rather be my real self and feel comfy than try to impress others.

I disagree that wearing makeup or doing your nails is not being your real self. I sometimes wear makeup and I sometimes don't. Either way, I am being real self. I'm not hiding who I am or anything. I just wanted to do something fun!

I got fake nails for our two different cruises this year and they only work for me when on vacation. I got home and couldn't type or do my normal household stuff and took them off right away. I told my husband if I say I want to get my nails done before a trip again, to tell me I told him to remind me that I said never again :upsidedow Its not worth the cost to my nails and pocketbook.

I've had extensions before. I had the very bad habit of biting my nails and I basically ruined my nail bed. My nails are very weak and break easily. I've worn extensions to help my nails grow out under them. I currently see my nail tech for a gel manicure every 2-3 weeks. If I don't have gel on my nails, my nails will break all the way down to the quick.

My natural nails are 2 to 3 CM past the tips of my fingers. I get a dip manicure every 3 to 4 weeks. I work fulltime in an office setting, and then as a pottery as my side hustle. My nails are well-kept and clean; they are scrubbed with a nail brush or an old toothbrush multiple times a day.

Not all long nails are unkept.

Food service workers should be wearing gloves and it will be a non-issue.

Reformed habitual nail bitter here as well.

Occasionally when I'd miraculously not bite my nails and they actually grew, I would get gel. But then I would peel it off if I got a chip or something, which did more damage. Now I don't bite any more. (I think it is a side effect/benefit of one of the medicines I'm on.) I now get the powder dip and they last forever and I don't peel them off. I can go about a month before needing to get them done if I have on a light color. Last time was a light pink and I went almost 5 weeks. Now they are yellow and I'm hoping for 4ish weeks again. I don't think I will go back to gel.

As for the topic, those that don't like those long nails, is it because they are fake or just long nails in general?

My nails are this length and shape:

I love the dip. I will never go back to gel!

I don't know what my issue is, or I can't articulate it. This pic you posted doesn't bother me in the least.

I think I am mostly bothered by IG or influencer posts where the nails are just, well, ugly (not even necessarily long) and the hands and nails are overpowering the product while they hold it. Such as a cupcake or a food item. It just skeeves me out for some reason. IRL, I don't overly think about it. But I think for someone trying to push a product, the nails should not be distracting from the product.

The original photo I posted to start the thread was an example of the worker's hand totally ruining the shot of the sandwich which was being reviewed. I didn't even get to the hygiene part. If the "hand model" was a real worker, I am sure she just was posing with the sandwich for the article and probably gloves herself when working. But her nails were just UGLY.
