Carousel of Progress

So should it be up and running anytime between August 24-31?? It's my favorite!!!

Please, oh please, oh please don't let them kill CoP for a Toy Story attraction. I love Toy Story and all, but CoP is an icon. Didn't they learn anything with from the Alien/Stitch conversion? :grouphug:

I just experinced the COP 4 days ago for my millionth(!) time...it looked freshly painted on the outside to me...and I think they put a new sign on the outside about 6 feet tall (i just dont remember that being there before & dated)....with the date "2005" on it.

It does need to be worked on a bit on the inside! It was packed with people went I went!

I wonder if anyone has a photo of the new sign? I'm very curious as to what it looks like.

Sorry didnt take a photo of it! The sign is the logo of the wheel with the cogs with the title and in the upper left hand corner of it 2005! As I said I really dont know if its new...however I dont recall it being there before at all. It did look new!

I hope it's not ever going to be closed "for good"!!! I can see maybe closing it during slower periods of the year. I know it was closed our first few trips (including my solo trips) but was open during our Thanksgiving/Dec trip... and was open our last June trip. But even Mid-June we walked on without a line and only one other family (about 6 other people) on with us at the time. :( I'm afraid if it's like that even in the summer that they will figure not enough people are going on it and might as well close it down. I hope not though! We love it.

The big purple cog with the date isn't new, it's been there for a few years now...As for the new paint job, I haven't noticed, and I'm there pretty much everyday, though they did recently replace the pre-show monitors. Actually, I think they're still in the process of replacing the monitors, the audio still doesn't work and the ones directly over the console tend to act up a bit lol...anyways, I haven't heard anything about CoP closing, hope it isn't true...can't imagine that it would be closing next month, haven't heard anything, though I have heard that Timekeeper may be closing permanently, the sign outside the attraction is gone, though it's still listed in the park map...anyways, if I hear anything I'll let you all know :)

Is this the 360 degree theater? What sort of Toy Story ride are the planning to open? I would love to see a TS ride, but I really don't want COP to close!

on our last trip this july3-13th every time i was in MK, i couldnt believe my eyes to see that COP actually had a line of people waiting to go in. there were many times as i was passing by that i also noticed many people leaving COP. it was great to see this happening. although i didnt get to go on COP this trip due to some rather uncharacteristic commando touring, it was a wonderful thing to see that still many people still love this attraction.

So, I finally had the chance to work CoP today...And I can confirm that it has been repainted recently :) Hopefully they really are working on improving and updating it :sunny:

We've been to WDW 4 times and are planning our 5th trip this September 18-24. I must admit we've never done the COP. Now you've peaked my curiosity about this attraction. :scratchin What exactly is it and does anyone know if it'll be running during our trip? I would like to see it at least once just in case the closing rumor is true.
Thanks

The Carousel of Progress was first introduced at the World's Fair in New York in 1965.
It is located in the MK by Buzz Lightyear and is only open "seasonally".
Here's a great website about it, http://www.carouselofprogress.com/main.htm
It really is a shame that it is not open more as it was one of Walt's favorites
and was one of his last projects before his passing.

Thanks minnie61650 I checked out your link. It looks interesting. We'll definitely stop by if it's open during our trip. My DH will enjoy most of all.
Thanks again

minnie61650 is right. It is Seasonal. I don't thimk they will ever get rid of it. They shouldn't!! It's one of Walt's favorite!

We sure love Carousel of Progress! It was open while we were there in late June, but was experiencing technical issues, so we had to leave. We never miss visiting it if it is open!

I see a few people posting that CoP is still seasonal...It's not, it's open year round now, so it should be open whenever you visit, anytime of day from park open to park close :earsboy: So make sure you stop by and see the show next time you visit the Magic Kingdom!!

Oh I hope you are correct! We have not seen COP since 1994. It was always one of my favorites and seeing it again this Sept. would be like seeing it for the first time again........like a re-birth!

I just checked WDW website and COP is no longer listed as a "Seasonal" so I guess Mickeyfer is correct. This is great news! :cool1: I was getting a bit worried. Also no mention of a September POC rehab pirate: so that rumour is false.
