Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

WOOHOO! My TA just emailed me back that she was able to get us in a pirate room for our November/December trip with our PIN. I'm so excited now!

Are all of the Martinique buildings considered to be "preferred rooms", or only 24, 25, and 26? I love the color scheme of Martinique, but I don't really want to shell out the extra money for a preferred room (after all, there are so many OTHER things to spend my money on at Disney ).

You sure got a misinformed cast member. The Nemo rooms have been done for quite awhile.

You have definitely been misinformed about the Nemo themed rooms! They've been open since, at least, last August because we stayed in one.:rotfl:

We've stayed in a standard location and a preferred location. Preferred locations are closer to the main pool/food court/store but, in all honesty, I wouldn't pay the extra money for a preferred location. The walks around the resort are so pretty that a walk from anywhere on the resort grounds is pleasant.

I may be wrong but I think all the pirate rooms are double beds. Like I said, though, I may be wrong on that.

Thank you guys! I am def not going to the preferred rooms but which is better? Pirate or Nemo rooms? I have seen very few pictures of each but it seems that the Pirate room is alot more decor than the Nemo rooms....what to do what to do!

Hi Nicki!

The Nemo rooms are all done. If you book a standard room that is what you will get. I would pay the extra to stay in a pirate room (once), but I don't think I'd ever pay for preferred, water view, or king. Both times we have stayed there we have booked standard and loved both locations and have always had an under 5 minute walk to OPR and a bus stop!

I know that Martinique Building 23 is not considered preferred. I think there are a couple more buildings in that section too. Each village is painted a different color and they are all beautiful to me. Honestly, I wouldn't put out the extra money for a preferred location. The only reason we stayed in a preferred location in 2008 was because that's all that was available.

Well, I think it all depends on who is traveling with you. I wish that the CBR had the pirate rooms a couple of years ago. My son, who's about to be 12, would have really enjoyed them then. I showed him pics of the rooms when they first opened and he said they were cool but he didn't really care if we booked one or not.

We stayed in a Nemo room this past August and he thought it was cool but, again, wasn't really excited about the room.....he was more excited about the whole resort.

How much is it? I was thinking just doing one little braid on the side, or behind my ear might be a fun way to get all "vacationy!" :cutie:

DH and I are planning on going back to the CBR in August for a long weekend...are the Nemo rooms available to book yet because the CM said they are not.

Would you rather a Nemo room, Pirate room, a king room, a standard room or a preferred room?
As you know, CBR has 6 villages. One village, Trinidad South, is or will be 100% made up of Pirate rooms. EVERY room in TS will be a Pirate room.

ALL of the rooms in the other 5 villages have been refurbished in a subtle Finding Nemo theme. This isn't a special theme separate from a standard theme ... this Finding Nemo motif is the standard at CBR now. It's very subtle ... just some Nemo characters on the wallpaper border along the top of the room and some Nemo characters on the bedspreads. That's it. Like I said, subtle.

So, just to make it clear ... if you are not paying extra for a Pirate room (which will be located in Trinidad South), then no matter what other type of room you book, it DEFINITELY WILL have the refurbished but very subtle Finding Nemo look to it. EVERY ROOM.

The Pirate rooms are anything but subtle. Even the carpet is themed, aimed at making the floor look like the wooden planking on an 18th century pirate ship. The walls, the headboards, the nightstands, the lamps, the other furniture, even the privacy curtain in the sink area, ALL of it is in an extreme, immersing Pirate theme.

That is why the Pirate theme rooms cost more per night than standard rooms.

As far as "preferred location" goes, keep in mind that the ONLY thing different about that room is its location relative to Old Port Royale. If you close the curtain and place the resort's general manager inside a room at CBR (as long as it isn't a Pirate room), the GM will have NO IDEA whether that room is a preferred location room, a water view room, a standard room, etc. This is because the interior of the room is no different from the interior of any other room.

If it was just my wife and me traveling, I'd probably pay extra for a room with a king size bed. Bigger bed and more "space" in the room (since there will be one big bed instead of two smaller beds, there will be more free space)sounds okay to me.

However, I'm a big fan of preferred location, as well. I like minimizing the walking, due to doing so much walking in the parks.

And one of the shortcomings, in my opinion, is that at CBR you can't book and pay for and guarantee a combination of upgrades (with an exception for the Pirate rooms). For example, you can't pay for and thus guarantee a king-size bed room in a preferred location building. If you want both, you'd have to decide which one you want more, and then reserve and pay for (and thus guarantee) that one; then make a REQUEST for the other amenity.

