So you're pulling them from one healthcare setting to another....it's not necessarily a gain.
I can't find a link to back this up. Can you point me to a few places where I can find credible sources that the National Guard is being pulled from areas of healthcare creating a situation where it is not a "gain".

I am not "all doom and gloom" in this thread...I have cited lots of positives. I just don't happen to think that the National Guard is the answer here....that's all. There are plenty of qualified people to vaccinate the population. There's supply that is sitting in freezers, not because there aren't vaccinators, but because there aren't takers at that hospital, facility....etc. That supply needs to move where it will immediately be used. What we truly need is a more coordinated federal plan to disseminate the supply. I'm hopeful that will come together in the coming weeks. When we have lots of supply and overwhelming demand...then I can see calling up the national guard. Anyway....it doesn't matter, none of us are in charge ;).

And I think we'd all agree that Dr. Scott Gottlieb has called balls and strikes throughout this pandemic. This morning, he seems quite concerned. We're going to see a drop in cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the coming weeks, only to see cases rise again as the new variants take hold. He's calling for more vigilant masking...even calling for people to wear N95s.

Well these posts from him are certainly “doom and gloom.” Ugh, this is never going to end. :sad2:

I wouldn't say he's a "doom and gloom" guy....he's telling us the truth. Gottlieb isn't an alarmist. We've only vaccinated 11 million people. There are approximately 19 million doses out there that need to get into arms....now. If facilities aren't able to use the doses they have....they need to get to them to another setting where they will be used.

I just think he's highlighting that we're in a race against the clock here. We're about to see cases/hospitalizations and eventually deaths decline. But, the newer more contagious variants are about to get a foothold and spread more quickly.

It's common sense. National Guard troops are made up with people who have jobs. Our New Jersey National Guard has medial units. They are doctors, nurses, physician assistants....etc. If called up by the national guard, they're pulled from their 9-5 jobs. Whether the guard call-up will affect the frontline fight against Covid also depends on the state. Southern California, Texas and Arizona can't spare healthcare workers at this time. Other states likely can.

The problems with the vaccine rollout vary by state. There are bottlenecks in the system that need to be identified and fixed. If there happens to be tons of vaccine laying around, lines of people looking to get them, well...then you have a lack of vaccinators. That's not the case now. The supply is spread out all over the county and small amounts are sitting in those freezers....in a lot of places. The idea was always to get the vaccines out to the pharmacy chains that literally vaccinate millions of Americans every single year for influenza. Get the supply there....and we'll really pick up speed. We're making problems where there are none.

So your objection is more a guise to discuss your displeasure on not having a national this or that?

Are you assuming a lot of things but not actually having the news stories and communication from National Guard of just what roles those people held before being called up, from communities that are actually losing people that were vital to what was going on at this time which is making them upset? This part in italics being the key. The National Guard has thousands and thousands and thousands of people. There are many stories you can read if you're interested in knowing how grateful people are for the help, how happy members are to aid in their communities (which is part of their duty but they are still happy about it), how it's helping out. We can either complain that it's not a national plan exactly to your (general you) specifications or we can look at how it's helping now. The next administration is heavily calling on them to be used and his plan of attack on the pandemic is way different than what we have now; seems he thinks there's value and capacity there.

Did you know that Arizona is using the National Guard? According a news story last week "In Arizona, National Guard medics are training or retraining medical students and retired medical workers to give shots. The students and retirees had volunteered to help the state administer the Covid-19 vaccines. Guard medics started training the volunteers on Monday. Two days later, some of the volunteers were already giving shots at a vaccination center in Maricopa County, according to the Arizona National Guard. "This is a monumental call to service that requires a whole-of-communuity approach to accomplish," Maj. Gen. Michael T. McGuire, director of the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs, said of the volunteers." I trust that Arizona has information on their capacities better than I do.

The National Guard did a bang up job when a federal testing site was opened here during June-August when we were a hotspot. I would welcome them being involved here for the vaccine, I full expect that will happen at some point. Hopefully, soon.

Guys...relax, we're just having a conversation. I will state, for the record, that the National Guard is indeed a National Treasure that should be used for the Greater Good. We should use them anywhere and everywhere that it makes sense. Moving on.....let's find something new to beat to death.

I'm pretty chill right now but I appreciate the concern ( my coffee has kicked in lol). I'm just trying to give you information that it doesn't appear you're aware of. I think others are doing them same.

You can certainly object to the usage of using them but your examples you use for why they shouldn't don't all end up holding up because it appears they are helping with some of the very things you want. Seems the states are using them anywhere and everywhere that makes sense, I trust those states to have a better grasp on their situation including NY who is also using them. Right now my state needs more supply than anything but if another state needs something else go for it.

Gotta go get ready for game day now! :)

I disagree he is doom and gloom and plays into the fear. Double masks and n95s yeah that won’t happen.

we are nearing vaxxing a mil a day, so in the 5/6 weeks which he is worried we should have another 30 million or more vaccinated of which should mostly be of high risk and front line which will help, but don’t see him presenting the facts in ways that there is hope.

Of all the talking heads on tv, his opinion I respect the least.

I hope you're right....saw you laughed at my previous post, so not sure what your snark level is. 5-6 weeks is a bit far out in pandemic time, as some of us have learned. My vaccine is pretty far out on the horizon as far as I can tell....unless the anti-vaxxer movement really takes hold and I get to move up in line. When I have to be around others, I'll be wearing an KN95...they're easy to get on amazon at this point. I've come his far, so I plan to avoid getting Covid if at all possible.

The good news is it's way ahead of what the CDC predicted back in September.

"At a hearing before a Senate subcommittee on Capitol Hill, CDC Director Robert Redfield said any vaccine is unlikely to be widely available to most Americans before the summer or early fall of 2021, given initial constraints on supplies if and when a vaccine wins approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."

I bet you will be able to get your vaccine before the Fall of 2021.
