CDC says cancel any events with 50+ people for the NEXT EIGHT WEEKS

I didn't either. I took it as she was being snarky and using the all caps for humorous emphasis, not yelling. I sometimes all caps a few words in a sentence for EMPHASIS, (like that,) rather than using bolding or italics as it's easier to hit the caps intsead of the coding for bold or italics. I wonder if people think I've been shouting at them? :scratchin
Emphasizing is separate from using all caps for basically your whole post or multiple words together. Generally that is perceived as shouting.

I say the tone, while truly hard to read accurately, was more or less being blunt about one's feeling in a more than normal overt way with the all caps. Fair for them to be blunt if they want to fair for others to disagree with that tactic :)

Holy crap! The wuhan virus is not captain trips.

They are going way overboard.

Why didn’t they have this reaction with the flu, which has infected and killed more people?

The majority of people who died have other serious illnesses that contributed to their death. I wish that they could list the age and health of all the people who have died of the virus.

At least 80% or more of people who get the virus have mild symptoms and survive just fine.

The constant coverage and fearmongering by the media is adding to the problems.
A much higher percentage of those who catch this virus die. Way more people die of the flu before now because way more people have caught the flu.

As for those who die, I personally don't want to see the elderly die before their time and don't forget about those of all ages who have underlying conditions. If we let this run rampant then not only will likely many more people die but our medical facilities won't be able to keep up.

Just my thoughts.

By the entire conversation I read it as yelling, and that the poster was telling people to shut up about their vacations ... not considering the fact people are worried about their livelihoods.

I saw no lighthearted fun of a bad situation. I took it as being nasty.

Sometimes it’s hard to read intent.

Ah, I missed the first post. Yeah, that's not lighthearted snarkiness.

what are you taking about? Canada hasn’t ‘shut down dental’. Geez

100% the right attitude. In six months, wouldn’t it be better to say wow, we overreacted a bit, rather than OMG we should have taken it more seriously?

As someone who has a compromised immune system and could die if contracted this, screw you and your callous attitude. I’m horrified that this is the way you’re dismissing it.

I think your red hat is on a little too tight.

Dental providers are being told to close re coronavirus, VA and Massachusetts I read the statements. Canada has as well. Go to vda website. It's real... I'm married to a dentist.

This does worry me. DSIL's wedding is May 2nd....
Our niece is getting married March 28th at a resort in southern WI. This is the wedding after the courthouse ceremony last Fall (for military reasons). I talked to my SIL yesterday and everything was still a go, but they know it could be postponed due to the daily changing edicts. :( If they have the wedding, we will be there.

I'm about to go into a meeting at 11:00 to get my marching orders to telework. I have heard rumor that we are to prepare for 8-12 weeks of it (federal employee here) so that kind of aligns with the CDC message.

I've posted this on other threads but I put it here too since it directly relates. Schools and businesses are excluded from the CDC recommendation. My question is - what constitutes a business in this case? Technically, most of what has been shut down are businesses,

I believe it’s because the CDC is trying to acknowledge that there are different problems depending on what type of things shut down. Schools for example out their own guidance taking specific education concerns into

Recommendations for concerts and casinos are easy. A recommendation that covered all generic businesses would be a bit harder. It’s tax season - do accountants close? that’s why they also provided broader guidelines for social distancing, maintaining space and protecting at risk populations.

all is best, but something is better than nothing and I think that is the spirit of the recommendation.

The other thing to keep in mind is that their recommendations expect you to have data about the number of cases in your area. Since we do not have that data many public health officials are erring on the side of caution operating under the assumption that this disease is everywhere, which given the way cases have grown & our slow response is probably accurate

Things keep changing so quickly but I know at the county level here the 250 person's gathering limit (which could obviously change especially in light of the CDC's recommendation of 50) excluded weddings (and funerals for that matter). That edict is only for 7 days from March 11th with the option to renew on the March 19th meeting so I do expect even more restrictions.

The wedding is fairly small, around 75 people, but it may not matter in the coming days.

Things are happening so fast. It's like they put rules into place and then 24 hours it's obsolete.
Part of the problem is, you release kids from school, and parents take them to movies, trampoline parks, restaurants, ski resorts, beach resorts, etc, like it's an extended spring break... they just don't get it. In our nanny state, some people really can't help themselves.

Authorities are constantly having to change their approach, due to human behavior. They can't scream "Take this seriously" loud enough to some people.

Staying at home for 2 weeks could be awesome for a lot of families. Time they NEVER spend with the kids, is offered to them on a silver platter. Will they? Hard to say.

It's still okay to order takeout. It's still okay to do online ordering/order pickups.

Again, not everyone has the option to stay home for two weeks. Many, many people still need to work to make money.

Yes, but if everyone that CAN stay home does, then it's better for those that have to work. With that being said, if you are told to stay at home, and you don't, you are part of the problem. This has very little to do with the post you quoted about parents taking their kids to movies, etc, instead of keeping them at home.
