Hello all. We've never been since this year is our first Holiday trip.

My question is will you bring a 1 yr old to this?

My 5 yr old is sensitive to loud sounds so I am thinking of bringing him and a headphone that will minimize the sound. But I am worried it might be cold for my 1 yr old.

Also, how long does is usually runs?

I wouldn't bring a 1 year old unless a) the child was sleeping or, 2) I sat at the end of a row so I could leave with the child if he/she started getting fussy. When I've gone it has not been too cold out. We've always gone the weekend after Thanksgiving. The night time temps may be cooler the further into the show's run you go.

Seems to me the show runs an hour. Maybe a little more???

I don't have small children, so I don't have experience bringing a 1 year old to this event, but there are certainly small children in attendance. I guess it depends on how you think your own kids would tolerate sitting in a crowded musical event. As an adult, this is a "don't miss" event for my family! Beautiful music with chorus and orchestra, and a moving narration for those who celebrate Christmas. The show runs about an hour and the line begins to form for entry more than an hour in advance, so you'll need to plan for that unless you reserve the dinner package. In that case, you will have a reserved seating area and will be escorted into a different line when you finish your meal.

The package doesn't mean no waiting. they recommend that you be in the package line 45 minutes before showtime. This line is let into the theater 30 minutes before showtime. Then the general public (non-package) is admitted. If you have the package but you're not in line before the general public goes in, you may not get a seat.

Guests holding dinner package tickets are guaranteed seats even if their arrival is well into the performance. Seats are withheld from general admission for every package sold. That being said, if you arrive late, your seat may not be the best, but it will be a seat. Those at the head of the dinner package line will get first choise of available seats. IMHO, the best seats, for listening pleasure, are the ones in the middle of the theater towards the back. :thumbsup2

Seats aren't guaranteed for dinner package ticket holders. As previously mentioned, they are let in first, and then the standby line is admitted. I've often observed that a section may be kept roped off, presumably for dinner package ticket holders, until just before the show starts. Then it is opened up and anyone can sit there. If you arrive late, even with a dinner package ticket, you may very well find that there are no seats if this is a crowded show.

It is sort of like a Church service. If your kid can sit through a 45 min church service , than go for it.If not, you might want to wait.We have seen plenty of little ones there, many do fine . There are also quite a few that the parents do have to get up and leave if the child starts to get antsy.

Ok - thanks! Then it might not be worth it to get the dining package this time.

I've taken both my kids since they were under one. They usually fall asleep. LOL Even to this day. Last December they were 5 and 3, and were out by the second song.

The show lasts 45 mins to an hour. Usually not quite an hour. Always depends on how long the narrator pauses for dramatic effect during the readings, and how fast they speak.

And pp are correct about the seating. It is not a separate reserved section. The package line is let in before the general standby line. Even people with packages are lined up about an hour before the show starts. I remember one year already being in line for the 8:15 show when the 6:45 show was just starting. Crazy. That has only happened once, thank goodness.

Usually we'll leave dinner, check out the line situation, and when I start to see people line up, I go get in line.

Not trying to be argumentative but seats are held back for late ticket holders. Your observations about rope movement are correct but there is a juggling act going on. As a CM who has worked this show for 7 years I have escorted late ticket holders to seat even during Christmas week.

If I had a one-year-old and a five-year old who couldn't tolerate loud noises, I probably wouldn't buy the package with guaranteed seating. I'd listen and watch for a while from behind the fence and then leave as soon as the kids started getting antsy.

I don't know if this was in response to my post or not. But all I was trying to say is that there isn't a section that is technically reserved for the package holders when they are initially let in. It's a free for all for the rope drop, yes? It always has been when I've been there.

What you're saying totally makes sense, and I'm glad they do this. Where is the section they hold aside for latecomers?

From what I remember- you can still see the show even without being in an actual seat!?

I think we got a funnel cake and stood at the back and watched some of the show.

Anyone else??

Amyb, rope movements are countrolled, safety first always. Held back seats are usually scattered during a full house .Radio Communications beetween CMs keep seating process smooth. Snafoos do occasional ly occur but considering the large numbers of guests moved in and out of the theater in a short time it sometimes amazes me how well it goes. Of course our guests make it easy because they are in a great mood excited to see a great show.
