I'm still laughing about the squirrel thing....now that was funny!

Personally, I would sell the boat(s) and skidoos to go to Disney and buy new ones next year when your stock comes through.

What am I suppose to do when something breaks or something I do to save money and you turn it around like I'm bragging, its complaining about the upkeep on household stuff, what are you saying nobody has a hot tub? Most people do have a hot tub.

No actually alot of people do not own one. I used to live with a guy who did, and no one else in the area did. We had people coming over alot becuase they wanted to use it. My Bil has had two and sold both now over the past 8 years. They are just too much up keep for him. They are fun and nice to have, BUT it's not the norm to have.
As for your expensive neighbor hood. I just laugh when people say how much there house is. Different areas totally differe in house price. My house was dirt cheap. I mean really cheap for what we got. We owned the land, so no expense for that, but Our house would be 5-10 times more in different parts of the country and or Canada. With the land we have with the house, it would sky rocket even more. My friends condo in a not so desirabel spot in CA cost about 4 times what my house cost.
Also my dad snow plows. It's his only winter job. He doesn't make 100 for doing parking lots, so you getting some major cash for plowing!

I hope you can swing the money. I would personally forget about the whole time share thing. Do the 4/3 deal at a Moderate and get the dining plan. You can get that for under $3000 including your plane tickets..which I think you got already. you will only need money for fun extras then. And tips. I've priced it for March, which is busy season and when we typically go, and we could do the whole trip for under $3000 if we find the right airfare. Of course we don't buy a ton of stuff, and I try to collect gift cards when I have some extra cash as well. last year the only thing we paid out cash was tips for dining and DH went one day and did the Richard Petty experience on the spur of the moment. Going in Jan or Feb will be cheaper.

Nice to see someone get back to the topic. I don't think making fun of this person no matter what you personally think is totally unnecessary. She asked a question that for her was real and legitimate. I thought these boards were about supporting people's Disney dreams and desires. Let's keep the Disney spirit going and leave the non Disney behavior out. I know for some it's all in good fun but I really think that this person is genuine in asking for ideas and suggestions and has listened very openly.

I agree. I have to say, regardless of how odd OPs posts are for a Budget Board, he has handled the flamers and jokesters pretty well.

Thanks, for being on :cheer2:team nelson:cheer2:

I was doing well about 5 years ago, but now with all the prices going up and I havn't had a raise in 4 years I have had to pinch a few pennies to keep up a lifestyle that I have had for about 10 years now. I don't want to have to sell my home and mess up the kids mentally, I don't think it is a wise move to show your kids you are a failure, I want my kids to strive to be the best that they can be and not settle for a less than good life. This economy will pickup in a year or 2 and we will look back on these tuff times and laugh how we ate that extra box of mac & cheese or those imitation fruit loops to get by, but we shall grind away until that day and move forward not in reverse.

I agree, I've got thin skin, I would have already tucked my tail, taken my ball and gone home by now.:)

I realize your wife doesn't want to do things like yard sales but is she on board w/ coupons? I don't know if it offers stores in Canada - but thegrocerygame.com is a great place to learn how to shop using coupons & weekly sales. It's time consuming but the savings can be great. A few weeks ago I spent $94 on groceries (family of 5) but saved $124. Last week I spent $183 - needed to stock up on meats but still saved over $90 - not great but not too bad.

Me being a SAHM, I look at my job as being how much money I can save/stretch our dollars for my family.

HOWEVER, if your family broke the mold and had a yard sale you might realize how much the rest of the neighborhood might really appreciate it & start having them.

My FIL lives in a VERY nice area of Atlanta - $700,000+ homes, the HOA doesn't allow yard sales but they do have 1 huge community yard sale once a year - if you have things you want to sale then join in. This might be a good way to go about doing it in your area. Don't say, oh we need money but rather, "we have so much stuff, would any of you like to do a community yard sale just to get rid of things?"

Also, I had a gold party last month. I sold my old, kinked up gold & made $755 plus made 10% of total party gold (since I was hostess) I made $1450.00 total not too shabby for 3 hours of fun w/ friends.

