CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Oh. Ok. No wonder I couldn't find any links on why it wasn't a "gain" to have the National Guard help with the vaccine.

It was your opinion.

My opinion differs. I feel having the National Guard assisting is most certainly a gain for our nation.

Right...again, the more vaccinators the better. We're not in debate class here. My point is....the national guard isn't needed to vaccinate people. There are nurses all over the country that are volunteering the vaccinate people. Active nurses in their spare time, and retired nurses as well...(like myself). Haven't heard back. I could vaccinate people with my eyes closed...and handle most severe allergic reactions as well. So can others on this board. Someone started a thread about it volunteering. So far, none of us have heard back....but at least we've offered to help.

The good news is it's way ahead of what the CDC predicted back in September.

"At a hearing before a Senate subcommittee on Capitol Hill, CDC Director Robert Redfield said any vaccine is unlikely to be widely available to most Americans before the summer or early fall of 2021, given initial constraints on supplies if and when a vaccine wins approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)."

I bet you will be able to get your vaccine before the Fall of 2021.

That's political....you can't mention the names of any federal officials on here....I got points for doing that.

I had no idea the Center for Disease Control and Prevention was considered political on these boards.

I have quoted a lot of their data before, as well as mentioned the excess deaths chart they provide.

We would have to erase a lot if we didn't mention the CDC.

So weird you got points.

But aren't you so excited that you will be able to get the vaccine sooner than expected? I sure am! So sick of doom and gloom, so I thought I would share some GOOD news.

Again, putting vaccines in arms is NOT the only thing that needs to be done.

My county is trying to set up large scale vaccination centers. They are constrained by staffing, at all levels (not just healthcare trained people). They are literally asking for volunteers to direct traffic, check people in, fill out the cards, monitor people for the 15 minute time and release them when time is up, etc. Volunteers. If they don't get enough volunteers, they can't open a site. We have one site up. The goal is 5. Our county has 3 million residents.

The National Guard would be a welcome sight.

And I feel differently. Not debating. Simply offering my opinion. Just like you are offering yours.

Yep. Im home with my kids but would happily give shots 24/7 to get us over this hump. In my state, however they are not looking for help. Not sure why, but whatever. (insert eye roll)

Redfield lost all credibility when he said he would rather have a mask than a vaccine. I get he was trying to increase mask usage but c’mon, what a dumb thing to say.

Just had my local Tampa Fox affiliate come in with a news update during halftime of the Bucs game. Saying Florida is having issues with people skipping the second dose of the series. Of the roughly 190k that have been eligible for their second shot, they have just north of 40k that are overdue for that shot. I’m wondering if the ability for non Florida residents to get the shot here is playing into it. Or if people are just thinking they can get 1 and be ok. But that’s not good. More than 20% aren’t showing up for their second dose.

Sarasota ran out of shots (Modena) and people are unable to get their second one. It’s been two weeks and the Sarasota Health Department hasn’t given an update of when or where they will be available.

Both my parents got their shots in Hillsborough. My dad at the university mall and my mom at Gibtown. Both received Pfizer so don’t think they’ll run out.

What do we think of the new strain? It has been spreading across the UK and is apparently in the US now. I read it could cause an uptick in cases. The vaccine protects against it but we can't vaccinate fast enough.

The UK variant is here. It supposedly accounts for just 1% of cases now, but if it follows the same path that it did in the U.K., it will double in prevalence each week, meaning it will be 30% of the cases in 5 weeks...over 60% in six weeks....etc. That's a big deal because it's more transmissible and we're not vaccinating people fast enough. Hopefully the latter will change in the coming weeks.

I'm a nurse who is working fulltime and jabbing in my spare time. Problem here: I can only volunteer for 11.5 hour shifts. I think this is a ridiculous demand and it reduces the amount of people willing to volunteer.
I can speak for AZ: there aren't enough volunteers to admin the vaccine. Every day there is an e-mail requesting additional vaccinators. I don't understand why the state won't employ LPN's or LVN's in addition to MD's, dentists, Vets and Rn's.

My parents said something about how our Texas governor is going to limit the number of vaccines that go to smaller hospitals (like us) and move to multi-county super sites. There is a sign up that opened up at 8:00am for a 2,000 dose "event" happening 2 counties over (that supposed to cover 6 counties.) Hopefully signup goes well - it's by phone.

Agreed, that is ridiculous. They could easily put teams of three together for three, four hour shifts for nurses. Especially nurses like you who are actively working. I wouldn't be able to do a 12 hour shift either...but no idea if they'll even call me.

Also agree that they should allow LPNs, MDs, Dentists and Veterinarians....anyone with that level of experience can give an IM injection. These are incredibly easy fixes.

What's the population of those 6 counties and is it reasonable in distance for people in those counties? I know a lot of people have been commenting about the elderly and technology issues with using a website format for signing up maybe the phone, even as overloaded as I'm sure it will be, is their solution to that?

Is TX using a hub and spoke process for distribution where there are multiple hubs in the state and the vaccine is distributed from each of these hubs to the surrounding areas?

Just heard a fascinating theory. Curious as to thoughts:

Make 10% of the vaccine supply available for out of pocket cost to whomever would pay. Give all the proceeds to small business relief.

If we were at the stage of general population maybe. But right now that would just mean another Haves and Haves not situation IMO. Those with more disposable income, regardless of their health risks to either contracting covid or from complication of it, could choose to get it. Our entire philosophy is that you cannot be turned away should you not be able to afford the admin fee. Monetizing would send a wrong signal to me at this time.
