Cancel trip because of rising COVID rates?

27 days and counting.... I am flying out of PHL also and as of now, going. I haven't gone anywhere since Jan (cruise) and have had 6 cruises cancelled. Try and stop me hahaha. But, Im ok w everyone else cancelling Dec 12th week lmao :fish:

so with this logic - my risk of catching COVID is just as high in every day activities such as the grocery store or my kid going to school?
If I come into contact with someone in target where they do not enforce masking then my risk is higher vs a place like WDW where things are being kept more consistently cleaned and policed.
Exactly.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to set up a waitlist for this. I was in a BWV G/P view and waitlisted a Boardwalk view for the second week in Dec, and it came through last week. So, there are people cancelling and moving around.
Good luck!!! :shamrock:
I actually have two waitlists running. We're at AK Kidani for five days, Saratoga for nine, and Beach Club for four. I have the first half and last half of the nine day Saratoga stay covered with the hopes we can move at least some of that stay over to Boardwalk

Have a trip booked 12/24-12/31 and are sadly going to cancel :( We booked it thinking the number of cases would have improved. We have Southwest flights and with them now no longer keeping the middle seat open, and Disney increasing capacity we have just decided to wait until summer.
My main worry is someone in our little family of 5 catching Covid and then being sick at Disney, especially since we'd be there without a car. This was going to be a surprise Christmas trip for our kids after our April trip was canceled, and I'm very disappointed to not have that surprise for them... also, now I have to think of gift ideas lol

We have talked it to death, but once we made the decision to cancel I actually felt a little relieved! But to each their own, and whatever works for your family! This really is a such a luxury problem though, isn't it? My DH and I get in this analysis paralysis of "what's the right decision" but at the end of the day it's just a vacation and we're fortunate to even be able to have this dilemma lol. It's a lot of money though so of course I completely understand wanting to be sure of it! If you decide to go, have a great time, and if you postpone, that's just more time to plan and get excited :)

I wouldn't fly right now just because of all the news reports about the importance of ventilation. But that's the same reason as my nervousness over hotels.

We are traveling the first week of December as well. I’m a teacher (online only), but my son is in person. He’s in a class of 22 and while he wears a mask all day they are in close quarters. I did purchase his teacher a medical grade filter for her room. I have one as well. Our state just surpassed one million cases. I haven’t done anything since March and really stay in a bubble. We are going to self isolate the week of Thanksgiving and the day before we leave.

I am a little nervous, but after reading everything about the airlines and then about Disney itself it is safer than being at school right now. We will stay in the Disney bubble while there and follow all the protocols. I mean I get hugged, sneezed on, and coughed anytime I enter a classroom (we have positive cases too). At least at Disney I know it won’t be as bad. I also started taking Airborne and Vitamin D supplements. Better than nothing.

Being sick at Disney is not fun. January this year my husband and I each got the flu early in our trip. Except for the car ride to urgent care we were in our room the whole trip (10 days) until leaving.

The urgent care center picked us up, took us to Walgreens and then back to our resort. While it was convenient it is something I would not like to repeat.

JFox, that is horrible, I'm so sorry you had to spend the whole trip in your room. We've had an experience like that before too with our kids. On a Thanksgiving trip one year our youngest got an upper respiratory infection, then the middle kiddo got pink eye :scared: It was awful! We usually stay on our points in a villa but this trip we had booked a room at CBR because the room was "just for sleeping" and we had planned to spend all day at the park, well that didn't work out lol! Being crammed into a room with contagious people was not fun! Luckily we lived in Georgia at the time and cut our trip short and drove home. We're on the West Coast now so leaving early isn't as easy.

Hi everyone--hope you're all staying positive (and testing negative!)

My husband and I have a WDW trip planned for the first week of December, but with COVID rates rising so quickly, we're thinking of canceling. Is anyone else considering the same? I'd love to know where your thoughts are!

I think I'm a little more nervous than when I booked our trip, not only because rates are booming, but because we've been especially battered around the last month (us and the rest of the world!). We actually just recovered from having COVID ourselves (my husband caught it from work--funny that it only happened now, after being an essential worker all year in NYC!) We're really grateful that we both had mild cases and knew about the exposure immediately, so could fully quarantine without inadvertently spreading it to others. I just don't know if going to Disney right now is a "dumb idea," but also my God, we could really use a dose of hope and magic in our lives.
There’s a lot still unknown about COVID but most studies point to having anti bodies for at least several months and you’d be immune from COVID during that time. Assuming the above is true if you’ve already got COVID and recovered what would you be nervous of? I’d honestly feel better about going if I already recovered.

