We are considering puchasing an AP if AP rates are offered during our late Feb. peak season trip if the math works, we only plan one trip this year so the AP would only help us with room discounts. I understand we only need one person to have an AP and we need to show the voucher when we check in.

If we make a reservation for an AP room rate and decide to change it later for a discount pkg. or a room only code (if offered)can we easily do so? In general are AP discounts the best offered for rooms? Have AP discounts been offered before in peak season (going the week after Pres.. week). Any other AP advice?

TIA

If you are purchasing the AP because of room discounts I suggest a different method.

Room discounts are never guaranteed with the AP. If you have AAA you can get a discount.

The true beauty of an AP is you save so much on park admission.

There is nothing urgent about buying the park admission passes. I would wait and see if AP room only rates come out for your stay. If the discount room rates come out, then decide whether the AP is the way to go. If the AP rate isn't offered, then get the park passes for your situation. The AP room discount is normally about 40% off rack room rate. If WDW is going to raise the cost of park admission, then you can figure that into your situation.

I currently have a ressie at BWI (standard room) with the 10% AAA discount. I guess the AP only makes sense if we get the 40% room discount. I am waiting to see, just getting anxious as I read another post this morning that mentioned last year AP rates came out Oct. 28 last year so I'm trying to be prepared.

Keep one thing in mind. What has happened historically at Disney (ie last year or the year before) has little to no relevance on what will happen this year. Disney does what they want when they want to do it. They do not operate on a fixed schedule where rates are always released on this day, price increases happen on that day, etc.

It's entirely possible that the way they have been releasing AP rates this year, you may not see anthing until December if they even release any for February at all.

My advice would be don't sweat the stuff over which you have no control. Keep reading the boards and you'll know when (if?) the rates get released. Then you can worry about it getting the rate and buying an AP. ;)

I agree with safetymom.

I figure that over this past year our family will have used each AP about 30 times per person for admission to the parks (over 3 visits to FL). What a bargain compared to the cost of a daily pass!

The discounts on the rooms are merely icing on the cake.

Now, that is not to say that I am not hoping for an AP discount for our trip in February. Quite the contrary. :smooth:
