Fake Nails

I get a lot of pedicures. I like a bright red polish on my tootsies. But, I never let them touch my hands.

My fingernails are super healthy because I’ve never worn fake nails. I keep them shaped to a medium length and moisturized. I have so many friends whose nails are wrecked from a lifetime of fake nails (not the long claws but fake nonetheless).

The super pointy ones freak me out. I saw a lot of them on the 20-30 somethings at a function I attended last week.

I do shape & polish my own nails too. Working in a hospital we couldn’t have fake nails. My nails used to be thin & weak so I was never interested in weakening them further with fake nails anyway. Keeping them polished definitely helped strengthen them. I don’t let them get more than 1/4 - 1/2” past my fingers with a rounded square type shape. Over the years I’ve gotten plenty of compliments from women who couldn’t believe I do them myself.

Same, I LOVE pedicures and usually get them year round; even during the winter months in Iowa. Not a big fan of the long fingernails. I'm sure that people get used to them, but I would have a hard time with them. I work in the hospital and we aren't even allowed to wear fingernail polish, let alone fake nails.

Personally I don't care for anything fake at least not for myself.

I don't wear makeup or fake nails or nail polish or hair extensions or get my teeth whitened etc.

I just walk around here being myself whether its esthetically pleasing or not.
I rather be my real self and feel comfy than try to impress others.
Same. I get some compliments on my graying hair, sort of. It's more like - "you're hair looks so nice, but I could never go gray"!

I had piano lessons growing up and my nails clicked and clacked if they got too long. My nails are strong and healthy so I've never wanted the fake variety.

My co-worker had to call me over to help her get a baby out of the carseat. She couldn't undo the clip in the seat because she has over 1" nails. I think she has to consider how she's going to manage if an emergency came up!

I'm in the "they're yick" category. Especially anyone whose hands touch someone else in their job, like a dental hygienist. I complained to a former dentist about his hygienist because her long nails (in gloves, of course) were biting into my gums and mouth while she was working on me.

Especially the long, pointy nails seem to me to be saying "Do not get near me or I will scratch your eyes out . . . for starters." Whether they're real or fake, they seem awful to me. But, as a PP said, they're very popular where I live as well. And, weirdly, among the Gen Z set.

I've never been in a nail salon/parlor/whatever. The odor alone is enough to drive me away!

toe polish only... I got some ugly toes (thanks Dad) and they need all the help they can get...

I will do nails if I am going on vacation, but usually they are clipped short and unpolished.

I like long nails when they are more natural, hate the thick fake ones. I do not understand how folks can get anything done with the super longs

I recall having that thought on the DFB a few times--like stop with these nails that are ruining the food photo of the beutiful Disney cupcake!
Those photos make me feel insecure about my natural nails. Mine have all broken painfully low at one time or another so I have enormous white tips even though I keep them just past my finger tips at their longest.

I'm the same way. The last time I wore make up was wedding day. The only thing I do is occasionally paint my own nails which are very short.

Not a fan but they're massively popular in my area.
I think they're fairly popular everywhere. For me, I just find them unattractive, like tattoos (any kind, on anybody) and stenciled-on eyebrows. They may be "excellent quality work" but it's still a look I just don't like. I guess part of it is that I avoid anything that may attract undue attention and these just seem to scream "look at me". I know it's just a personal preference and many people might say similar things about my appearance, which although I wear make-up, nail polish (on natural nails), hair colour and whatnot, I doubt anyone would find me very noticeable.

I think her nails could be a little better. I don't bother with painting my nails anymore. I've only went for a manicure and pedicure a few times, and to me it's just not worth the price. I do too much stuff around the house and the polish just doesn't last. Washing dishes, yard work, etc. Granted that is probably most noticeable when I'm doing it myself, but just don't want to bother going to the nail salon. Even my toes, up to this summer I would never be caught dead with them exposed and unpainted. But that was getting to be a pain, if I'd get a chip when I was out, it'd look horrible. So now I just have my toes look neat and clean and just put on clear polish which adds a little shine and I think that looks decent. I don't even notice if it wears away in a little area. Then I just re-groom the feet every 10 days or so and re-polish with clear.

Same here! My piano teacher always told me to keep my nails short and it just became a habit. I can't imagine having long nails and still being able to do basic, everyday tasks.

Those nails are not well done plus it is a poorly posed photo. I have long fingernails - always have and I adore them. They aren’t pointed like cats claws, think of 1950’s screen siren almond shape. When my kids were little I always cut them back and never wore my engagement ring etc so they didn’t get scratched. They’re now 20, 18 and 15 so I get to wear all my pretty jewellery as well as have my nails done every month. I dont drink or smoke - my nails are my “pretty habit”.

I'm not a fan or fake nails or long natural nails. Two plus decades in health care has probably formed my thoughts on this! We are not allowed to have fake nails, and natural nails must be short. When I was working in a hospital, we could not have gel polish. I'm now allowed to wear gel polish, but I generally don't bother. I like the look of gel on my short nails, but I hate what it does to my nails and the process of getting it off... oh, and the whole paying the money for it. I used to live in an area where nail salons were plentiful and manis and pedis were fairly cheap; that is no longer the case. I'll do a gel mani for a special event now, but that's it. I do get my toes done (regular polish, natural nails, short) 2-3 times during the summer.

Once in awhile I'll see some ladies with nails that are maybe 6, 7, 8 inches long. So long they curve like back to their palms. Nauseating looking. Looks like Howard Hughes. :crazy2:

The below photo ran in my local paper and received a lot of criticism later on the editorial page about the restaurant worker posing with a sandwich and the fake nails (it was a food review). Many were bothered about the cleanliness with those nails and working food service, but there were comments about the nails themselves. After seeing it and reading it, I realized I, myself, have a nail aversion. Not 100% but when I watch some people "model" their food on IG and other places, I realize their nails skeeve me out and distract from the food. I recall having that thought on the DFB a few times--like stop with these nails that are ruining the food photo of the beutiful Disney cupcake!

I also see people posting pictures of a new nail job before heading off to XXX and they do this claw pose and it's just awful to me. Yet some people I've seen in real life have really pretty nails done.

I think I am in the minority here, but what do you say?

I think it's because of how long they are in the photo. I'm fine with nails, but I do think some look much more professional and classier than others. My teen daughter works at Starbucks and they have to wear gloves if they have anything but their natural nail - no polish etc.