We are going on Nov 28-12/8. What initially started as our annual Xmas trip to visit California relatives & Disneyland turned into a quick visit to CA to hopefully catch a glimpse of our family through their house windows and an inaugural trip to experience the holidays at WDW.

And just today, our trip has morphed into a 100% inaugural Christmas WDW vacation. The only things that would turn it into a 100% staycation are —> 1. Disney closes again ***quickly knocks on every wood surface in my house and surrounding suburbs** 2. Travel restrictions in either our home state or Florida

We were just at GF in October and didn’t have any concerns with Disney or travel.

If anyone feels worried or anxious about their trip, they should cancel.
To me, it's just not worth the stress of waiting and anticipating if it will be okay or not, especially as covid numbers continue to go up in many places.

Honestly if I'd just had it so recently and was planning to go just a couple of weeks from now, then I'd go, as long as I was testing negative. I say that as someone who has no intention of going until there is a vaccine... but if I'd JUST had and cleared it? Game on.

Keep cancelling people! And not because we are there the third week of December or anything. :teeth:

I feel the exact same way. I keep looking at all the people questioning whether or not they want to go, and shake my head. Please, by all means, cancel. I have no problem walking on rides for two weeks. Maybe some more great ADR's will open up.

We are not going to cancel and did not consider it. That being said, we are not high risk, in good physical shape and our family understands that our exposure could impact them so they have decided to stay away for a couple of weeks once we get back.

I have said the same repeatedly. Our children are 6 and 8. My wife and I are 36 and 41, we eat well, work out daily, have never smoked, and have no underlying conditions. I'm usually more worried about food poisoning at Chef Mickey's than I am about COVID on this trip.

This is how I felt, and why we went in September, and all was fine. Thankfully. But a not high risk, marathon runner friend in his mid 40's is SO sick with this right now, including a pulmonary embolism and horrific pneumonia that the Dr's think will take 6 months to fully recover from, that I'm now grounding our whole family and cancelling a February trip. As many have said, it's all about your personal risk tolerance. Seeing what this family is going through has changed our personal perspectives on the potential trade-offs of doing anything unnecessary.

I would love to know if the people saying “go!” are telling their families, neighbors, friends, work, etc. they’re going to WDW. And what feedback they’ve received. Feeling safe doesn’t mean it’s safe. We encounter thousands of people a day at WDW. We’re all using the same resources. With 1 in 378 testing positive, this means people with the virus will absolutely be at WDW. Part of the reason we have uncontrolled spread is because of lack of tracing; people aren’t being honest about where they’ve been/who they’ve been around.

We have nonrefundable Christmas plans and feel guilt and doubt over going. But we’re also young and healthy and plan to quarantine upon return and get tested just like we did on a previous trip. If we didn’t have the ability to do that we wouldn’t be going. But if be lying if I said I know for certain it’s completely safe.

I have told people and they are excited for us. The positivity rate In Florida is way less than where we live. We tell people we are escaping. Ha!

Right but WDW isn’t just people from Florida, it’s people heading there from hotspots like (what sounds like) your location.

I’ve encountered people jealous we’re going to WDW and people who think we’re nuts so :confused3

For right now... we are not cancelling either. We are going the week before Christmas. We are also in Philly. We decided to rent a car and drive. We've done the drive many times and have regular places we trust to stop (plus lots of hand sanitizer, spray and wipes). I think at this point, my three teenagers doing online middle and high school need a major break. They haven't seen their friends and are starting to get the blues. We decided if the lines were too long, we'd still be happy walking all over the world. A friend of mine just returned and she said the precautions Disney has been taking were above and beyond. When I go to the grocery store, there's lots of nose peakers. I think social distancing, washing hands and wearing a mask helps.

Our trip Nov 6-10 was the first trip that I have posted on social media about. I kept the other 2 quiet for fear of travel shaming. I was surprised but did not receive any negative feedback. I have some friends who are probably quite upset but they haven't said anything to me. I would be lying if I said I wasn't apprehensive about what people would say to me. My family has known about every trip. I stay away from my elderly parents after we get home until I know it is safe but our families are very supportive of our trips.

Nothing is completely safe. Going to Costco and the grocery store to shop for Thanksgiving groceries runs the same risk. People have to decide for themselves what feels best.

I totally understand wanting a vacation, and I truly wish we could do some soon however it isn't in the cards for us until summer time (fingers crossed, and it won't be WDW).
