I am currently using a Canon Powershot SX100 IS that I have had for about 4 years. I have taken thousands of pictures with it and have been pleased overall with it. My most common complaint has been when using the flash that it is slow to be ready to take the next flash picture. Would also like a camera that would take better pictures in lower light settings without a flash. I mostly use my camera for vacations, birthdays, and kids' activities (soccer, dance, baseball, drama plays) and usually use auto settings.
I am looking for a new camera and have been trying to do some comparisons. My budget is up to $300 and I really prefer cameras that use AA batteries.
I have tentatively narrowed down my choices to the Cannon SX150 which is just a progressively updated version of what I have or the Nikon L810. I am kind of at a loss when it comes to the technical numbers. I have read that just because it has a higher Megapixel number doesnt / zoom number doesn't necessarily make it better.
Would love opinions on these cameras for either someone who has one or the other and likes/dislikes it and or opinions from camera savvy people who can interpret comparative info better than me.
I would also take suggestions for similar cameras that you might recommend.
On the flip, if these cameras or others in the same range are not going to make that much difference in my picture quality, let me know that too. I may just be wanting a new toy, but might not actually need one.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have to offer.
