Can we keep this Secret!? Its Gonna Get Crowded!

I don't understand why they keep referring to it as a secret? Who was ever keeping it a secret?

for years some of the folks here didn't seem to realize that DVC was selling.

heck saw in 1991 on the Disney magazine and brought in 1993 (almost brought in 1992). So to me their advertising was working. but there were alot of DVC members now - who were surprised in DVC. Say they never saw those ads on TV or the sales things in all the parks, resorts plus DD.

I never felt DVC was high pressure. I toured the Westgate Lakes resort in Orlando a few years ago and that was very high pressure. When we told the salesman that we were not interested he told us you probably can't afford it and that is why you are not buying. I like to do my research before making a big purchase. I am so glad I didn't buy Westgate.
Westgate to DVC, that's about as large a difference as you can get in the US.

Not sure if this applies, but we vacationed over New Years, and I know we should know better, but have done so in the past and although very crowded was still able to get into the parks since we were staying on property. However this time we were told to be sure we got into a park before 11:00 and to stay there because the parks would start closing when capacity was reached and we would not be able to get back in. We are not used to having to arrive early and stay in the same park all day till closing.....was not happy about the over selling of tickets. It seems to me that if you're staying on property and have a park hopper, you should be able to use it for that purpose:sad2: It made our vacation a lot more stressful than it needed to be......:scared:

I'm not sure what you mean by the "overselling of tickets?" Anyone can buy a WDW park ticket at any time. For instance, 50,000 tickets could be sold online today, and tomorrow, and the next day, and so on. there are no restrictions on when they can use them until a park reaches capacity...unless you think that holidays should require a special private ticket, like the Christmas Parties and Halloween Parties, where only people with tickets for THAT day can enter the park. Otherwise, all onsite guarantees is admission to A park, not necessarily the park of your choice.

Does Westgate go after you with the sales pitch if you stay in one of their properties paying cash? :scared1:

They go after those who are on cash and exchangers the more aggressively. They will hound you until you tour then hound you until you buy. Spinnaker is the other US company that seems close from what I've heard.

When we bought DVC, we didn't know what it was. I always saw the booths and wondered what they we never but never stopped. On a cruise, we decided to stop by and ask and was told to go to the info session. We went and it was very low pressure, no sales, just informational. We made a private appointment with the guide, and again, no pressure. Matter of fact, I put a lot of pressure on him with questions, which he handled gracefully. That was a BIG reason why we bought. I felt like Disney didn't have to resort to high pressure sales, so they must have a great product. I also knew that I had a cooling period according to Florida law, so I could do more research when I got home.

With all that said, I think Disney could do a little better in their advertising, just letting people know what DVC is. But, I do not think they should change any of their sales methods once people come in to hear the pitch.

Also, I for one want Disney to be succcessful and sale a lot of DVC contracts. That means more resorts in the future and more options for all of us! :goodvibes

Exactly on both counts. As I noted, DVC has already cost us the 3 off property resort options I mentioned above due to their poor performance in advertising and sales.