I am confused. If you are having that hard of a time right now, why on earth are you trying to come up with $3000 for Disney? First you sound like you are bragging about what you have and then you are poor mouthing and saying you having tough times?? :confused3

BTW, doing what is necessary for survival is not showing your kids you are a failure. Its showing them to be responsible and to make the right choices at the right time. Its also showing them that money isn't everything, having expensive things and "the best" is not everything--being loved and happy and a family is. Not settling for less than the best does not always mean having the biggest and the best, sometimes it means just doing what makes you happy.

The good life is what you make out of it. Not what you spend. People on here who are telling you that you can stay on property with park hopper tickets for several days for less than 3000 are not kidding. I'm still not sure why you are in need of quite so much money. But an easy way to do this cheaply is to go for the 2 for 5 deal and stay at a Value resort for 7 days or even a moderate for the 3 for 4 deal. not using the Park hopper option would save even more. If you're willing to change your idea about what this trip could be I think you might be able to have an amazing trip for much much cheaper then you think.
We're staying at a moderate for 8 days. no expiration, park hopper and DDP for under 3000. So I know it can be done. Keep plugging away!

I'll be honest with you, I think this is the most disturbing thing I've read in this entire post. There's nothing wrong with striving for the best, but that doesn't mean that anything else is failure. A good life does not equate to a large amount of "stuff". My parents thought that a good life amounted to a large amount of "stuff". Fast forward 30 years and you will find a married couple in their 60's. One of them has been in a nursing home since he was 62 with Parkinsons & dementia, the other is living in an apartment wondering how long her $10,000 retirement savings will last. Do you think that all that "stuff" matters to them now? What they wouldn't do to have their health and financial security.

I grew up watching this train wreck in action, I knew fully what was happening because my brother and I often answered the phone when the bill collectors called. Did this show me how to be a failure? No, it showed me exactly what I DIDN'T want to have happen to me. My kids are learning that stuff is just that...stuff. Teach your kids to strive to do their best, to be responsible, and to learn from their mistakes. Don't live a lie for your kids, no matter how big the lie may be.

Lets break it down people.

plane tickets $1150
disney tickets $855
car rental not sure on price?
spending money?????
disney parking $98

We are at this $2103

What does a minivan go for for a week?
How much spending money do I need for food, tips and junk?
If I get some groceries for breakfasts and snacks how much do I spend for that $75?

I don't understand the bolded question??

Your food budget is going to depend on where you plan to eat. Are you still going on the cruise? Will those meals all be on the ship? During your days at Disney, do you plan to eat on property or off property? On property can be more expensive but much more convenient. If you eat on property, are you wanting table service meals or quick service meals?

Come on people - he's on another thread asking about buffets in Las Vegas. He's pulling your chains here! Or maybe he's going to try to win $3,000 in Vegas! Yeah, that's probably it.

OMG they could never do that. That would show his kids that he is a failure and it not sriving for the best!

I don't get it. I thought the plane tickets weren't in the equation? I thought you said you had that money already. So that price shouldn't be included. Also You will never be able to go all 8 days to Disney. If you are going to a time share, you will have at least half a day tied up in that. So skip it. Make it 4-6 days at Disney.
For car rental, go to priceline and name your own price and see if they except.

I second thegrocerygame, you can really save alot and it isn't as time consuming as doing it all yourself.
i have gone to yardsales in very expensive neighborhoods and they do very well. I overheard the lady say she had already made $1,000 and it wasn't even noon.
I don't thing the timeshare is a good idea, they can be so pushy and make it an orderal instead of a deal.
We have a place in our mall where you do surveys and you get paid. My son got $80 for one he did, most of the time it is just $5 but you never know and it only takes a few minutes. I think it is called opinions.
We all do things for our children that are above and beyond so keep trying. Good Luck!!!!!!!

That is a good idea to go to priceline, I didn't know you could get car rentals on there I thought it was just hotels.:woohoo:

Anyone else find it strange that Nelson84 started out on the DIS in 2006 as a woman, talking about her husband and scrapbooking, and then sometime along the way, became the husband?

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?p=15213774#post15213774

I was just watching our vacation video from Feb 2001. My husband used to videotape everything! He taped the whole ride and I thought it was pretty cheesey then...I was almost embarassed when I watched it today. I'm glad they replaced it.
