I'll be seeing NPH this year. Have a dining package. There will be 4 of us. We don't have to be front and center. How early should we get in line before they stop the package seating?

They don't exactly stop seating for dining packages, but at a certain point they will open up seating to the standby line. I think 30-45 minutes is enough time if you don't care where you sit & you just want to make sure you get in before they start loading the standby line. Online you'll see people saying 45-60 minutes early for NPH. He is probably the most popular narrator so don't panic if you stroll by 3 hours before showtime & see a huge line. I think they start loading the theatre with the standby line around 15 minutes before showtime (but someone correct me if that's wrong) so be there before that. I think they also tell you a time to arrive when you have dinner/whatever meal you're doing, but I can't remember. The dining package guarantees you a spot so don't be late, but it's not necessary to be super early just to get your spot. Now, if you care about being in front, I'm sure there will be people in the CP dining package line 2+ hours early. I won't be one of them, haha, but people absolutely do it.

Two years ago, we did the dining package for Jodi Benson and they never did open the reserved dining package seating to standby. The dining packages evidently didn't sell out because there were completely empty rows in the reserved area. For that show, we wandered in 10 minutes before the show and easily got a great seat.

Last year, we did the package for NPH and got in line 1 hour before the show (I knew it was sold out). The line looked crazy long but we got front row seats once we got in. Dining package people were wandering in 15 minutes prior (I was nosy and watching) and it was packed - they did not appear to allow any standby in the reserved section but not sure they could have found a seat even if they did.

I have no idea why they open to standby sometimes and other times, let entire rows go empty while people wait in line.

You are correct in my opinion-because had you not pointed that I out I would not have known it was my opinion nor would anyone have been smart enough to know it's my opinion. It's pretty obvious we all have one-mine just happens to be different than yours. And that's o.k.

Attended NPH's last show last year (party of 3) and got in line 20-25 min ahead. Line at that point was all the way back into the Morocco pavilion. Once seating opened the line moved quickly and we found seats with no problem. They were toward the back and off to the right but still lovely. I don't believe they ever opened it to stand-by or if they did it was very limited.

Thanks for the info. I think we'll do the 30 minutes before time to arrive. I don't need to be up front. Last time I went (many years ago), I saw Gary Sinise. He was really good. I enjoyed his reading. My friends are really looking forward to seeing NPH.
