CDC says cancel any events with 50+ people for the NEXT EIGHT WEEKS

Most definitely!!
And as of literally a few minutes ago 4 counties in my metro (2 counties on my side of the state line and 2 counties on the other side of the state line) that represent the bulk of the metro in population (which has something like 14 or so counties total) went to the whole "no dine in" thing just pick up, delivery and curbside with additionally stressing the now 10 people recommendation as in "you should do it no really do it if you realistically can".

PLUS my county announced no school (and no remote learning) through at least April 5th (6 school districts total). The schools are presently on Spring Break at the moment.

So yup. Geez no way anyone can keep up with all this stuff.

Comforting note is I can still get my fav BBQ who had already announced they were starting a makeshift curbside option

To convert a fraction to a percentage first we convert to a decimal. (42/750) = .056. Then we multiply the decimal times 100 to get the percentage. .056 x 100= 5.6%,

Thanks for saving me the trouble. I looked at the number a 45/750 and even an eyeball says "that's an order of magnitude bigger than .5%." No wonder there are people running around going "what's the big deal." They can't do math.

You’re correct. I was clearing up the press conference confusion. 15 days was set, then it was asked how long this would last and the response was given late July to early August. People confused the limits of 10 people to mean until then.

But yes, CDC is at least 8 weeks.

We should be listening to the CDC. The WHO has been more accurate in many things concerning this virus, but I'll take the CDC recommendations. Too many people are listening to people who don't have the qualifications to appropriately advise us in this situation.

Agree.

The thought the CDC helped create the 15 day 10 people guideline?

Personally, I took the whole press conference as follow the 15 day rules, then continue with CDC’s 50+ rules. I didn’t see it as only do this for 15 days and were done, back to normal. But I’m sure some did. Two weeks will definitely help, but not enough to maintain the flat curve. I think we’re in this until mid May.

For every person like that there are more people who aren't. The unfortunate thing is those who are as you say more cavalier are the ones getting all the attention (maybe rightfully so) or putting the attention on themselves and those who are using precautions are not really talked about.

Discussions with extremes don't normally help the rest of the people because the people who are like that aren't likely to change their tunes. I've never seen anyone on the Boards at least advocate for just going to town in their town all willy nilly to the heck with it all

So much of people discussing social distancing do it in a way as to say "stay in your home don't come out" but that's actually not what is being recommended nor meant by social distancing.

"The CDC defines social distancing as it applies to COVID-19 remaining out of congregrate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible." This for some is being applied to "stay holed up in your home don't come out". It does mean certain places like malls, theaters, etc where there normally are groups of people within close contact aren't the best at the moment.

It doesn't mean "don't go to the park, don't leave your home, and whatever you do don't step foot in a store". Take precautions while you are out about absolutely, including washing your hands (like normal) when you're out touching things and use wipes or sanitizer if washing your hands isn't feasible.

These definitions of course may change but as of right now that's what they are.

I have plenty of friends that aren’t being great “social distancers” right now, I unfriended and mentioned her because she was so flagrant. I had no intention of saying she was the norm. Really, who takes two of their kids on upwards of 4 activities a day for days on end (and this isn’t her normal, it’s normally one or two a couple times a week)? She’s obviously an outlier.

I will say though that people in my aren’t social distancing nearly enough. I had to go to the dentist yesterday to finish an already started procedure. Everything looked pretty much business as usual, maybe a little less traffic than usual that time of day. One of the restaurants I passed actually had a full parking lot in the late afternoon on a weekday. If you can stay home, stay home. I get people will sometimes need to leave their house, but I wish people would do it as a true need, not because they just want to go about life as normal. Life is not normal right now. I do not want the doctors and nurses in my area to have to start making decisions about who to save like they are in Italy.

Edited to add: The hygienist and dentist looked scared.
