Carsland Without EMH Plan

I'm still trying to decide on our strategy... It'll be just DS(16) & I, and we'll be at DCA on a morning where we won't have early entry but the rich folks livin' it up in the fancy places will. :thumbsup2 We know we want to ride it multiple times, and we have no problem doing the SR thing to achieve that. From what I've read the FP line is way off somewhere else from the actual ride.

Will the FP machines open the same time as regular rope drop? Should I send him for FP's while I try the wide-right thing and get in line for the ride and he joins me after getting the FP's? Or should we both go ride and then try and grab some FP's after that?

Any suggestions for a newb? :flower3: Thanks!

I would look around the area and wait for DS to get the FP's, then join the line together. People in line don't take kindly to other people try to catch up with members of their party in line. All it takes is it happening to you a couple of times to understand.

In all our many trips to WDW, I have never had issue with one person joining another person in line. It's the 12 people trying to join the one person already in line that makes me stabby.

^ this!! I'm sure the 1 FP runner could join their party in the RSR line. I'm guessing everyone will be in that same boat!

We are also staying offsite with no opportunities for EE to DCA.
Of the 3 mornings we will be there, 2 offer DCA EE (Friday & Sunday).
However, Saturday is the one morning we could use our MM for DLR.
BUT!!
Should we consider rope drop on Saturday at DCA the best opportunity to acquire RSR FPs? Then jump to DLR hoping we are still in the MM hour?
Yes, we REALLY want to ride RSR without the 75 minute wait. Would those of you that get to visit these parks regularly advise this newbie the RSR FP is (for lack of better term) more valuable than MM at DLR? (Hope this makes sense)

I would use your MM for DL and try and get a RSR FP on one of your other days. FP distribution continues for an hour and a half to 2 hours after park opening. You shouldn't have a problem getting one on any of those days.

Or you could use MM at DL and then hop over to DCA right before that opens too.

We did radiator racers this morning with no extra magic hour. We got to park 45 minutes before opening. Stood in line until they let us start getting fast passes at opening. Had time for 9:10 am with an 8:00 am park opening. Best plan is to arrive early I think. Worked for us!

I should clarify. It was an extra magic hour day but we were not extra magic hour guests.

This is really encouraging to read! A question though, just to clarify. Sorry if it sounds silly:
Do they have an RSR FP line set up before rope drop? So, they scan your tickets and let you through the "gates" up to a certain point? And a line forms for RSR FPs outside the rope drop area?

Yes, yes, and yes. The line is towards the left as you enter the park.

Please clarify for me as I haven't been to the park since BVS and CL opened:
When we enter the park, can we still go straight or do we need to turn right like we had to when BVS was blocked off? And, is this the "wide right technique some have spoken of? TIA!!

How long do you end up waiting in the actual RSR FP line (the rider queue before getting on the ride) with RSR fastpasses?

(Better wording?):
If I had fastpasses and got in the fastpass line for RSR, how long would it be before I was riding on it?

I posted elsewhere on the board, but I went to Carsland yesterday (Friday) around 3:00 PM and was surprised at just how manageable everything was. I was afraid that not having been there first thing in the morning I wouldn't be able to do anything, but the Junkyard Jamboree was a walk-on, the Luigi's tire ride only had a 20 minute wait, and while Radiator Springs had a standby time of 70 minutes, the Single Rider line was only 15 minutes!!

I have a few questions. What is the wide right technique? How do I find out which days during my stay at Grand Californian are early entry? (And what time?) What technique do you recommend for someone staying on site? We have a 6 year old who is looking forward to RSR.

Will be there the Monday through Thursday after Thanksgiving,

Thanks!

Those were some of my questions too.

We're also staying in GCH and so I'm wondering what's the best way to go about getting to RSR from there? Is the hotel's entrance better than the main entrance for this?

Also, like he asked, what is the "wide right technique" people keep mentioning?

And finally, it seems the FP line is a good 45 minute wait. Would it not maybe be better to just get in line right off the bat to ride the ride?

When we go we'll have 6 days in the park and so I'm hoping maybe using one of our weekdays will give us a better chance. We have a 6 and 7 year old who want to go on it almost as much as me! ;) :lmao:

Bumping this thread back to the top to see if anyone has any answers to the above questions. Also curious if anyone has flown into SNA and used Disney Resort Express to get to or from Grand Californian. Thanks!

The Wide Right Technique just means that you should try to stay to the right as much as possible while heading to Cars Land. As the crowd moves closer and closer to Radiator Springs Racers, Disney funnels the crowd down through various techniques. They basically force the line to the right in small increments until you enter the RSR queue in single file. If you stay as far to the right as possible through this procedure, you will be in the front. If you stay on the left, you will find yourself getting further behind. So stay as far right as you can.

The Early Entry Superthread is here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1675403&highlight=early+entry

The time of early entry depends on the hours the park is open when you are staying. The calendar at disneyland.com will have the hours of the park. It will be one hour before regular park entry if you have early entry that day.

If you are staying onsite and you have DCA early entry, the same thing applies. There are no FPs, so be at the gates early and stay wide right until you get to RSR. Have fun!