And just to review, there are 6 and exactly 6 preferred location buildings in CBR. They are half of the buildings in Martinique (24-25-26) and all of the buildings in Trinidad North (31-32-33).

2 weeks today and we arrive at CBR and Disney for our first ever trip as a family(last trip was in 82):cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Whenever s certain room type (or even an entire resort) doesn't show up on the website, it means that it isn't available for the dates you selected ... it's sold out.

Ignoring the pirate-theme rooms for a moment, CBR has 4 bookable room categories: preferred location, water view, king-size bed, and standard.

At CBR, "preferred location" has a very specific meaning: a room in one of the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale, the complex that has the main pool, food court, etc. These buildings are Trinidad North 31-32-33 and Martinique 24-25-26.

Water view is not the same as preferred location. Water view means a room with a view of the lake or of your village's quiet pool. There are water view rooms in each village. Water view has nothing to do with preferred location ... remember, preferred location has to do with proximity to OPR, and there are water view rooms scattered to all corners of the resort.

King-size bed is self-explanatory. They are not segregated in one area, they are sprinkled throughout the resort (except in Trinidad South ... Trinidad South is made up 100% of pirate-theme rooms, and no pirate-theme rooms have king-size beds).

So like I said, if the website doesn't have the option of booking a preferred location room, it means they are sold out for your dates.

I'm a few days late in replying, but thank you so much! That helps a lot.

For our 2007 stay at CBR I did not make a room request. We ended up very happy in our Ground floor Martinique room. Just asked my mother if she had a preference for ground floor again and she said yes. So now I have a few questions:

1. Do you think this is a popular request that we are likely to get?

2. I don't want a disabled equipped room (we didn't have one last time) are huge % of the ground floor rooms equipped this way?

3. Are there any differences that those of you that have stayed "up and down" at CBR noticed with the ground level rooms?

Thanks for responding to my "nit picking". Just trying to keep mom happy, though she really isn't high maintenance.

How much is it? I was thinking just doing one little braid on the side, or behind my ear might be a fun way to get all "vacationy!" :cutie:

I'm pretty certain it was around $2 - $2.50 per inch. Both my DDs got one done for a total of $60 and they both got beads at the end. It may have even been a little cheaper than that, they both got it on the top layer of hair about 2 inches from their foreheads and they ran about 11 to 13 inches each. If we do them this summer, we will go under near the ear, to hide it when school gets back in session. My youngest's wrap stayed in her hair until we cut it out on March 15th, it had been in since Dec. 8th, it lasted a long time; she took very good care of it as well though.

Oh wow, your girls must have long hair! Thanks for the info! I remember when we went to Barbados when I was in Elementary school, there were always ladies on the beaches who would do it, and I REALLY wanted to get it done, but mom and dad said no. :( So my inner childish wishes are coming through! :goodvibes But I'm not worried- it is Disney after all!

It's actually a very tiny percentage of rooms that are differently equipped.
3. Are there any differences that those of you that have stayed "up and down" at CBR noticed with the ground level rooms?
There are no differences in the interior from one room to another, except for king-size bed rooms, and there is only the one obvious difference. But otherwise ... 2nd floor, 1st floor, preferred location, water view, standard room, one village or another ... all rooms are identical on the inside.

3 weeks and 3 days until we are on our way!! First time in a moderate... can't wait!

We have booked two pirate rooms for July, and have requested they be connecting. Do they have a lot of connecting rooms at CBR? I know we will be in Trinidad South, just hoping we can get the connecting rooms.....

We are booked for the end of September @ Pop, but my BFF is thinking about going as well with her kids & mom. Her mom wants to stay @ CBR in a pirate room. If we decided to change our reservation & pay the extra $ for CBR, we won't be staying in a preferred room or a pirate room (our girls would rather have a Nemo room anyway). Would Jamaica be the closest standard section to the pirate rooms? How far away (walking distance) is Trinidad South? I've stayed at CBR before, but it has been many, many years. ;)

Thanks for the help:goodvibes

Yes, Jamaica is the closest "standard" section to Trinidad South.

We are staying at CBR in August, and we're so excited! I've read you can watch the Epcot fireworks from "the beach". Were exactly do we need to go for that?

TIA!

We always watch them from the Jamaica beach. But you can also see them from some of the other beaches, the bridge, and OPR! :goodvibes
